0:13

them we hope you will join us as we dig deep into cinematic masterpieces and some that are well maybe not

0:20

you have an opportunity to be the fifth host of our little show click the link in the show notes and leave us a voice

0:26

message telling us what movie you would like us to review you can also reach out on our Facebook

0:31

page Fellowship of the real from all of us at Fellowship of the real thanks for listening okay on with the

0:38

show at this point in the movie I'm like okay well here's here's what you should have done and I'm thinking yeah right

0:46

my favorite openings ever and I've watched that alternate ending and it is garbage it doesn't go where you think

0:53

it's going to go there's a monster I am I'm ready for it to be oh well I'm not

0:59

sure I can even fully uh explain why I love this movie so much

1:06

my feelings on it have not changed I fell asleep until the screaming this

1:13

is actually where I started enjoying the movie is one of my favorite scenes in all of Cinema

1:18

I thought that should have been cut completely oh come on well I'm sure it's artistic and you just don't get it all

1:25

this time it is the mummy uh:

1:33

Cruise I haven't seen the Tom Cruise one but I have seen this yes we have that one yeah

1:39

I fell asleep all right well damn yeah I think it's worth staying awake through

1:44

it's it doesn't compare to the one we're about to review but I mean but it's very different totally and everything but I

1:50

enjoyed it but they were supposed to launch the whole yeah it was a they were called Dark Universe and this shared

1:57

kind of you know to I guess mirror the Marvel Universe oh yeah they were gonna because uh

2:03

the sorry the old Universal Monsters the Dracula Frankenstein mummy all that

2:09

stuff they were gonna because they had Dracula Untold and that was supposed to be kind of the part of it and then they

2:14

did uh which which I enjoy that one a lot and then we're uh Vlad the Impaler

2:19

is Dracula like they they combine the two to make them the the one character anyhow but yeah since

2:25

Tom Cruise didn't this The Mummy one didn't deliver Tom Cruise type number is it yeah the whole thing just died they

2:32

had people like Johnny Depp on board yeah because Russell Crowe is Russell Crowe is in the mummy he's hiding a

2:38

Jekyll yeah oh that's cool huh that'll work that would have been cool to see but this was

2:44

not that when it was:

2:49

frasers and I think and Rachel Weis were I think anyone know

2:55

who she was I like to say you know we asked previously you know why did you pick this movie for me this is one of

3:01

those perfect movies this you know may not be perfect top to bottom

3:06

traditionally but I think it's a perfect movie as to I can watch it beginning to end yeah at any point and I enjoy it

3:14

completely yeah me too yeah no I I've seen it we own it I bought it I love it you know I

3:19

think the comment I'd made when we were I don't remember what point we were into the movie um watching it uh Leith Bell the jerk

3:26

but um Jason and I watched it last night and I remember at one point making a comment they don't make movies like this

3:33

anymore right right yeah there's a it was like and I wish they did it was an epic style of movie you know going lots

3:40

of locations and the stakes you know gotta save the world it yeah just it

3:46

seems yeah it seems easy to do but apparently it's not yeah right there's a bunch of movies that yeah do the same

3:52

kind of thing try to and and fail miserably yeah we're going to get into all that but uh we want to do our thing

3:59

Jerry has some questions for us yes yes let's call it Sherry's queries yes well

4:06

there you go there you go all right and it is it's a pop quiz pop quiz

4:12

[Music]

4:17

all right Sherry okay sorry I made it so tough last time hey quickly

4:22

uh but uh the first one I'll start off with one is it old saying and I've heard

4:29

it so many times but I've never seen the movie all right y'all ready ready yeah all right you talking to me that's Taxi

4:36

Driver okay see I've never seen the movie okay but I hear it all the time yeah yeah yeah what does it say there's

4:42

a rain coming it's gonna wash these things yeah okay the only one here must be

4:49

talking to me psycho becomes a hero you know there you go no it's it's

4:55

why is it every time I hit anything I've got that's a fifteen dollars

5:01

okay all right the next one all right and this is kind of a long quote but

5:07

this movie that this comes from has two quotes I was kind of debating but this

5:12

is the one I like I always have have liked this quote okay all right you ready yep the greatest trick the devil

5:20

ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist I think by our looks we all know this one does someone want to

5:26

answer and do it all on the count of three yeah one two three

5:32

yes yeah Kaiser Soze Kevin Spacey can you think of the other line that I was

5:37

gonna put in there

5:43

yeah I was like two different guys but yeah uh what's his name no they all say

5:49

well they all have to say that line yes but is it Stephen Baldwin yeah

5:58

in English that's something I use a lot oh yeah like everyday life is like especially uh

6:06

someone will send me you know I guess because I'm I'm old I guess and they send me text and you know these these

6:11

kids these days they it's all abbreviated right you know it's letters for full [ __ ] sentences yeah and one

6:17

of my tech was doing it the other day and I just responded in English like yeah can you use your words yeah use

6:24

your words I'll say that one too yeah yeah in person but I like some unusual words yeah I like both of those lines

6:30

but I just didn't want to say the other yeah that's one worth the reviewing oh yeah Sunday is that one oh yeah all

6:37

right and the last one it's just a movie that I quote there were so many quotes in it but this is

6:43

one of the ones that it just makes me laugh it says chip I'm gonna come at you

6:48

like a spider monkey Yeah Talladega Nights I could put that movie on and play it

6:55

over and over again I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew

7:02

Tuesday kids through Grandpa's War medals off the bridge yeah I mean I'm sitting my pee pants right now yeah

7:11

yeah I'm just saying I'm gonna come at you like a cider monkey yeah I like what he said to you chip

7:17

oh my God what is it Walker in Texas right yes or kids if you want us if we want us a couple of wussies we would uh

7:23

named them Dr Quinn and Medicine Woman smoking hot wife

7:29

baby Jesus he was a man he had a beard that's another one I love that movie so

7:36

many lines that I just quote all the time yeah help me Tom Cruise get Tom

7:41

Cruise okay can't have two number ones that's right that'd make a living yeah y'all

7:47

knew all of those so they're implications what's implications mean means we can't be friends anymore why

7:54

I love that all right what movie or remuely always have to let's get to

7:59

at question this is the mummy:

8:05

no no that's not bad about the movie I meant more though the rising I get for

8:12

some of my picks well but even even so they weren't terrible I think they anyway no that's

8:19

that's now my noodle just make it [ __ ] terrible just playing yeah right just playing

8:25

all right so uh this is James's moment let's go yeah uh money critics fans [Music]

8:33

yeah all right there we go so uh does someone else have this or do me you go for it I

8:39

always print this stuff out I don't know if uh I will start off with uh I think

8:44

hopefully by now a lot of people know what this is about but let's start off with the blurb The Mummy is arousing suspenseful and horrifying epic about uh

8:52

orers in the Sahara desert in:

8:58

hunters unwittingly set loose a 3 000 year old Legacy of Terror which is embodied in the vengeful Reincarnation

9:04

of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the Living Dead seems fair yeah is that I

9:12

may have missed it is that blurb date wrong though I remember seeing 23 in the movie but does it jump in time and I

9:17

be present day for the movies:

9:25

got it wrong oh I'm sorry so:

9:33

the French Foreign Legion oh yes that's within three years later uh Evelyn and

9:38

everybody yeah three years right 26. that said 25. oh

9:44

I'm just this is what this is seeing 26. yeah because I felt like we did have like after that because yes the 23 date

9:51

is the Foreign Legion and then it jumps to when they meet up with him but I didn't know if they actually threw a

9:56

date up there they threw a date I missed it um I was just curious if the date was 25 or and that says three years well uh

10:03

does anyone recall a date it doesn't matter I just thought that was funny that the blurb was wrong I think I even

10:08

asked what well so it's probably 25 or 26 then is that what we're saying

10:13

because yes it's post World War one for sure pre-World War II so yeah I mean that yeah again yeah the date doesn't

10:20

really matter well I it's interesting that you mentioned that because I did not that they're in the same universe

10:25

but I was like okay archaeologists Egyptian what is so if this was the same world

10:32

what year did Indiana Jones go looking for his Lost Ark in Egypt right uh

10:38

apparently he's 36 right yes that was so I I say in Egypt 11 years before Indiana would go raid the Lost Ark nice and then

10:45

I wrote a Nazi free archeology Adventure because I was like okay Egyptians archaeologist desert but this is

10:52

absolutely a lighter Fair than Indiana and it's 25 so the Nazi party and all

10:58

that would not have risen or been a thing yet right and so you have basically what I'm calling an archeology

11:04

Nazi free adventure which would have dragged down the tone you only you only have room for one bad guy I think in

11:11

this and the mummy would be the bad guy if you had the Nazis yeah it would be too much because we know back even if

11:17

this was in the:

11:22

monsters that were come to know later right in 38 they were just getting started right yeah so with this you know

11:29

no yeah I agree yeah if you have Nazis in the mummy that's too much and we're not gonna like this movie near as much

11:35

as we do also they probably they may have been a conscious choice because this although the time frame of the

11:41

movie predates Indiana Jones the movie is well after the Original Trilogy of Indiana Oh yes yeah so he may have been

11:46

conscious choice for the writers too let's stay away from Nazis yeah it's already been done like I feel like it

11:52

pays homage to India in terms like in The Same Spirit of Indiana Jones and a very loving like way like it's fun

11:57

without like comparing it to and going oh man this is it's not a rip-off of Indiana Jones by any means no

12:03

and James had mentioned I think it's absolutely right this movie is pure fun

12:08

like uh you might go to a movie to see an epic you might go to a movie to uh you know see a take on history or

12:16

something but this is a movie that you can go to and just enjoy the [ __ ] out of it in my opinion you know it reminds me

12:22

a lot of it's like if Indiana Jones mixed with Dracula the Bram stokers

12:27

Francis Ford Coppola directed Dracula because it's essentially a love story yes that's the way it the mummy's

12:35

motivation is love sure just like Dracula Dracula's main motivation was

12:41

love Yeah he was a monster whatever but it had a lot of you're not a monster

12:47

well we could we could get into it but if we if we boil it down to his core

12:53

motivations you know is he really that bad a guy except for what he was made into almost yeah just like Dracula yeah

13:00

was he a bad guy other than what he was made into he was made into a monster by yeah outside and now you're getting into

13:07

uh just you know justifying the means and all that stuff because he didn't care about any of the people that he's killing and all that either one of these

13:14

guys I hate the monster though well but I love the fact that before he wasn't killing people right in fact it wasn't

13:21

even Pharaoh's wife it was pharah's mistress which means Pharaoh had a wife and this was his side piece and The

13:28

Mummy you know the Imhotep the priest was in love with her and she with him and except for Pharaoh's infidelity it

13:37

probably would never been a problem it's it's hard a love story it's Through the Ages it's like Have You Ever Loved

13:43

something so much you would destroy the world to save it I mean yes that's wrong but that's his motivation yeah and you

13:50

can understand it but but when you tried to resurrect her the first time he wasn't killing a bunch of people he was just right he stole her body and he was

13:58

yes yeah her and was due and then they captured we can get into that whatever but anyway we're almost there almost

14:04

there that's the blur money critics fans okay so again I think these scores are a little low

14:10

especially the fan score Tomato Meter has 60 percent critics

14:15

giving it three and a half stars and 75 of the audience giving it three and a half Stars which is not 75 not bad you

14:22

know they're definitely lower than I expected yeah I mean this yeah this is the first of three I mean it was a big

14:28

hit oh yeah uh box office uh the budget was 80 million which is high but what

14:35

what they put on the screen you know is flashy domestic 155 million so right off

14:41

the bat it almost doubled its money just in America international 260 million for a worldwide of 415

14:48

million so you know five times its money yeah made five times it's budget yeah

14:55

yeah and you'll get a sequel and a Trilogy immediately after numbers like that sure now I've seen two and I

15:01

remember not being we have it I haven't watched it but two was okay there's a few holes in it yeah and then three is

15:09

not even about a mummy it's about a Dragon Emperor Jet Li I think so okay well yeah that one I think I've seen

15:16

once or twice but mummy the original one I've seen oh yeah no it's uh tons of times it's a go-to movie that it's fun

15:22

like the first two a lot and I remember enjoying the third one I remember not liking it as well but we uh I guess they

15:28

had them all on sale for like 15 bucks yeah individually so I bought them yeah yeah this one I watch them all it just

15:34

popped up that it was on Hulu and I had to sit and watch it when it popped up saying uh the mummies oh okay even

15:41

though I have it on DVD yeah now that being said

15:46

I have I have a lot of the Beats but I think a lot of the beats are blurry and or absent what you get with a movie like

15:54

this the the meat of a movie like this is fun and games so I think it's way fun

15:59

and games heavy but that's what you would almost expect you pay to see a movie like this for the fun end games

16:06

the set pieces the sure you know what I'm saying so so it's way heavy on fun and games but I think that's exactly

16:12

yeah what you're looking for you know and I guess that's I mean maybe it goes back to individual movies and what

16:18

you're saying about what you're looking for but yeah is that is too many fun and games better than one funding game you

16:25

know I mean not enough or I guess just depends on your mood and what you're looking for right yes I mean yeah I think that

16:33

I don't know it would be interesting as we get into it because I don't know that I came out of it going there were too many fun and games yeah there's a [ __ ]

16:39

ton of ideas of value like even the bad guys close in all the different beats yeah have really good ideas of value

16:46

um that are and the whole thing's light-hearted so I don't know I didn't count at all as fun and games but well

16:51

as we break it down you know yeah so okay so we'll start off the prologue oh

16:56

dude did I do the Beats all right so here we'll Beats

17:07

all right so the Beats uh it is Kepler and I mean it's great but that's what it

17:13

sounds like sounds like cat Point well it's for catboy that's right cat boy likes the whole

17:18

podcast together man um now there is a prologue with this this uh Imhotep and his girlfriend who I

17:25

can never remember it's uh Moon yeah this whole sort of uh prologue of his

17:33

thwarted love his uh you know being denied uh his his love uh given the

17:39

dreaded hum die punishment which I think makes him the monster that we had talked about you know he's a guy trying to be

17:46

with a girlfriend who is the side piece of a pharaoh who's got a wife yeah you know and all he wants to be is with his

17:54

girlfriend and that's prevented and and they basically made him this monster

17:59

yeah they cut out his tongue buried alive with a swarm of flesh eating scarabs yeah and the ritual causes him

18:06

to become an immortal walking plague if he were ever to be resurrected yes so all right I think this movie is way too

18:13

fun and lighthearted to I guess I feel like we're deep diving on this thing more than but anyhow if we're going down

18:19

this road um let's go uh yeah do you do they ever explain like does he

18:24

to me he never shows any qualms about unleashing the plagues on all these people you guys are trying to say oh all

18:30

right but even after the fact so now he's a bad guy at that point like he can't control now he's like [ __ ] everybody because I agree with what

18:36

you're saying at a point but if he's still just about love and that still ultimately his goal to me he never shows any qualms about

18:43

unleashing these horrible plagues and and killing the other guys to make himself whole right like he's he's a bad

18:49

guy so I don't care if it is all about love he's a [ __ ] bad guy so let's I I agree with you but if you kind of take

18:55

it to the context of me I'm just a normal guy I'm in love with this lady

19:01

they killed they kill her the whole circumstances I'm just a normal guy now they put a curse on me if I'm ever woken

19:07

up I get the keys to the Arsenal and I get to go resurrect her yeah out of love I'm not the bad guy I'm waking up with

19:14

super mystical Powers I'm gonna use everything to make that happen yeah you're waking up pissed off uh well

19:20

that's what I was thinking it's like you've been neat having bugs eat on you no and I get that but like he does not

19:25

like he's able to it's not a in a different kind of tale it's it'd be him getting revenge on all these [ __ ] or

19:31

the descendants of the [ __ ] that did this to him right yes like and that's Justified but just wiping out other innocent people got nothing to do with

19:38

it because you're in love like he's a bad guy well they weren't innocent they stole yeah he was going after him

19:45

all right you're right they're they're Raiders yeah cursed they they read the curse they ignore her organs sure that's

19:51

the that's the good part about it is you have a villain who is a supernatural villain who has a heart to him and well

19:58

no his motivation is a villain because a lot of times villains will have really weak motivation or it's not existent at

20:05

all and why is this guy doing this that's not the case here this guy you understand it you get it I thought the uh the prologue is well done very yeah

20:12

efficient but all right yeah well efficient's a good word for that too no you're right I think Sherry yeah put the

20:18

biggest hole here on my I was like these guys are innocent they're definitely you know they're great robbers yeah it's they're not that is

20:25

plus they're Americans and you know sure and they even the the uh I don't remember I had

20:32

the all the characters pulled up the the uh The Bodyguard the lead bodyguard karat or whatever his name is

20:39

Arden no RDS like Arden or something because our artist or something yeah he

20:45

uh oh the her bodyguard no no the the leader of the uh uh our our death Bay uh

20:54

Odin Fair the the Magi yeah the Magic Eye yes yeah the one that narrated at the beginning yeah yeah yes the Magi

21:00

which yeah we saw him in California in person yeah

21:05

and he's a very nice looking yeah he's a good looking he's a nice guy or you didn't get to meet him we were we were

21:11

standing um in Disneyland when the Pirates of the Caribbean was having their Premiere and

21:17

he was coming to see the movie nice and he had shorter hair then but he's taller

21:23

yeah yeah who else did you see there that you were like a super attractive oh uh Wonder Woman uh yeah Linda Carter

21:31

Linda Carter yes nice oh there was no camera tricks Raquel Welch was there right yeah I mean

21:38

and she was yeah oh my God there's a whole a whole bunch of people anyway look but artist Bay or whatever this

21:45

character's name is the Magi leader says uh uh now I have to go uh you

21:51

resurrected him now I have to go hunt him down and try to find some way to kill him so it's almost like putting

21:57

down like there's this wild animal now that I wouldn't have to put down except that you brought him around yeah right

22:03

and it was his entire job and his entire life and his ancestors life was to

22:09

prevent that thing from happening which is to be a sort of throwback to almost in Jenna 3 right with the keepers of the

22:15

Grail weren't there some yeah yeah anyway yes yes uh now that's so that's

22:21

sort of the prologue the opening image obviously first person and our hero is O'Connell I put him down as a he's a

22:28

rogue a brave hero with questionable luck in the French Foreign Legion so he's he's very much a rogue but things

22:34

do not break his way luck wise most of the time right other than the fact that

22:39

he lives he's a warrior Survivor and he's alone

22:44

like he's he's lined up with all these dudes the French Legion right of French Foreign

22:57

doom and you know he says something and brings like oh your words give me courage and

23:03

then two seconds later Benny's he says he says you're with you right Benny you're you know yeah yeah sure you know and then he takes off and runs away or

23:10

whatever so like he to me he's like looking for opening and closing images because he's he's very much not alone at

23:15

the end um yes I may be reaching a bit here but yeah he's not afraid of death and then

23:21

after the whole bit he's wandering in the desert and then the guy you were just talking about I don't remember his

23:26

name but the the lead magic guy yeah there's like what about this one let's kill him and he goes the desert will kill him right there's a Survivor you

23:33

know yes uh so if you're talking about his opening closing we'll be obviously get to it but he alone bad luck at the

23:39

end of the movie he's not alone and he's actually gotten a little lucky because he's riding a camel unbeknownst to him I

23:45

think at that time full of gold oh that's right yeah yeah that's right yeah yeah so his luck is definitely he's not

23:51

alone in his luck his turn anyway now the setup a bungling archaeologist and her equally bungling brother

23:56

discover a secret map to a secret lost city with rumored Treasures Beyond imagination she's not an archaeologist

24:03

she is a librarian librarian yes the Benbrook Scholars uh the ma the map is

24:09

destroyed by a bungling head librarian and the only one who knows now where the city is located is our down on his luck

24:14

Rogue and I said from almost dying in a war in the desert and at the end of the Rope he is getting a chance to live I

24:22

guess so the Evie and Jonathan their brother sister I read in the thing that they are the

24:30

children uh their parents were the ones that uncovered uh yeah the original

24:36

curse of the Mummy okay so they died in a car accident or whatever so their direct descendants of the mummy's curse

24:43

no matter what okay um and the brother Jonathan was a war hero from the world war one so he's got

24:51

a little PTSD he's a little wonky but and by no means is he bumbling in the

24:57

complete idiot right he's just quirky well yeah he's you know his his career is on the rise he said yeah right

25:04

he's a gambler he just found this he's having fun they found out how to open the box and there's a map in it yeah you

25:10

were saying the map gets destroyed yes now we yeah yes oh and then you know the guy who burns it oh look what happened

25:16

you know right yeah very like oh I certainly didn't mean to do that we'd later find out he's part of the magic

25:22

part of this secret society uh I have no debate like there is no debate uh when

25:28

Brandon when O'Connell gets the call about yeah show us can can you show us

25:35

where this lost city is do you swear every damn day I love that everybody

25:42

yeah I like the the bit before that I like that line but the uh when they're they're kind of setting up because the

25:47

warden is taking uh Jonathan and Evie over to him or whatever and he hadn't come out yet and they're like uh you

25:54

know why was there you know I think she asked do you know why he was arrested and all this stuff and he said well he said he had a good time yeah apparently

26:00

he had a very good time very good time yes and he comes out looking like George of the Jungle and [ __ ] right yes yes yeah

26:06

yeah I mean Brandon Vader is a big strapping guy I mean he's you know you know you know he uh I guess it's

26:13

interesting watching this and thinking about him just winning the Academy Awards obviously judging his his acting

26:19

maybe more than I probably did before yeah um and obviously this was a while ago but he uh I felt like he nailed it and

26:25

played this part perfectly to the way this character is supposed to be you know like he did a really good job

26:31

as far as you know selling every aspect that the seriousness the goofiness every

26:36

Everybody Was supposed to do was right yeah he nailed them yeah did you have a debate at all or anything

26:42

um the only thing I can come up with and I guess probably more of a set piece kind of fun in games a little bit the because you're

26:47

right he you know he's he's you know he's about to be uh hanged or whatever there's much there's not much I don't

26:54

know if I want to go out there right her haggling with awarding about the price for him though to save his life wait I

27:00

was like I was like I guess that was a debate but not really a debate about because she wanted him regardless because they need him because he can get

27:05

them to the to the thing so yeah I didn't really you're right there's not much of a debate yes there's a lot of

27:11

characters going on there's a lot of stuff like I thought yes it misses the debate beat but I feel like as far as

27:16

the setup it was very efficient yeah it's the story this sprawling epic story

27:22

gets it's fun and it gets it set up very quickly what what if the what if the

27:27

debate is not the going on the journey what if the debate is acknowledging that this place exists and there are

27:33

Supernatural things that's the debate they're like we need you to take us to this place yeah it exists but there's

27:40

not really anything there because he said that kind of thing you know I've been there there's only blood and death

27:45

blood and death yeah and then when bending about that but I couldn't come up with a break in the two later on that would be after the thing is red that

27:53

after the book is read and the locusts come and they've released him that would be my break into two but okay yeah I

28:00

thought about that for a little bit Yeah because maybe Ernie the drinking is not the debate it's fighting The Mummy that

28:07

would be the debate I yeah so this is what I'm thinking so yeah so

28:13

I have yeah and like it's you almost you have to reach for it because I don't think it's clear if if it exists he

28:19

agrees to take them to the city of the dead and then I just have he they board a boat anchored in the harbor of the

28:25

second act because they get on that boat and that's essentially where the the morning games start because immediately you got the the guys you know even the

28:30

guy with the you know holds up the the knife the knife hooking for a really long time to make sure you see it yes um

28:35

as they're going up on the boat like immediately setting up this boat ride is gonna be you know oh yeah it would be fun some stuff so you're putting the

28:42

boat ride in the second act as funny games yeah well if if him taking them to

28:47

the city is his is his breaking they board the boat that boat is the second once they get on they're sailing into

28:53

the second act yes I don't know man because James like that's too early yeah

28:58

usually in the First Act you were still introducing people and on the boat is when they meet the Americans

29:04

there by this point we've met O'Connell we've met Evie and Jonathan we've met

29:10

the the warden guy and we've met the mummy like we've met everybody even the wardens are cycle we still got to meet the well no I guess

29:17

because yeah you're right typically in the second act you meet you're in the upside down world you meet a whole host of characters that are upside down

29:24

versions of because the boat becomes a watering hole right to where you meet all the the side yeah it's almost like

29:29

the space bar in Star Wars or whatever exactly you know because that's where you meet the Americans you find out many

29:34

it is the space bar in Star Wars act two ah oh I'd have to do it there's my question yes because Luke's already

29:40

we're beating the wrong movies here but yeah um yeah because Luke's already I want to

29:45

come with you and learn the ways of the force because Adobe one that's his breakup yeah yeah right yeah even Gaza

29:51

yeah I think you're gonna be gonna be to nail I I think by the time

29:58

they get on the boat they are moving into the Fun and Games adventure part of the second act so if it's not the boat I

30:04

don't know if you have all this fun and games just getting to the hominator to the city or whatever they have all the stuff on the boat and then you have them

30:09

racing their camels and then oh yeah it's yeah yeah like my fun and games goes from here all the way down like

30:15

because I had the fun I had act two breaking after the book has been read the locusts are crawling on the doctor's

30:22

face and what have we done boom yeah okay because the mummy is the bad guy

30:27

what's the midpoint if the break-in too for you this is the midpoint it's gonna

30:33

be like a false false Victory false defeat right yes yeah because because what he has all the jars when he is now

30:40

full power okay all right I mean you could probably make a case for that because I think I am making a case

30:49

yeah I mean that's a biggest surprise to anybody is myself that I'm making no no I I feels like yeah I mean you could

30:56

probably even case for that I mean I'm gonna delete all the your points you're making yeah it's not gonna matter James but yeah I hope you feel good for saying

31:03

it I mean hey maybe I'm right I don't know you probably are anyway so I have

31:08

no debate in immediately fun and games and then I have so this these are very quickly these are my fun and games just

31:13

to see the flow here and then the B story is is Evie yeah uh I I I I didn't

31:18

nail one but I guess so

31:24

man for you guys being so sure that I'm wrong your your points are pretty wobbly

31:29

yeah I don't know if I'm right but I know you're wrong what's your B story [ __ ] Benny or something what's a b Story the character of change that leads

31:36

into James like he's the biggest and then would it be Benny because yeah I think it's Evie but yeah I didn't think

31:43

about it till just now but if you had to anyway so fun and games uh Sparks between

31:49

O'Connell and Evie they immediately start to spark even if it's yeah because Jonathan even Razer because once he's

31:55

out of the prison all cleaned up no longer the jungle he's like oh yeah nothing to see there nothing of yeah

32:00

she's immediately kind of spitting with him I mean now to be honest right kind of a man crush at that point you know

32:07

big strong guy are you handsome the roguish I mean you know hitting on all cylinders Oh wait we're

32:13

still on the boat right that was them like outside yeah oh about to get on the boat about to get on the boat Benny I

32:19

just have him down as a fun and game Benny Benny is is a lot of fun a lot of fun I love Benny yeah dirty little boys

32:25

like you always get their comeuppance they do always always yeah it's like it's a surprise to him he's like oh no

32:31

no no no no what Pharaoh's bodyguards attack and they have to abandon ship it

32:36

wasn't the pharaoh's bodyguards it was the uh the giant bad job yes yes I call him the bodyguards because they're

32:42

protecting the Pharaohs but yeah they're protecting that from them getting to it to open it yes but

32:48

they're the Magi yes several cool set pieces and then they have to abandon ship yeah I mean I like how O'Connell

32:55

nurses the the water right like he just threw many into the water yeah overboard and then he sees the footprints and he

33:01

looks out there's a you know like they don't show many in the water but you see him look like he could have gone back up

33:07

here that fast what the hell's going on yeah goodbye Benny well I like that I like when the boat's on fire wait here

33:13

I'll get help oh yeah he jumps these in the warden oh

33:19

so and the Americans are enjoying the shootout and all that stuff [Music] Americans did I lose my cool I think not

33:27

and he's holding the key yeah so so that's what I'm saying this like immediately we're in the fun games but

33:32

every well and then they they the boat sinks

33:37

and they're on the opposite sides yes that's one of my favorite Parts yes looks like you're on the wrong side of

33:42

the river you know hey Penny it's like you uh yeah right there okay I don't

33:49

have all the horses and yeah you said his one yeah now the reveal in the race to the city so they they get there and you know

33:55

O'Connell's like wait for it and the sun comes up and you have this pretty cool visual of the reveal of the city and the

34:01

race to the city uh I'm gonna listen to them we'll go through them because obviously there's a lot to unpack here

34:07

but entering the tomb discovery of the sarcophagus uh bugs and the melted Diggers the you know the the uh the

34:13

booby traps that yeah catches the the diggers yes yeah uh salt acid bodyguards

34:20

attack again leave or die they're given the proposition uh more Sparks between uh McConnell and Evie the rules of the

34:27

money mummy are given you know the what will happen you know what what he will do if he resurrects the opening of The

34:33

Mummy and then reading from the book that actually will eventually conjure The Mummy because there was there

34:39

there's two sites that they're on they both get to the same site of something the Americans take that one and send

34:47

Evie and Jonathan and uh what's his name the Brendan Fraser Rick

34:54

O'Connell yeah Enrique is uh yeah they go to another one yes and that turns out

35:00

to be the mummy uh the supernatural mummy because they're in the wrong spot yes yes essentially yes he still looks

35:06

wet or whatever they're digging in the wrong place right yeah but Evie Roy has that so she backs down yeah they're all

35:12

got the guns drawn when they're in the same spot um and she realizes that they could go you know yeah she can de-escalate the

35:18

situation right um I did like a little bit about he gave her a a digging tool and archaeologists

35:28

okay I was mistaken yes good yeah so so right away you're into this

35:34

funny and so it's just a set piece after set piece and and and gag after gag and even the exposition I think is set up

35:40

workers they're digging and there's um making jokes and stuff yeah like even like when they go down into the uh

35:47

I guess into the well or whatever where they before they start digging Jonathan gets down there and he's like what is

35:53

that smell and he looks and he rose of the wardens right behind him it's the bottom half of the Wardrobe

35:58

yeah right I've seen it and Cherry pointed out again like there's a scene where I guess he's tying up a camel and he's flipping

36:05

the rope and he's hitting him yeah

36:15

I enjoyed every time that's the thing yeah as I said earlier there's um I guess it was coming back to me like as I

36:21

was watching it and I've seen it you know obviously since then but just last night watching it like all sudden got

36:27

these Vivid memories of times when my dad laughed in the theater at this movie yeah yeah wow the the the river exchange

36:35

right you're on the wrong side of the river the horses my dad laughed at that and there's a bit later on that I remember him laughing at yeah yeah no

36:40

it's uh you know as much as Benny is Despicable everything is fun with that yeah you

36:46

know the banter between Benny and O'Connor so now so that brings me up to all those

36:52

of the fun and games that I have that's what I had it as and then I have a midpoint Foster feat

36:58

so do y'all you have what is the midpoint midpoint false defeat they read

37:03

from the book I have oops they conjured The Mummy because they because they they their reading of the book because of the

37:10

archaeologist who was one of the four that have opened the other he hears them

37:15

reading this book and they must not read from them and that conjures The Mummy

37:21

essentially how can you not see that as a second act not a midpoint laughs

37:26

oh like I I I I don't see that as a midpoint at all so but to your point

37:33

James or not to your point but I guess to argue against your point all the boat fun and game stuff and the the racing to

37:39

the city that's all set up if this is yeah that's really fun setup man well I think

37:47

you're gonna get a lot of that I I I I think the whole movie is basically a whole series of fun and games yeah

37:52

essentially but but but but they are Crossing into the the they're crossing

37:58

the threshold like there's a very literal threshold but they're Crossing from their Ordinary World into the

38:04

strange new world of Hump yay even if you Market from EVS you know her Arc

38:10

right she's a librarian now she's going on this big Journey so it's still a break from her normal you know it's

38:17

stasis right so Staples equals Death so she's no longer stuck being a librarian she expires for more she needs fueled

38:23

experience I think she says that now she's going out into the field so it's still sure point though once they

38:28

resurrect that mummy that that is a significant Strange New World up to that

38:34

point yes agreed up to that point it's archeology it's research it's Benbrook Scholars okay but now you've got the

38:41

mummy walking around but this so I could see that the stakes are raised

38:46

tremendously because on the boat ride the Americans in O'Connell they don't hate each other they're just racing

38:52

there's no ill Wills they're not fighting the Americans so they're just and then now all of them once the book

38:59

is read all of them are now in the crap the the stakes Stakes are raised at the

39:05

midpoint sure but yes I'm with you I think it's a midpoint that part is the midpoint

39:11

because I'm thinking it's after because like so say the moment you say there was no because there's this debate in the

39:16

movie about you know whether there's really something there and there's ghosts and mummies and all this extra [ __ ] does that exist right yeah so

39:22

let's say it didn't and the mummy doesn't happen you they could have made just a fun movie of these two rival you

39:28

know diggers like doing doing stuff right I mean and say there's more and more booby traps right that they'd have

39:34

to try to figure out and then it becomes almost a uh uh you know I guess it's still kind of an old police maybe but

39:39

anyhow like a race to the to the treasure like which team gets the can survive the movie traps and get the treasure without like if you took the

39:45

mummy thing out of it right so so yeah I think the mummy coming in that's where the horror aspects come in but because

39:50

that's to me it brings mainly after uh midpoint as bad guys close in All Is Lost so they're yeah he starts you know

39:57

tearing them up after that you know because he got all the jars he's now whole yeah and that was after the

40:03

midpoint just just throwing that out did anyone pause it I didn't pause it to see like what

40:10

time um I know we do that sometimes because I mean where would you have him getting all the jars and become that whole where just reading the book and

40:17

now him coming back slimy the plagues and him getting all the jars and like stalking them that that is my bad guys

40:23

yes oh they're all running away at that point and yeah I have first chance more bugs Evie meets The Mummy Benny

40:30

meets The Mummy Mr Burns has to give more another plague blood Brimstone

40:35

cat's rule that's all well I'm sorry I've crossed into yeah that's back inclusion yes yeah I have up to that

40:42

point as the bad guys because Evie getting captured by The Mummy to resurrect and knocks on the moon is my

40:48

All Is Lost right because if she's the Beast story and he loves you know yes I have right I would agree with that Evie

40:53

is the sacrifice but I have it as a false victory all his lost false Victory because Evie

40:58

is this they they she's going to be the sacrifice okay that's bad but that could help us it buys us time to figure out

41:04

how to kill him because now as long as they keep Evie away from The Mummy they have time yeah I have it as a

41:10

foster fee because I guess what is your what is your midpoint false Victory like finding the sarcophagus like before they

41:15

unleash him like that's it's a false Victory because they they got to the treasure first which was the whole point right because all these guys are here

41:21

doing this they didn't know they were about to unleash this mummy and and get all screwed up or whatever right all

41:26

three of us are all over the map on this because you have a defeat the defeat the person James

41:33

I mean I mean honestly that's really early I would think that is definitely not

41:39

halfway at the midpoint no no I'm saying this movie like essentially it's fun and games

41:47

now you have to go in about 25 minutes into the movie so that's about 15 minutes early maybe I think it probably probably would

41:54

be early or certainly not where we would expect it because to your point there's a lot of good fun set pieces in the bad

42:00

guys closing because I mean him stocking them is a lot of fun right and getting the the jars that's all bad my favorite

42:05

scenes in the movie where he's scared of the cat and then later O'Connell brings in the cat hey you know

42:11

and right that whole the the two cat scenes or something like a cat person so I'd like yeah but that's the battle once

42:18

he becomes regenerated he's not his cats have no effects right that's only going to be

42:24

until he becomes yes yeah so so your midpoint is when it becomes fully yes he

42:29

has Unstoppable at the half point and that would be a defeat a foster feed yeah false defeat for the for our main

42:37

characters false victory for the so you're to the Lost false Victory with Evie you're thinking the same thing as

42:43

James is now they can use it as a a Time by time to to defeat him yeah okay like

42:49

now he's full he has Evie All Is Lost type of thing yeah yeah but we're

42:55

getting way ahead no no well yeah because uh so none of us agree on the midpoint

43:02

which is fine because I think it's I think it's a lot of fun games to be honest with you and I why do they read

43:07

the book again like he was just reading it she had the key she well she doesn't believe in any of this Holcomb she even

43:13

calls it no that's right they talk about it because that always annoyed me like I hate when characters like and she probably knowing

43:21

I don't want to say I hate when character [ __ ] up I'm trying to figure out how to explain it like the whole movie happens because they made a bad choice like they should have known

43:27

better yeah that annoys me and I love this movie but the noise when that happened they do the pull the same thing in the new Ant-Man movie like they mess

43:35

around with the Quantum realm and end up going you know getting sucked down there was their own

43:40

damn fault like movies like this that make us think that way yes what are you doing didn't you see this movie that's

43:45

what happens yeah yeah you don't invent AI because if you seen Terminator exactly yeah nothing's been a whole lot

43:50

of time again love this movie it just I was like ah why are they doing it but she she Prides herself Benbrook scholar

43:56

a scholar and they talked about it how she did not believe any of that stuff so yeah it's perfectly fine with her reading it now because I don't believe

44:02

that I can read this and nothing's gonna happen well can I this is just occurring to me what would have happened if she'd

44:08

read the book and they didn't open that sarcophagus I mean he would have come

44:13

back I'm sure he still would have popped the lot probably no because you use they use a lot to open it up but he's super

44:19

powerful by then well he's been resurrected I don't know so how powerful

44:24

he is because he's got to but he can take lies at that point so I was just curious and this is called fourth

44:31

plagues this is me being uh me um when she reads the book is it the the

44:37

act of reading the book is it the act of reading it out loud how fast do you have to read it and if you read it like a

44:42

first grader would that still well I think it was the curse it's an incantation like she's summoning right

44:47

so yeah but but if I was something like if you were like a first graders you're coming back kind of slow does Jonathan

44:54

who's leading the incantation to raise the Army and he forgets the last word yeah he's [ __ ] it yeah but there's

45:00

this big pause how quick do you have to read it is what I'm saying it's like the I don't think it matters I don't think it matters because Jonathan if there's a

45:06

big disorder right there's a big gap between what Jonathan reads and that last word yeah I don't think what is

45:12

this it's a penguin it's a bird and then and then she gives oh I see it yeah yeah and what if you have like any reason it

45:18

happens that's a Scottish accent and you're kind of mumbled or you Mumble your words yeah what if you were like

45:23

what are the rules what if you're the boom operator for we on the night and you couldn't understand anything anybody was saying right I'm like what are the

45:29

rules of basically reading incantations to raise the dead is what I mean I don't know I mean I think it's just now we're

45:34

gonna pick a little bit but yeah to your point maybe it should have been in a certain in a certain language right

45:41

in that well she said she oh you're right how do I keep you around Egyptian no you're right I had it in my

45:48

well she read it but then she was saying it out loud in English it wasn't subtitled right no she was saying this I

45:54

think she was saying in different words yeah and Jonathan does too yes because he's he's trying to manifest or whatever

46:00

he says yeah it looks like a bird uh you know a historic the story and then she

46:06

gives him the word and then right sorry so all those words remembering it wrong then okay are sort of bang that's weird

46:11

I was remembering and it's like it goes in the bank and now it happens so yeah so if you read it out of order no powers

46:17

it has to be read in order I don't think so yeah it's like a magic spell yeah in order

46:26

who was the power of the things yeah the guys because the The Mummy was telling

46:31

those things to go kill but as soon as Jonathan read it the incantation he had

46:37

the power yes no no anyway that was just me being me I no no well I was thinking the same

46:43

thing about well what if they hadn't opened them I mean it's like who goes around open and if you knew the words

46:48

did you have to read it out of the book you just well I don't think she knew because the the whole it's all hailed as

46:57

mythology this hominoptera and the the head librarian says it's just something that Arabs tell their children you know

47:04

a scary story right so I don't know that she certainly didn't believe but I don't know that all of the implications of

47:10

this mythology were known even right because they didn't know where the even the city was I'm just saying the

47:15

Egyptians when they buried this fellow yeah shouldn't have wrote down the instructions that is true yeah why do I have a book

47:23

on how to bring him back yeah don't open the book well don't make the book exactly but I'm a librarian I'm gonna

47:30

open books uh I've been out here yet uh this this movie is a vehicle to deliver

47:37

adrenaline and funny line yeah don't take this as any hate for this no no I absolutely love this one

47:45

but she she she desperately wants to be a bedbrook scholar and so any opportunity I think

47:51

it fits in with her character she would read it because she wants to show that she can read ancient Egyptians she tells

47:57

the head librarian well why do I keep you around well you know I read it no yeah

48:02

you're forgetting the other line is your parents were our biggest donors right exactly but she that's why she you know

48:09

and later take that Benbrook Scholars because they had snubbed her and she right so you know I think I think if

48:15

anything if you're calling that part A Monster in the house her sin is pride of uh you know you know and now she

48:21

conjures this thing that she didn't even believe in but she believes in herself you know whatever

48:27

um yeah I I guess I didn't have a problem with that as far as that goes damn yes I mean it's mummy so it's

48:33

definitely it's gonna be a monster in the house right we didn't really talk about that too much right the genre I almost wanted to call it like a golden

48:39

fleece all right I didn't do it feels more like a golden fleece but but if it's a monster in the house

48:44

the monster starts uh messing with people around the break-in too right to James's point

48:50

wait who are we talking about here right well most monster in the house

48:56

structures the monster shows up for the breaking Tunes he's been saying the whole time the

49:02

breaking news when Mummy shows up when he's you know gets Unleashed or whatever we're calling it a midpoint until it's a

49:08

break all right I'll just just whatever you want to say it I'm ready to hear it

49:14

we skipped a little bit the the Mad Magi yeah they they attacked the group first

49:20

and the group was like hey let's let's pull our resources tonight the one American guy yeah and then that's when

49:27

Evie reads the book and everything else yeah she's she steals it from the one of the doctors oh in the warden we

49:34

skipped the warden uh and a good fun and games bit with the scarabs going inside his body and he kills himself yes yes

49:40

and that dude Stacy looked it up he's still alive I don't know how because he runs into that [ __ ] wall in real life it was a

49:46

padded one did it give like it had to be bad at all because I rewounded and slowed it down and tried to look at it

49:51

and it looks like he hits that damn wall with his head man I was like talking about stunts that hurt I'm like this guy yeah that's crazy

49:58

that was a fun bit and the uh the effects on the scarabs still looked pretty good to me oh yeah there's places

50:04

where it's like all right there's 19.99 in the effects but well um it was great yeah my whole thought the whole time is

50:11

uh bugs yeah that's pretty good one yeah

50:16

that's good stuff all right so at this point I don't know where we are uh bad guys close in are we

50:23

what do we call that the I have it the first chapter that's on Whose beat you're falling so Evelyn reads the book

50:29

uh uh and then the entire group gets separated into little groups because

50:35

locusts are coming I have the the the beginning of the bad

50:40

guys close in I have is the first chest opener I guess Mr Burns who has bad Vision loses his glasses and gets his

50:46

eyes and tongue taken it's sort of where I that's what you want to do you want to take a guy with bad eyes and yeah I

50:52

thought about that dude he takes his eyes out of all the people yeah that's what Sherry said I'm like well if I'm that guy and my vision is that bad I got

50:59

10 pair of glasses in my pocket at all times just you know the mummy doesn't know anything about glasses right didn't

51:05

the money the guy who's yeah if Phil's saying the the guy should have had Mr burn should have had more than one pair

51:10

of glasses oh my God we're saying the mummy took a guy so the moment should have [ __ ] Vision we're wearing glasses

51:15

the rest of the [ __ ] movie that's what I'm saying yes you know what I mean yeah we did question that last night

51:20

yeah because I was like oh well he takes his no he takes his tongue because he's got bad eyes but then he took both of

51:26

them yeah he's just he's absorbing him yeah yeah to replenish yeah but that was my thought just like why are you taking

51:32

his eyes you took my eyes yeah because he sucks their fluids to get no

51:37

rejuvenate regenerate yeah I was thinking well maybe he just took his eyes to get rejuvenated and they're his

51:43

own eyes but if he he's missing his eyes I don't know yeah we're starting to pick

51:48

this thing apart because he doesn't continue to take parts off the others he sucks the rest

51:54

of them dry yes only this guy got spared in a way why did he suck him dry at least for now because he ends up going

52:00

back to him and finishing him off yeah because Rick comes in before he could finish the job and yells at the mummy

52:07

and then yeah you're right you're right as part as one of my bad guys yeah

52:12

that's right that's right because yeah Benny says of the meeting yeah and the dude sitting right next to the moment

52:18

has no idea because he can't [ __ ] call for help or see him now at this point that must be paid

52:25

so pathetic and sorry for this guy you know yeah when he falls and he's

52:30

bringing glasses and he's you know they did the whole blurry vision thing and he's feeling around uh I'm pretty sure

52:35

every time we watch this movie Stacy goes that would be you babe sure but like appreciate it if I'm going to Egypt

52:41

on Expedition I got a satchel full of glasses maybe he did too they were just out at the camp they're all me at all

52:47

times there's no way Evie's looking at all that stuff she got she said where are all these glasses or I'm wearing prescription goggles

52:54

where they won't fall off I don't there's no way I have Evie meets the bunny mummy and Benny meets The Mummy I I did like this

53:01

exchange between Benny and The Mummy as he's the whole different religions yeah yeah and then you know almost you know

53:07

sort of a call back to uh Moses and and the Egyptians of the slaves the language I thought that was cool yeah sort of a

53:15

nod to history almost as much as yeah Raiders you know yeah like I may have use for you whatever yeah so she really

53:21

likes a party no he tries different ones and different languages yeah that's like Ricky Bobby he's covering his bases yeah

53:27

save me Tom Cruise you know yeah they go to see Mr Burns he has to give more of it very sad pathetic uh they

53:34

would get the plague of blood the water turned the blood in Brimstone and I

53:39

guess he's talking to Evie and it's going to take her at that point when the cat shows up and drives him away so he

53:45

doesn't get Evie yeah right away and I have casserole I love that I love cats

53:50

and I I still cheer every time I say I can't do that anyway yes somewhere in there is also the bit where they're

53:55

they're putting clothes he puts clothes in the suitcase and she takes take them out yeah back and forth yeah yeah that's

54:00

fun uh yes yes absolutely side gang is very cool all right so I have again we're

54:08

going to disagree on this I have always lost at this point after this first cat scene where the cat drives him away from

54:14

Evie All Is Lost false victory again I said Evie is meant to be the

54:19

sacrifice and they know this and it'll buy them buy them some time I.E false Victory but we all see that differently

54:25

you have a false defeat I do yeah because I mean here's this guy running around sucking people dry and stuff right and then now he's taking her like

54:31

you know nothing's good is going to happen to her like and Rick's upset about it I'll be seeing you again yeah yeah like this false defeat like all the

54:38

way all right now the bad guy is taking the girl you know okay everybody likes Evie gotta save the librarian sure uh

54:46

now when she shows uh I don't remember it's earlier Rachel Weis very uh not ugly woman but

54:54

when she shows up in that in the Black Veil and oh yeah she looks great she's got a great face

55:01

great eyes but it's also exotic and just yeah you know anyway whatever the guy

55:07

the guy that plays James Bond what's his name Daniel Craig Daniel Craig they're married correct oh well he did well very

55:12

lucky guy yes I didn't care if she was wearing she could wear whatever yes or nothing right which one is is he

55:21

is he in the um the latest bonds the one that's in the

55:27

knives out yes okay yeah I didn't know I did not know that Benoit Blanc yes so so

55:34

still under all his lost false Victory well I was lost zombie Hotel minions you

55:40

know the the slaves of immotep now and then hitching a ride and so all the uh oh yeah we could play a little bit well

55:47

first just Mr Burns he gets it there's four chest openers right the ones that open the Mr Burns has got it here uh

55:54

yeah there's three Americans right and then uh and then the doctor what are the Flies the second opener gets it go get

56:01

me yeah I gotta get me some Bourbon and then he gets it and then forget your damn bourbon yeah so he gets it there and then I guess the guy getting the

56:07

bourbon gets it very quickly also uh he's about to go for Evie I guess and

56:12

Brendan Fraser barges in cats rule again you know they escape and then so the the

56:18

villagers have become millions of immotep you know IMO tap and they get away in the car and the best opener gets

56:25

it you're referencing Jonathan when he runs out there and sees him and sir that's the second part of them I

56:30

remember my dad's laughing at yeah uh so very quickly the remaining the four chest openers are

56:36

taken and I have all this as sort of the All Is Lost and before we get to The

56:42

Dark Knight James this is all set up for you is that right definitely

56:48

no because you're skipping just a little bit they're getting more uh more story about what they can do because the the

56:55

gold book of almond raw is discovered that maybe they can kill him yeah the gold book yeah instead of the black book

57:01

because again they were in the wrong spots they were switched so they thought they had the one book they didn't they

57:06

had the wrong book right so they deduce and now they've got that's where the third Act is the storm the castle is to

57:13

go get the gold book All Is Lost is when Evie gets stolen that's yeah I have I have the Dark Knight of the Soul she

57:19

gives them a plan now she's stolen yeah I have my Dark Knight as when she is taken so yeah okay All Is Lost is that

57:27

what well the Dark Knight of the Soul was the lowest point in the movie typically yeah that would be that okay

57:32

all right and then I have my break for the the darkness so uh it mirrors the debate beat like it's there the

57:40

characters debate about all right this horrible thing just happened almost lost or whatever yeah dig them down dig deep down you know what do I do to break into

57:47

right they make a decision to break into into three so like debate and Dark Knight are both you know the character

57:53

making a decision to you know go you know go one way or the other to break into the next ACT yes right they can't

57:59

be dragged into it or forced into it they have to act on their own yeah I

58:04

have down the manhole to the third act like at that point they've lost the car I guess in their oh yeah yeah that's where I'd have the third act too Brenda

58:10

Frazier takes it it goes down the manhole covers Dallas right in there because the next one is they're going to

58:15

the pilot to get him to fly him there yeah gathering with the race back to hominopter yes third act and then the

58:22

hominopter is the castle yes where do you have your break into three Chris them flying into the which I guess to

58:29

y'all's point that is after Gathering of the team which doesn't add up but yeah him they fly into the third act with

58:35

Winston yeah I have that as okay yeah I can see that because I have that as Gathering the team they get they

58:40

get Winston The Bodyguard the brother and O'Connell are all on the plane yeah

58:46

yes yeah so that's that's essentially it how you doing so third act yeah we all agreed on that

58:52

okay so right around there yeah it's like it's like the two teams in the movie you know they we both got there it

58:58

was just very different Stacy did notice something though um and when they're they're being chased

59:03

by the the zombie you know amateur slaves or whatever right and they're all jumping on the car and all that they end

59:09

up crashing that car right into some water barriers or something I don't remember how bad the I didn't really want to go back and see how bad the car

59:15

has crashed yeah but they definitely get out and run on foot and then that's how when she gets captured and they have to

59:20

escape in the manhole right yeah I'll be seeing you again yeah yeah they drive that same car over to Winston's like in

59:27

the desert yeah I did not know that or it's a car looks just like it with the same color sure I assume it's the same car yeah well they sell cars differently

59:33

back in the day oh yes I assume but that means that you had to wait underground yeah okay I think

59:39

they're gone and they go back up there to the surface or whatever well they probably didn't already noticed it seen a thousand

59:45

dollars stationed I was like oh [ __ ] that is the SIM card they probably got down there like [ __ ] which way do we go it's dark

59:53

yeah no this this movie is moving from one fun and game to the next and

::

storm in the castle of the Tomb and the undead Warriors high tower surprise well you forgot Winston you know going down

::

yes or Winston's Last Ride he wants to die yeah that Sandstorm was always really cool like when I played all the

::

trailers yes yeah that was like this is what CG like this is a good use of GTI

::

yeah no I think I still hold on it was so early on in the CGI thing yeah no

::

that's still look good yeah yeah so what is what is Benny's line right after I left the whole face in the storm thing

::

bastards yeah yeah he just called him bastards

::

he's on whoever his team is yeah that's good though that's that part made me laugh your words give me courage you

::

know um okay so there's

::

the undead Warriors high tower surprise I have is they have they have the book The Gold book I guess which will be able

::

to kill him but Imhotep has the key in his robe pocket or whatever yeah right yeah so if there is a dig deep down I'm

::

pegging it as they have to finish they have to control the new Army and finish the inscription and there's this big

::

struggle to finish the it's reading the inscription to get yeah just real quick completely forgot um and uh Stacy

::

noticed it way back when when he kills the doctor right yeah out on the street yes um when he stands up and he's got

::

his robe on and they just show him walk away as the uh the Flies or whatever start to attack everybody yeah she knows

::

that on the back of his robe like the way the the folds and the kind of the it's a tattered rope yeah his mummy face

::

is on the back of his robe really it's real small like it's I mean it's hard to say it's not intentional because it

::

looks like his the same face you see in the sand or whatever but it's she knows lately so we're going back and Rewind it

::

and there it is I mean it's kind of small but it's again it looks so much like the the face you see in the sand

::

it's hard to say it's not it's actually crazy yeah I never noticed that yep notice that one

::

no um back to big struggle with the the gold book and yeah a new plan uh I have

::

killed emotep and his girlfriend read the book they they call the Chariots uh which they think kills him but it simply

::

turns Immortal which then allows vets yeah that's way toward I mean that's right at the end though yeah okay uh I

::

have this so because he has to fight all those skeleton dudes and so first right

::

deep down trying to control the new Army these skeleton dudes but he has to finish the inscription to do that yeah

::

and he doesn't know what that word is so he's talking to Evie so there's this big delay well Brent because she was saying

::

like he's gonna have them all killed before they finish that inscription you know right um I said disassembled disassembled yeah

::

because they're already dead sure yeah so so this there was this whole are these beats solid I don't think they

::

are as far as the new plan and the Hightower surprise and all that with the Hightower surprise be when um

::

uh Jonathan's reading the book and he raises the guards instead of fighting

::

emotep would that be the surprise it has to be a setback and that is definitely a setback yeah because now they're having

::

to deal with armed guards yes these uh because emotep is able to use them yeah yeah that's probably it yeah he even

::

Smiles then he reads it the mummy looks up and he's like yeah thanks yeah it is yeah because the whole goal is to get

::

the book and the book will kill him and first thing he reads creates gives him back a henchman yeah gives him a backup

::

yeah yeah yeah I have high tower of surprise to have the book but nematop has the key but then right after that

::

control the new Army so that's probably it because that that would be the setback so the new plan would be to try

::

to control these yeah try to control the new army yes okay and that's when he starts Evie what's this and what's this

::

that makes sense James you're on fire today man thanks

::

ah my Wheaties that I ate this morning sure uh I called the death Uber I thought I'd been a while since I've seen

::

this so I thought this was them killing him but it's not yeah the Chariot that carries him away we think he'll get over

::

it right the spirit the spirit Uber yeah uh it doesn't kill him it makes it because and and I guess he thinks he's gonna die

::

but then he comes back and he's like aha but he doesn't at that point know he's mortal yeah because he runs right into

::

the listener swords right into it but he knows even knows uh I thought we killed him no it just made him mortal she you

::

know she as a scholar she knows that I have a colonel takes a stab at it and does and Benny gets his comeuppance

::

which I'm glossing over that whole earlier you know Evie's like nasty little boys like you always do

::

yeah because somebody obviously when you're in a Ancient Temple and the bad

::

guy dies the temple then has to crumble sure so I forget who it was but somebody

::

was it Benny this Vinnie he said to his thing no he sets his sack of yeah on the

::

lever like his third sack of us you know he could have been out of there everyone with a camel full of gold yep if the

::

Edmonds are greedy you know well that must have been like his last like trip because he had already taken out all

::

this gold no this guy was in the clear right it was green again yes greedy little greedy boy who's gonna get his

::

comeuppance yeah I like how they do all those shots though in movies um because like in the ceilings coming down like I

::

love the shots they get in all these movies and this one did it really well like it it does not look like they're going to make it no you know what I mean

::

like at all yeah Sherry what's going on about claustrophobia yeah well then when when Benny was walking down into the the

::

treasure area I was like he's gonna get crushed right yes before he's it's crawling yeah yeah oh no that that was

::

done very well give me give me your hand ready

::

that was fine this little torch goes out pretty damn quick man yes and you hear them

::

Castleberry love found luck turned a little treasure thanks Benny so that's Zoe's closing image you know not alone

::

his luck is turned right off they go into the sunset into the sunset literally which I never got why would

::

you ride off into the sunset you're just gonna have to stop and make Camp sure

::

when the Sun goes down well we've got maybe an hour and a half of travel time maybe yeah but you look good walking

::

away from an explosion you look good riding toward the sunset right sure just doesn't make any sense yeah who's

::

watching I don't know in the desert yeah and the desert can become like oh closing oh yeah it's symbology James

::

okay yeah symbology symbolism very good you picked it up you're good good you picked it up um

::

thanks uh the sun's setting on their Adventure man okay this is James podcast

::

from now we lost Xbox today hey you know uh it's cool no he's you

::

nailed it uh it is one of my favorite movies like I said it was one of the movies that I think is perfect I've probably seen this one up there with any

::

other movie I've seen a ton of times like this is yeah so so yeah I mean we and fun pick it apart but this movie is

::

a fun fun ride that you will feel good watching every time you watch it yeah

::

cool lines well delivered it's just it it holds up so well I think so the fact

::

that this was 1999 this 24 year old movie yeah I challenge you to find

::

another movie from back then that holds up this like this one does because they're few and far between not saying

::

there's none but no no but but just uh yeah it's it's a hearken back to the old

::

serial films you know yeah like like Indiana is you know right you know I

::

hope the new Indiana Jones is is as fun as this one was sure hopefully yeah I doubt it but hopefully right

::

anything else uh not this movie ready for our past consider yeah

::

[Music]

::

this was your pick James so you want to start us off uh yeah this is a strong uh what's what's the right word I guess

::

consider recommend I recommend this one this one you should own you should watch it the second one the third one the

::

second one's pretty good it add kind of adds on to this but there's a few squishy Parts third one has nothing to

::

do with mummies but this one is awesome I can put this one on it's a background movie it is a

::

sit with a family and watch it it's a sit by yourself and watch it it's enjoyable yeah this is definitely a recommend for me as well um hey I don't

::

know what else I can say it's a big fun movie um like I said kind of at the top of this uh they don't I don't feel like

::

they make movies like this anymore um so yeah they do but it's just everybody's wearing a cape now you know I know yeah yeah but they're it's funny

::

this is a side track and I don't want to interrupt but there is definitely I think the the the

::

being fed up with superhero movies is starting to bleed into society now like I've seen more and more comments and

::

thoughts expressed about yeah I mean not another damn yes uh the sequel to Shazam

::

Fury the God just yeah just tank to the box office and it just came out so yeah I feel like this could be the the

::

hopefully the beginning of it um because yeah I'm I'm definitely marveled out and yeah oh it's kind of tired of superhero

::

movies and yeah I wish they would make you know make more movies like like this one like the mummy yeah or at least take

::

a little bit of I don't know take some chances yeah because this movie right here on paper

::

Brendan Fraser wasn't gigantic at this time yeah it was a Gamble and it really

::

paid off I'd like to see more people gamble on that 80 million and they made 400 million right you know two more sequels plus The Scorpion King movies

::

yes and if you factor in like you did with the night we own the night the

::

rentals I bet it does equally as much I bet it made a billion dollars when it's all

::

said and done could be you know yeah because I'm sure I own this on DVD and then Blu-ray and then now I own it 4K

::

three damn times I know we have it on on DVD or Blu-ray and I think we got it on discount on streaming I think we went on

::

yeah or maybe not I can't remember button room anyway yeah anything else I didn't mean to drop yeah sure oh I

::

highly recommend I remember us going to see it in the um theaters you know it's

::

one of those that you you've got to get to the theater but

::

um to me it combines everything it's it's it's a comedy it's action it's

::

horror yeah it's almost yeah it's romance it's it's a little bit of

::

everything yeah it's like an epic tale and it's nothing it's not a brain Bender

::

no it's not anything it's better than a popcorn movie like it it's just a solid

::

movie all the way around yeah yeah and anytime I see I'm not I'm I'm not into slasher movies that are just yeah gory

::

but anytime you see something scary but you add a lot of humor to it well it's

::

these few yeah yeah and there's a lot of humor I just laugh throughout the whole every damn day

::

so he delivers it so fast you know yeah timing is perfect yeah the timing is perfect on this movie The yeah I mean it

::

hits man everybody is so fun even like a guy like Benny who is so despicable I

::

just love every single Benny in it you know Kevin J O'Connor he's the guy that played Benny yeah he's good in most everything he's done yeah because you

::

know a lesser actor wouldn't sell that like that you know right right he's able to sell that role as just a pure

::

opportunist and you don't hate him no but you hate him he's right you know they're holding up the different like

::

even with his spiritual Soul he's like gambling uh whatever he don't believe in that [ __ ] but does this work does work

::

this work what is [Laughter]

::

oh yeah Holly I absolutely recommend I mean this it's just a fun movie and not

::

you know normally you wouldn't take the time to even question anything you just along for the ride and it's fun uh you

::

know yeah there's not too much big stuff in this like it to pick apart yeah

::

there's there's stuff in every movie obviously that you can pick apart but yeah well and and you're so even if

::

there are squishy points you're so forgiving because it's delivering you so much entertainment value you know uh

::

anyway uh yeah so highly recommends that's four recommends this is this is

::

good nice I'm glad I picked it absolutely anything else no okay that is the mummy

::

and we are out man for you guys being so sure that I'm wrong your your points are

::

pretty wobbly yeah I don't know if I'm right but I know you're wrong

::

you could probably make a case of that because because this person James is like you guys are

::

[ __ ] screw you guys aren't you getting the beach right I mean honestly the Egyptians when they buried

::

this fella yeah shouldn't have wrote down the instructions that is true that's like Ricky Bobby

::

he's covering his bases yeah James you're on fire today man thank you

::

give me your hand ready goodbye this is James podcast from now

::

[Music] we like Xbox today the monster starts uh messing with

::

people around the break-in too right to James's point huh wait who are we talking about here

Philip McClimon

Profile picture for Philip McClimon
Philip A. McClimon is an author who likes to write about the end of the world (post apocalyptic, Sci/Fi), mostly because he thinks the shopping would be awesome (No crowds, everything free). He likes heroes that are the strong, silent type and not necessarily male. By silent he means up until the time there is something snarky to say, usually before, during, and after doing something cool.

He writes Urban Fantasy under the name Billy Baltimore for no other reason than that he likes the name. Many of the same rules for his other stories apply to Billy’s, strong silent types, smart mouth, does cool stuff, but these stories take place in a made up town called Hemisphere and involve stuff you only ever hear about on late night conspiracy talk show podcasts, which are, if you think about it, pretty awesome too.

So, that's Phil. He's not strong, rarely silent, and isn't known for doing a lot of cool things.

But his characters are.

Sherry McClimon
