Self Destruct
Discussing Richard Dreyfus' Controversial Comments and Media Choices
The episode begins with a discussion about Richard Dreyfus' recent controversial remarks during a Q&A session for the movie 'Jaws'. The conversation highlights his surprising comments about Steven Spielberg and Barbara Streisand, as well as his problematic views on women and race. The hosts express disappointment and speculate on whether age or sensitivity to modern 'woke' culture could be factors. The discussion then shifts to the challenges of media consumption, including struggles with the overwhelming number of entertainment choices and a decline in the perceived quality of movies and TV shows. The hosts reflect on how societal changes impact media representation and express mixed feelings about the current state of the entertainment industry.

[:[00:00:09] Sherry: No, I haven't heard. Yeah,
[:[00:00:11] Sherry: really like him.
[:[00:00:16] Chris: Yeah. You know,
[:[00:00:36] Phil: Yeah. I can't quite understand that. Uh, but then he went on to, uh, Say that when like, I guess he had a movie with Streisand or whatever, he said, I never listened to her 'cause she was a woman and a woman shouldn't have any of that power, you know? And it just got worse from there. Yeah, it just got worse from there.
[:[00:00:56] Chris: racist things. Yeah. And
[:[00:00:59] Chris: he is in one of [00:01:00] my huge snowball of mess. Absolute
[:[00:01:02] Phil: Holland's Opus. Right. And I'd never. Heard him ever have these opinions before so I don't know if he is just totally gone again You know, like he's totally angry by the woke culture and decided to go the other way.
[:[00:01:18] Sherry: Nuts, maybe he's just having issues He is an older gentleman, yeah, yeah, but just maybe his give a fuck is gone and that's just who he is [00:01:30]
[:[00:01:31] Chris: way the whole time because I don't know which I mean, but yeah, I think I don't have a lot of experience but I feel like age could be part of it right as far as just like seeing the world use the world being a Certain way and then now like you said with you know, what culture and different things coming along because like my My father in law won't watch a movie based off when it was made.
[:[00:02:13] Chris: And then now you watch a movie and there are cell phones, like if these things are more, if it's more socially acceptable. Right? To, for different, you know, to be gay or whatever it is, right? Like, those things have always been there. But if it's more socially acceptable to express yourself however that is,
[:[00:02:27] Chris: Then that's going to show up in movies. [00:02:30] Of course it is. That's representing society. Absolutely. Like, that's representing truth, right? So, anyhow. But it's just, like, I don't know, that's just really sad to me that, granted, we've talked a lot about movies, older movies being, you know, maybe better than now, but just to say, I'm not watching any show or any movie because it was made after a certain date?
[:[00:02:51] Sherry: Yes. A lot of stuff, you know, but honestly, clearly that's his stance. But honestly, the older I get, the less I watch anything . Well, I've, I've got to where I [00:03:00] will get on my phone. I don't even hardly watch the news, except for this past weekend.
[:[00:03:04] Phil: whatever. We're not getting into that. I know.
[:[00:03:19] Phil: to a ball game. I, I think the quality is going way down where I'm less attracted to.
[:[00:03:37] Chris: Well,
[:[00:03:57] Chris: Oh, that's interesting. You said that because you had to say tonight we [00:04:00] run the lot. Like we'll be looking for, Hey, let's watch a movie tonight versus a TV show. And then, yeah, well she gets annoyed because You know, I'm looking at trailers for each different thing, checking it out, trying to decide. And like you said, holy shit, a fucking hour's gone by.
[:[00:04:16] Sherry: I know. He'll, he'll put the ball game on and I'm sitting there on my phone.
[:[00:04:21] Sherry: I'm fine. I'm, I'm,
[:[00:04:24] Sherry: I, I think it's the, you're right. Too many choices.
[:[00:04:30] Sherry: I do see a preview like that, we haven't seen the. What is it? The Fall Guy? What is it?
[:[00:04:38] Sherry: Now I want to see that. And there's um, What was the other trailer I shared?
[:[00:04:44] Phil: Yeah, Wolfs. Wolfs. Yeah, he was talking about that earlier. I want
[:[00:04:52] Chris: That's interesting. Yeah, so too many choices and then Yeah, because I don't know. There's Obviously, the box office is struggling right now, and I'm reading a lot of different articles about it, [00:05:00] and just people have these different theories, and yeah, I still think a lot of it goes back to tell stories people want to see.
[:[00:05:08] Sherry: on TMZ the other day, they were making fun of Uh, Hollywood just putting out part, I mean, um, episode, I mean, not episode. What is it? Um, sequels, you know, two, three, four, you know? Yeah. So anyway, all right. Good one. That was
[:[00:05:28] Sherry: Sorry. I know I [00:05:30] was like, I think I didn't finish my, a
[:[00:05:36] Phil: Go ahead.
