An Evening With Cary Elwes

[:

[00:00:05] Chris: All of it felt like, I felt like all the exposition was very, very tight. Well done. Does

[:

[00:00:14] Sherry: That's like Ricky Bobby, he's covering his base. Yeah, same with Tom Cruise, you know.

[:

[00:00:20] James: Go ahead and say it, Bill, when she's loud and proud. Put it in the trailer.

[:

[00:00:30] Chris: Yeah, I like the setup of the movie a lot.

[:

[00:00:38] James: That's a, that's an emotional swing for 24, 48 hours.

[:

[00:00:59] Phil: They [00:01:00] did a screening of The Prince's Bride over there in Dallas, which was enough to draw us over there, take something special to get us over to Dallas. But we went over there to watch the movie and then Cary Elwes, the man in black, Wesley, came out and did a Q& A and then talked about the movie and some of the things that we may or may not have known.

[:

[00:01:37] Phil: And then the second episode will be the Princess Bride. Okay. So thoughts, comments, anything you want to kick off? It was much better than John Cusack. Yeah, I was

[:

[00:01:48] Phil: I'm not saying John

[:

[00:01:55] Chris: But again, and I think we talked about it a little bit. They picked, uh, 16 candles [00:02:00] for John Cusack. And he's in that, you know, he's a minor character in that movie. Not in it a whole lot. Had they picked a movie that he was like the star of, right? I think it would have been probably more enjoyable for him to, you know, for one, for him to, you know, talk about more.

[:

[00:02:20] James: slightly different experiences there. But the way, the way that even the q and a part of it, for Kerry Elwes, it was about the Princess Bride.

[:

[00:02:38] Phil: Yeah. And we talked about that at 18

[:

[00:02:42] Phil: yeah, yeah. This, we talk about that more. It was much better.

[:

[00:02:54] Chris: way too long. Yeah. Well, and to your point, Janet, about the, the questions not being about 16 candles. Well, there's only when he [00:03:00] is in it for so little time. Mm-Hmm.

[:

[00:03:08] Phil: yeah,

[:

[00:03:09] Phil: Uh, no. Yeah. So this format was. You could write questions out on a card prior to and then the moderator or whoever picked vet them and that vetted the questions and asked Are you sure

[:

[00:03:27] James: Yeah, no, you know there were questions in there that weren't and they weren't [00:03:30] I severe questions that It wasn't about Princess Bride.

[:

[00:03:39] Phil: would have been very interested to know with something like the Princess Bride. And we'll certainly talk about this when we do the review. There is such a deep love, a deep love for this movie and such a fan base.

[:

[00:03:59] Sherry: the [00:04:00] question that I wanted to ask?

[:

[00:04:01] Sherry: Yeah. And And you wouldn't let me I Just said you could but I had just watched because I had never watched what was the name of that movie the crush Russia And I didn't realize he showed his little tushy in that movie And I wanted to know if that was really him or he had a stunt double

[:

[00:04:21] Sherry: and come to find out someone who went to the

[:

[00:04:25] Sherry: matinee show And the, they did the [00:04:30] meet and greet afterwards,

[:

[00:04:35] Sherry: but she did ask that question and he was, he said, she said, he looked around and he was like, well, he said, yes, that was me.

[:

[00:04:45] Chris: Yeah. She asked during the Q& A, anything like we had, or she asked during the VIP part? I think

[:

[00:04:53] Chris: Because they So shook his hand and went, Hey, was that your ass? That I just saw on

[:

[00:05:01] Phil: asked that question face to face.

[:

[00:05:23] Phil: Yeah. I don't remember anything. I don't know how much it would've cost or whether I would've done it, but,

[:

[00:05:33] James: that's why he was really doing all this is he's selling that book that he wrote about his stories. Yeah,

[:

[00:05:41] Sherry: And didn't he have a new movie coming out too?

[:

[00:05:54] Phil: Richie, oh yeah. I said Henry Caldwell,

[:

[00:05:58] Chris: Like he's the, kinda the [00:06:00] leader, not the leader of the group, but like the boss that they have to answer to. But yeah, Henry Caldwell's in it, and then Alan Richardson, the guy that plays Reacher on Amazon. Mm hmm. Oh yeah. Kills people like Reacher, but his, his whole persona is very much not like Reacher, so it's a lot of fun.

[:

[00:06:15] Phil: but yeah,

[:

[00:06:16] Phil: Yeah, and I think, I don't, well, I think when you're handling the talent, you want to be respectful of their time, right? So I think that's, I think that's part of the reason they did the write in questions, and that they wanted people to sort of usher [00:06:30] out, to sort of, you know, Respect Cary Ellis time.

[:

[00:06:40] Phil: Was it at the same theater? No, it was at Will Rogers. Yeah, yeah, Will Rogers, that's right.

[:

[00:06:47] Chris: Yeah, cause, cause, well. Take note, Will Rogers event people. No,

[:

[00:07:06] James: Right. The guy that was on stage moderating this whole thing was, he kept it on track. Yeah, yeah.

[:

[00:07:22] Sherry: know someone who went to the one at one and I said, Did he talk about this?

[:

[00:07:44] Chris: it's like if these are the the the stories he decides to tell like right I mean just because one group heard it.

[:

[00:07:56] Phil: So yeah,

[:

[00:08:04] Chris: You get the extra,

[:

[00:08:06] Chris: and you get to ask, you know, questions. Was that your ass or not?

[:

[00:08:26] Phil: Cary Elwes, because, you know, we've talked about [00:08:30] this on the road ride home and, and we'll talk about it certainly in the movie, but like, just to see, like, if he just stood there on stage for an hour and a half, just to see Cary Elwes, knowing that's the man in black to me, because this movie, like, you know, we talked about Lebowski, I love Lebowski, but I have probably seen Bride more and I've seen Lebowski hundreds of times.

[:

[00:09:01] Chris: you know, or yeah, I think it's the same feel like just even if you don't get to talk to them, like, like you go to the, the Dallas fan expos and comic cons and stuff, right?

[:

[00:09:21] Chris: Mm-Hmm. , your, your hero or whatever people that you really admire. Just seeing them in person, in the flesh, not on a, a screen. That's really, really cool.

[:

[00:09:34] Chris: Right.

[:

[00:09:43] James: Right. , you know, the, the weirdest part, sorry. The weirdest part was him. The moderator's name was James. Yeah. So every time Cary Elwes was talking, he's like, Well, you see, James? Blah, I'm like, He's talking to me! Just close my eyes, he's right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah,

[:

[00:10:01] Chris: Yeah, he's not. He's

[:

[00:10:03] Chris: But I thought even that was kind of cool, I thought. I'm glad you reminded me of that. Like, he, yes, he's talking to the audience, and those are the people that paid to be there. But there's this moderator named James sitting right next to him. So I felt even that was cool and respectful of you.

[:

[00:10:31] Chris: You know what I mean? Right. He included them in the conversation, I guess, which I thought was cool. Mm hmm.

[:

[00:10:38] Chris: there's Here we go, now the negative.

[:

[00:10:46] Chris: it's going to ruin

[:

[00:10:47] Phil: That's what I'm saying. Not that Cusack was a dick. I respect it. Cause he's very cerebral. I was, he's more cerebral than I would have anticipated. Cusack.

[:

[00:11:02] Chris: I just, I've actually felt bad for him cause, you know, 18 proposals and all this stupid crap and like, and he took it like a champ, but

[:

[00:11:13] Phil: well, he was, he was probably, you know, they, they proposed this to him. He said, yeah, and then immediately afterwards, yeah.

[:

[00:11:23] James: Dallas and doing more of them. So

[:

[00:11:27] James: Maybe those, but

[:

[00:11:46] Phil: And so the, the illusion was preserved. Now he's probably like that in real life. If you met him in the grocery store, he'd probably be very friendly, but I didn't, I, the risk of that not happening was eliminated, which I appreciate.

[:

[00:12:04] Sherry: And, you know, cause he heard some lady when he didn't realize the princess bride had gotten as big as it was or whatever. And the woman said, as you wish to him, but I heard another cup of coffee. Right. And I heard another lady say one time that he was coming for some event and she was whatever, setting it up or whatever.

[:

[00:12:39] Phil: Wallace Shawn. He apparently did not like Inconceivable.

[:

[00:12:52] Phil: you know. Yeah, to me, I love Mandy Patinkin as Inigo. And I pretty much love everything he's been in. Alien Nation, [00:13:00] man. Alien. Yeah. But he also does like theater and I think Mandy is, I'm an actor, I'm an actor, you know, and, and, well, I think he probably appreciates the fan base.

[:

[00:13:23] Chris: Yeah, and I just, I think he probably just doesn't put as much talk, almost like when you were talking about this, like Harrison Ford, I feel like it's probably [00:13:30] very similar in the same thing, as far as, as he's gotten older, I feel like he's shown more appreciation for it, right?

[:

[00:13:50] Chris: He's like, well, obviously me. And then went on, you know what I mean? Listen to him on Conan.

[:

[00:14:02] Chris: thing.

[:

[00:14:04] Chris: you said, Conan needs a friend. Yeah, Conan needs a friend. Yeah. Like he, if this is the one I saw, like he was interviewing him and he said, I see there in your notes that you have Harrison Ford.

[:

[00:14:17] Phil: think he

[:

[00:14:18] Phil: fun with Conan for sure, but he seems like a Serbic and

[:

[00:14:32] Sherry: And he said, he's. He loves to talk to people. He said, it's happened to where people are going, okay, well, I got to go now, you know, because he will talk.

[:

[00:14:43] Phil: So I think if you met Carrie, I think he would be cordial, even if he,

[:

[00:14:54] Chris: So it depends, you know If you catch one a bad time or they're trying to eat and they don't want to be bothered, right? Like it's [00:15:00] and I know it's a your celebrity. So that's part of you get paid millions of dollars That's part of it, right? But it's sure till you've been in those shoes, right? It's got to be yeah You got to get tired of hearing It's like, you know, every day somebody people you see and they want you to just say your famous line or whatever you're known for like, yeah, that's got to get, that's got to air on you, you know,

[:

[00:15:25] James: Yeah. When do they get to be normal? When they're off the clock, that's when I wouldn't want to [00:15:30] approach them. Private dinners, family functions. You see them out there celebrating a birthday at a restaurant. Leave them alone. You're

[:

[00:15:39] Phil: Yeah, right.

[:

[00:15:50] Sherry: Let me, let me tell you, this is, he's a local celebrity. I guess you'd call him when we went to see Lindsay Buckingham at the same place.

[:

[00:16:22] Sherry: And so he, he knew I recognized him and didn't bother me and didn't bother him. But

[:

[00:16:28] Sherry: it was enough. [00:16:30] Cause I was like, I mean, I

[:

[00:16:43] James: Otherwise, if you just say, hi, hi, love you, love you. He's going to embrace, you know, that moment and then move on. He's not going to remember you. You smiled at that guy, he um, it was a moment, and now it's done. It's done.

[:

[00:16:59] Phil: He [00:17:00] told me to go fuck myself.

[:

[00:17:04] Phil: Yeah, you know, that I, I, that embarrassing moment, and he knows it, and I know it, and now I Hey, Sherry, what did your underwear

[:

[00:17:17] Chris: Sure,

[:

[00:17:24] Chris: roll. I could kill you right now, but

[:

[00:17:27] James: start. Yeah. He, [00:17:30] the, the one thing that stood out to me was his voice. Yes. Tone and quality of his voice. Yeah. I had to keep reminding myself, this guy's English.

[:

[00:17:40] Phil: That's the thing. I. Maybe on some level, I suspected he was English, but I really didn't know for sure. I thought he was. American at some point. Yeah.

[:

[00:17:53] Phil: You sure? But I think it's all, well, it may be for roles because he very quickly could delve into the various colloquial accents.[00:18:00]

[:

[00:18:01] Chris: Yeah. That, and he seemed like he's good with impressions. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Cause he did, he did

[:

[00:18:08] Phil: mean, he was spot

[:

[00:18:10] Phil: Yeah. So he, I guess I didn't know that, that he, that he was so. eloquent with his accents that he could slip into them that

[:

[00:18:19] Sherry: Well, I mean, you know, you go from Prince's Bride and him in Syke with the British accent to him in Twister with that. Yeah. [00:18:30]

[:

[00:18:42] James: Yeah, it

[:

[00:19:03] Chris: Yeah.

[:

[00:19:10] Chris: certain impressions are easier for you to do than others for everybody. Right. Certain ones are just come natural, I guess, based off your own voice and your own inflections or in tone and all that stuff.

[:

[00:19:28] Phil: Now, I, I had [00:19:30] bought the book prior to going to that event with their intention of reading it in case they were going to let us ask questions or whatever, they didn't, but I never did get to read the book, but I'm sure some of those stories.

[:

[00:19:42] Chris: Oh, thank you.

[:

[00:19:56] Chris: yeah, I'd never noticed it.

[:

[00:20:03] Phil: When I first saw it without knowing he was injured, it looked a little awkward, but I'd never made anything of it. And then no, but I thought he twisted his ankle, but apparently it was a pretty really fractured his toe.

[:

[00:20:27] Phil: No, it's just, yeah. 'cause if it had [00:20:30] snapped the ankle, then I think that they would have to halt production at that point. Mm-Hmm. .

[:

[00:20:36] James: Maybe that's the only thing that saved his foot. Yeah. Maybe because he was saying that it was Andre, the Giants three wheel a TV. Yeah. Right. Going for a ride.

[:

[00:20:58] Phil: Hey

[:

[00:20:59] Phil: Hey [00:21:00] boss.

[:

[00:21:09] Chris: So that apparently that's what he drove around. Like he owns, he had a farm. Yeah. And he drive that around on his farm so they got him one.

[:

[00:21:16] Phil: Scott on tape is like we've mentioned him before, he is a YouTuber that we watch actually went to that farm. After Andre had passed away and didn't live there anymore. But some of the structures are still there. And he visited Andre's farm order, but yes, he did ride a [00:21:30] three wheeler, but apparently when they were filming the scene, Oh, my sweet Leslie, what have I done when I've fallen down the hill?

[:

[00:21:54] Phil: And essentially broke his toe.

[:

[00:22:00] Phil: And then.

[:

[00:22:01] Phil: story,

[:

[00:22:05] Phil: so if you watch that scene where he's sort of mad at, at Princess Buttercup at, uh, you know, there are a couple of scenes when he, when he stands from the sitting position, like he's leaning against the log, when he stands up his right leg, I guess, I think it is.

[:

[00:22:23] Chris: he is very, you can tell he is delicate with it. Yes. Like if you watch it knowing he's hurt his foot, then it, it is pretty obvious what, what he is doing. But yeah. Uh, [00:22:30]

[:

[00:22:33] James: right? Oh, well, I forgot the one where he said that where he kicked his leg up.

[:

[00:22:45] Chris: up with the way? Oh, right. Same

[:

[00:22:56] Phil: You know, you, you bend your leg, you stand up, but he doesn't. And. [00:23:00] Anyway, it worked out, I guess.

[:

[00:23:10] Phil: Yeah, tell that story.

[:

[00:23:14] Phil: Yeah, so, apparently he tells the story of When they're filming coming out of the fire swamp, right?

[:

[00:23:30] Sherry: Yes.

[:

[00:23:42] Sherry: Oh,

[:

[00:23:43] Sherry: never called that.

[:

[00:23:47] Sherry: Tyrone. Tyrone. Okay.

[:

[00:23:55] Phil: Anyway,

[:

[00:23:59] Phil: of the fire swamp. [00:24:00] Got my wife to kill. I'm swamped. My country's 500th anniversary. I saw when he coming out of the fire swamp. Obviously, Humperdick tells Rugen. Make sure this man gets back to his ship.

[:

[00:24:27] Chris: And

[:

[00:24:34] Phil: Because they left the props. Yeah. They forgot. Yeah. Somewhere. Hours away. The prop master forgot the. The rubber ones. Rubber sword. Or

[:

[00:24:43] Phil: Yeah. And so they were trying to film it, you know, at an angle where he would miss him, but it looked like he hit him and it just wasn't coming off.

[:

[00:25:12] Phil: He touches him on the head, but he doesn't touch him. He hits him and knocks carry straight out. Literally. He's literally unconscious, hitting the head with a piece of steel. Kerry wakes up in the doctor's office while they're putting stitches in his head. With his foot all messed up. Yes, with his foot all messed up.

[:

[00:25:33] Chris: off. The doctor. Oh yeah,

[:

[00:25:36] Chris: Yeah.

[:

[00:25:44] James: What was the other, the other one take was the, the sand, the quicksand.

[:

[00:25:51] Phil: Yes.

[:

[00:26:03] Phil: That's the take they use. One take. I said, we'll let you do it.

[:

[00:26:10] James: right?

[:

[00:26:16] James: Probably probably not,

[:

[00:26:26] Phil: Yeah, it's just little things.

[:

[00:26:29] Phil: things like that

[:

[00:26:30] Phil: Yeah, now something I did know, I'd heard somewhere. During the fire swamp when Buttercup caught on fire, William Goldman was on set. He's the writer. And I guess he wasn't aware that that was going to happen or whatever. But as soon as Her dress catches on fire.

[:

[00:27:02] James: come on set. I

[:

[00:27:03] James: right. One of the, uh, William Goldman wrote it and then nobody would produce it.

[:

[00:27:15] Phil: What's his name? It's right here on the poster. Hold on.

[:

[00:27:21] Phil: that's it. Yeah, he

[:

[00:27:25] James: I didn't know that. I thought that was And

[:

[00:27:39] James: is the son of Carl Reiner. Carl Reiner and that guy, they were TV pioneers. Yes. Basically.

[:

[00:27:54] Sherry: Older man, just sit there cracking each other up just, [00:28:00] oh yeah, oh yeah. Uh, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. Yes.

[:

[00:28:10] Phil: He may, I think he did. I know him and Mel Brooks always ate dinner together at Mel Brooks apartment or something.

[:

[00:28:20] Sherry: mean, still at that, that age when I, you know, I was watching that interview, just hilarious. Yeah. These men.

[:

[00:28:31] Phil: Yeah. Is Mel Brooks still alive? I guess he is. Yeah.

[:

[00:28:39] Sherry: And Norman Lear passed away at what, 101 or something?

[:

[00:28:43] James: Yeah. Yeah, Brooks was born in 26, so he's about to turn 98. Oof. Wow. Yeah. More power to him, man. That's awesome. Yeah, some of the best out there. Oh, that was the other one. Cary Elwes. One of my other favorite movies of him is Robin Hood Men of Tights. [00:29:00] Robin Hood Men of Tights.

[:

[00:29:03] Sherry: Whoa. Oh Oh. Oh. Oh.

[:

[00:29:18] Sherry: Oh.

[:

[00:29:25] Sherry: I need to watch that.

[:

[00:29:26] James: yeah, yeah. There's been lots of Carry El Wis movies that I've just. [00:29:30] Loved over the years and hadn't realized. Oh my god. He's all

[:

[00:29:40] James: I don't know. I think there's like 12 of them now,

[:

[00:29:47] Sherry: They just show gore. Yeah. It's

[:

[00:29:50] James: gore. Yeah. You have to, you have to cut into yourself or others to free yourself. Oh no. Oh, like you, you've done something wrong in

[:

[00:30:07] Chris: Right. The keys to your handcuffs

[:

[00:30:10] Sherry: Right. Oh, right. Yeah. So tell me, how does Carrie play? I mean, what does he do in this movie? He's

[:

[00:30:25] James: What's going on, how they got to get out.

[:

[00:30:34] James: Yeah. Yeah.

[:

[00:30:37] James: it's, you gotta watch a movie. I don't know his name. Uh, I only saw the first one.

[:

[00:30:42] James: is good, but it's, it's weird because it's lit with, uh, fluorescent Yeah.

[:

[00:30:53] Phil: Sure. Yeah. I'm sure that was a choice for her.

[:

[00:31:01] Phil: Sure. No.

[:

[00:31:07] Phil: It's not his butt.

[:

[00:31:08] Sherry: cut his butt off.

[:

[00:31:27] James: we could we could save the when you first saw it [00:31:30] for the the actual episode.

[:

[00:31:31] Sherry: Okay,

[:

[00:31:38] Sherry: Totally forgot that we were doing that cuz I've

[:

[00:31:46] James: Say that for the episode teaser.

[:

[00:31:52] James: Elwes movies out there. Again, the thing is his voice is exactly like the movie liar liar. When he [00:32:00] plays the stepdad, that is Carrie Elwes's true actual voice. I was like,

[:

[00:32:09] Phil: I've seen Liar Liar once. He's

[:

[00:32:14] Chris: Well, cause, yeah. Jim Carrey does the claw, and it works. And then later on, he tries the, you know, Dude Jim Carrey ish thing, and it does not go well with the kid. No, no, no, no. The claw, the claw, yeah.

[:

[00:32:28] Phil: remember him being in it until

[:

[00:32:31] James: fifties dad or something,

[:

[00:32:34] James: yeah. So that's who he reminds me of just in person. He's probably totally different, but I don't know.

[:

[00:32:57] James: Still is.

[:

[00:33:05] Sherry: well.

[:

[00:33:06] James: Yeah.

[:

[00:33:19] Phil: Stunning looking people.

[:

[00:33:27] Phil: I don't know what his first movie, but yeah, if it, if it [00:33:30] didn't say introducing Carrie Ellis, then it wouldn't be. And unless it's because he was,

[:

[00:33:37] Phil: she wasn't an actress, but this is her first movie, not TV, you know.

[:

[00:33:43] Sherry: don't

[:

[00:33:49] Sherry: I mean, I always thought those are two pretty people, but I was, I was amazed. I mean, we weren't like right on the front row, but we [00:34:00] were close and he really has aged well. Yes. Yes. He's still very nice looking

[:

[00:34:08] Sherry: and that British accent doesn't hurt.

[:

[00:34:12] James: So no, yeah, Carrie Elwes was in some stuff before Princess Bride a few movies No, not that I've seen Oxford Blues the bride Lady Jane Mashinka But then he went from Princess Bride to Glory, Days of [00:34:30] Thunder, Hotshot, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Crush.

[:

[00:34:37] James: Huge

[:

[00:34:38] Chris: yeah.

[:

[00:34:39] Chris: forgot about Glory, I don't know why. I completely forgot about that until just now. Yeah, I remember him as Glory. He's

[:

[00:34:55] Sherry: just I just love him in psych.

[:

[00:35:00] Phil: Yeah, he is very comedic in psych. It's good. He's he's I've really enjoyed like probably next the prince's bride psych is my favorite Stuff that he's in or,

[:

[00:35:25] Phil: international jewel thief or art thief on psych [00:35:30] and getting

[:

[00:35:33] Phil: Yeah. But then that's ama and that that's the quality, I guess, of, of his acting that you can love him in as Wesley, but find him completely obnoxious and detestable in something like Sister. Right. You know? Now the, the, the one other thing that I sort of, and then this is the, the debate versus streaming versus going to the theater.

[:

[00:35:56] Phil: There is no debate. Uh, the theater experience with Princess Bride or [00:36:00] whatever was exceptional because you're with 30, you know, three, 5,000 fans. Who loved it as much as you do, and the whole audience is quoting along with it. That's what I was gonna say earlier. Oh, for the movie? Yeah.

[:

[00:36:16] James: first time you've seen Princess Bride? Was it the No. No. Last Sunday? No. Okay.

[:

[00:36:21] Chris: No, I was Talking about the differences and the Yeah. I was gonna talk about that yeah.

[:

[00:36:29] Chris: [00:36:30] Yeah.

[:

[00:36:32] Phil: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It

[:

[00:36:36] Phil: Yeah, but it's,

[:

[00:36:45] Chris: but everybody's sitting there in the dark rooms, having, sharing the same experience, even though you're not talking about it and all that stuff.

[:

[00:37:00] James: Yes. Yeah. I would have to say like something like this of seeing something.

[:

[00:37:16] Chris: And that's where they like, like this, it was an, you know, that's his anniversary. Right.

[:

[00:37:22] Chris: coming up on the anniversary.

[:

[00:37:23] Phil: 40th is

[:

[00:37:31] Phil: now he did talk about Billy Crystal as Miracle Max. Yeah. And. And Billy Crystal is like Robin Williams at that point, almost very improvisational and can just go on and apparently, and I don't, I would hope the cameras were rolling and that, that footage, you just

[:

[00:37:48] Chris: And

[:

[00:37:56] Sherry: there and watch that. I really would. Especially if you can hear Rob [00:38:00] Bronner laughing out loud. And that Manny Patinkin says he pulled a rib.

[:

[00:38:13] Chris: So people were trying to keep from laughing. Crystal looked at it as a challenges. Oh, I'm going to break you. So like he got Rob Reiner They had to escort him away or whatever so they could hear so he you know, he's laughing wouldn't ruin it Carrie who's supposed to be mostly dead, you know They replaced him with a dummy because he couldn't fucking hold it together [00:38:30] And then I think manny was like the last one.

[:

[00:38:32] Phil: Yeah, he pulled it He physically strained a rib trying to keep

[:

[00:38:36] Sherry: he did. I didn't I don't remember All I know is last night. I did watch it again last night Like I said, and I was watching for the different things that carrie talked about

[:

[00:38:45] Sherry: And one of them was that I was like, looking at Mandy Patinkin's face and he's just like, totally like staring at him.

[:

[00:38:56] James: But how did he say that he came up with it? They put him in, they put Billy [00:39:00] Crystal in makeup and he looked in the mirror going, it

[:

[00:39:03] James: grandma and then like

[:

[00:39:06] Phil: Yeah, it was two different people combined and I, for the life of me, can't remember who he mentioned.

[:

[00:39:12] Chris: it's just, he slowly became I feel like he was a Yankees baseball manager and then like his grandma or something. Yeah, that sounds right. And

[:

[00:39:20] Chris: character to

[:

[00:39:22] Phil: way. You got any soup? He talked about, and I sort of heard this, but I didn't know all the [00:39:30] Specifics.

[:

[00:39:37] Sherry: story before.

[:

[00:39:39] James: told it so well

[:

[00:39:44] Phil: But it lasted 16 seconds. Someone timed it? You want to tell what it was? Hulk Hogan and Carrie did a tribute to Andre. And Carrie told the story to Hulk Hogan and Hulk Hogan said, yeah, that's Andre.

[:

[00:40:08] James: the castle when they're looking over and he's mostly dead.

[:

[00:40:13] Chris: Yeah. It's that scene.

[:

[00:40:16] Phil: and Andre let's

[:

[00:40:16] Phil: go for 16 seconds. And Carrie said that you could hear. The, the wooden set that they were on vibrate with this giant fart from a giant

[:

[00:40:31] Phil: and it went on for 16 seconds. Now there is a, in, in his book, cause I was stumbling through the pictures a couple of days ago.

[:

[00:40:52] James: Andre and Kerry laugh. Better now, boss.

[:

[00:41:01] Phil: Yeah, anyway. So this kind of stuff, it was very cool. Yeah, I, my cheeks did hurt.

[:

[00:41:06] Sherry: Throughout the night laughing at him. Yeah, it was. It was a real enjoyable event just, and it was totally worth, I don't know how much we paid for those tickets, but it, it was really, I like to go to events. This is just a, a once in a lifetime.

[:

[00:41:28] Phil: who

[:

[00:41:45] James: saw the thing for it in October and immediately sent it.

[:

[00:42:01] Chris: later. Yeah, they added the second show. We bought the first available thing. There was

[:

[00:42:07] Sherry: I wondered if people would dress up, and they did. It was Zambia. Yeah. Some people did dress up and some people had on, like, I saw one person with a t shirt that says, anybody want a peanut? You know? So that was neat to, to be around the heart. I would say hardcore.

[:

[00:42:28] Phil: It was a little bit.

[:

[00:42:35] Chris: people. Yeah. So if you just got to get over the And they get dressed up in whole different ways. Right. A lot of people are like, Oh, all right, that's a cool costume, or hey, look at that one.

[:

[00:42:47] James: Some of them you're like, man, you're gonna wear that for eight hours? Damn. That looks hard. Yeah. But

[:

[00:42:58] James: Yeah. Worth it. I'm glad [00:43:00] that, you know, I don't remember when we bought tickets.

[:

[00:43:07] Chris: saw it. Bought tickets. Yeah. Like so long that it was like, when is it again? That's come, when is it? I couldn't remember when it was that we were gonna go do

[:

[00:43:14] Sherry: it was a good theater to see it too, because like I said, the person that I worked with that went to the early showing of it, she was in the top balcony, but.

[:

[00:43:33] James: There's no bad seats in that place. I've been there. This'll be my fourth time. And I've seen, you know, music acts there. I've seen comedy acts there. It is a great venue for that stuff. It is drive to get to Dallas, walking up the street to seven 11 to get something to drink.

[:

[00:44:10] James: Right. So we walk around, there's a dude standing there. And he opens the door for us. He's like, Hey man, hit me up when you get back out, lets us in. So my wife gives him a dollar when he opens the door to let us back out. I'm like, Dallas. Was that, like, security? No, it was just a guy. He's like, Hey, the door's right here.

[:

[00:44:35] Chris: thing, like, it would have been five bucks for Phil then. That's what he

[:

[00:44:43] Sherry: to buy something.

[:

[00:44:50] Phil: don't know.

[:

[00:44:52] Phil: It's like that guy in Austin. We went down there. You got a dollar. You got a dollar. Just give me a dollar. You're so [00:45:00] angry. You got a dollar!

[:

[00:45:03] Chris: made a comment about, you know, like, people, you're begging for food with an attitude as opposed to, hey man, can you really help me out? Like, a completely different approach. I'd forgotten about that, Phil. You're just angry. You got a dollar! And yeah, Phil immediately goes, well, you know, if I'm begging for food or begging for stuff, I'm not going to do it with an attitude.

[:

[00:45:36] Phil: Yeah. Yeah,

[:

[00:45:39] James: We got out of there on top. Well, that was the only bad part was when it was over, you know, thank you for coming lights. Come on. We're kind of meandering. And then.

[:

[00:45:54] Chris: VIP bullshit. No. Didn't know it was a vip.

[:

[00:45:58] James: we're visiting 'cause we [00:46:00] hadn't seen each other in a minute. Right. Yeah, because I have a small bladder. I go to the bathroom. I bet I went to the bathroom twice during the movie. They had the whole thing playing. So like the q and a, it was playing in the bathroom. I could hear.

[:

[00:46:18] Phil: That's cool. Okay, so if you were hiding

[:

[00:46:21] Chris: they didn't want, what you're saying is we should have gone to all, gone to the bathroom afterwards and we could hear the VIP P maybe.

[:

[00:46:26] James: maybe. But

[:

[00:46:27] James: okay, please get out, I'm like, oh, [00:46:30] shit.

[:

[00:46:38] Chris: respectful of his time, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah,

[:

[00:46:40] Chris: yeah. They had it down.

[:

[00:46:42] James: Jim, if you could hear it everywhere then.

[:

[00:46:45] James: oh, the other thing was they quit selling alcohol before the movie started. Like when seven o'clock they, they closed all the beverages down.

[:

[00:46:57] James: lot of, and they were funnier than they are.

[:

[00:47:09] Phil: Yeah.

[:

[00:47:13] James: No,

[:

[00:47:14] James: God. Well, they were, they were, they told everybody, Hey, we're closing this before the movie, like, Hey, order your drinks, but

[:

[00:47:22] James: one star for one star for the majestic because they quit selling water.

[:

[00:47:33] Phil: And so James had, it was, you know, got there, we got there. So I really go to the bathroom and I walk up to the stall and, you know, and all of a sudden there's this guy next to me, talking to me. And then my first thought was, oh my god, I'm, who is this guy wanting to talk to me in a men's restroom? With

[:

[00:47:51] James: Right.

[:

[00:47:54] James: didn't see you there. It's like at work on the old times, like when Phil's in there pooping, I'm like, hey, Phil. [00:48:00] What's up? Well,

[:

[00:48:02] James: I can tell by his shoes.

[:

[00:48:09] Phil: I got there

[:

[00:48:10] Phil: Yeah, he was there first. Then I see

[:

[00:48:20] Phil: I don't want it, sir.

[:

[00:48:23] Chris: Come on. You want to look? Yeah. Y'all's exchange about your, at Lowe's, the, the coffee story, that is, that's part of my [00:48:30] favorite between you two.

[:

[00:48:35] James: I

[:

[00:48:43] Chris: Cause my understanding is something happens and Phil, you go, Oh shit. James goes, what? You shit your pants. And your response was. Worse, I spilled my coffee. Oh yeah. That's still, that's top exchange between the two. And I'm like, in what world [00:49:00] is shit in your pants worse than spilling your coffee? And I love coffee.

[:

[00:49:03] Phil: yeah. Listen man. And that was James first response. Oh my god.

[:

[00:49:11] Phil: Any other thoughts on the evening that we have? We're coming up right on an hour, which is pretty good. Yeah, much better than John Cusack. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, not his fault. Right. That event. I think, I think he's like, I

[:

[00:49:29] Phil: yes, go [00:49:30] see him.

[:

[00:49:38] Sherry: I didn't, I just, you know, yeah, it wasn't like a, didn't sit there looking at my

[:

[00:49:55] Phil: It was, it was, yeah, he's, it was good to see him and it was just a [00:50:00] good experience for a movie that is. And I think he thoroughly enjoyed it. No, I, I think he was, I think he gets a charge. It's gotta be almost, you know, like being a rockstar. You come out and people are cheering you. And then they give you a standing ovation, you know.

[:

[00:50:21] Phil: Yeah, I, I think he, appreciates what Bride has done for him and what continues to do for him. There was a, now this was the thing about [00:50:30] Cusack. I knew going in that Cusack was, he leaned left compared to my views on a lot of things.

[:

[00:50:58] Phil: But Kerry also, [00:51:00] Hollywood leans Democrat because there was several years ago, they did a fundraiser for some Democrat candidate. And I didn't care about that, but I wanted to see the event. It was a zoom event. You could buy a ticket for and it was Carrie and, and, and the whole cast, the whole cast of Princess Bride on a zoom event Reading the script of Princess Bride.

[:

[00:51:38] Phil: And so I think both guys leaning left, you know, which is not a bad thing. I'm sort of centrist anyway. We don't want to get into politics, but, but, but are professional and, and, and humble enough to know. Yeah. Right. That I don't need to force my views on you all the time. Yeah.

[:

[00:51:56] James: I like, I like when politics was boring. Yeah. I like that [00:52:00] time. Yeah. Let's take it back.

[:

[00:52:12] Chris: Right. Like Tom Cruise, for example. Right. But I can go and enjoy his movies because it's got nothing to do with it. It's completely separate. And if he's out talking about the movie, promoting the movie, to my knowledge, I've never heard him mix the two. He's talking about whatever movie he's out to. Other than being passionate and very happy

[:

[00:52:27] James: Yeah. He doesn't really mix.

[:

[00:52:41] Chris: asking him about Scientology, then yeah, maybe you'll get a dose, but yeah.

[:

[00:52:45] James: He'll probably light up like you never seen him light up before. I mean, he, there's people out there that love all kinds of stuff. Sure. Come to life when you talk about something they enjoy. Yeah. Right. That are some, yeah, people are not one dimensional. Yeah.

[:

[00:53:03] Phil: It was fantastic. It was a good time. All right. So I guess we are out.

[:

[00:53:12] Phil: at least.

[:

[00:53:19] Chris: shook his hand and went, hey, was that your ass that I just

[:

[00:53:28] James: The only time a celebrity [00:53:30] will remember you

[:

[00:53:32] James: It's when you're batshit crazy.

[:

[00:53:41] Chris: And then, yeah, it's, you can't unsee it once you know that story and you see it. Yeah.

[:

[00:53:47] Sherry: No, well. Heh heh. Heh heh. Heh heh. Heh

About your hosts

Philip McClimon

Profile picture for Philip McClimon
Philip A. McClimon is an author who likes to write about the end of the world (post apocalyptic, Sci/Fi), mostly because he thinks the shopping would be awesome (No crowds, everything free). He likes heroes that are the strong, silent type and not necessarily male. By silent he means up until the time there is something snarky to say, usually before, during, and after doing something cool.

He writes Urban Fantasy under the name Billy Baltimore for no other reason than that he likes the name. Many of the same rules for his other stories apply to Billy’s, strong silent types, smart mouth, does cool stuff, but these stories take place in a made up town called Hemisphere and involve stuff you only ever hear about on late night conspiracy talk show podcasts, which are, if you think about it, pretty awesome too.

So, that's Phil. He's not strong, rarely silent, and isn't known for doing a lot of cool things.

But his characters are.

Sherry McClimon

Profile picture for Sherry McClimon
The wife of Philip McClimon. Probably all that needs to be said. She is responsible for his bad behavior not being worse than it is. She is concerned that her mother might listen.

James Harris

James Harris is a tech guru and musician extraordinaire; he also loves movies. A pretty decent guy all around.

Chris Sapp

Profile picture for Chris Sapp
Chris Sapp has been a friend for a lot of years and a writer for a lot more. An encyclopedic knowledge of story and movies, he can take you on a deep dive into script and screen. Another pretty decent guy, which are the only kind allowed around here.
