at this point in the movie I'm like okay well here's here's what you should have done and I'm thinking yeah right

0:05

one of my favorite openings ever and I've watched that alternate ending and it is garbage it doesn't go where you

0:13

think it's going to go there's a monster I am I'm ready for it to be oh well but

0:18

I'm not sure I can even fully uh explain why I love this movie so much I had some issues

0:26

my feelings on it have not changed I fell asleep until the screaming this

0:32

is actually where I started enjoying the movie this is one of my favorite scenes in all of Cinema

0:38

I thought that should have been cut well I'm sure it's artistic and you just

0:43

don't get it all right here we are Fellowship of the real season two doing sequels for our first episodes this time

0:50

we are doing Ghostbusters afterlife this is a pick by Sherry and we're going to get into that in just a minute uh but

0:56

first we want to do a little thing that Sherry is uh wanting to put us to the test to put our money where our mouth is

1:02

so to speak we quote movies all the time we tried this once and it went off pretty good so Shea wants to do it again we're gonna try to guess the line uh

1:10

that cherry has picked out for us we still haven't got a name for this so right now it's just Sherry's whatever

1:15

and we'll pick a name and anyway here's her bumper which now like I said we just need a name

1:21

foreign [Music]

1:28

all right y'all ready ready okay this one's kind of an old one so Philip this

1:34

might be up your ass oh okay damn awesome [Laughter]

1:42

here we go stop thinking let things happen and be

1:48

the ball oh that's a Caddyshack there you go be the ball you caught me be the girl all that other stuff before I know

1:54

but I can't just say be the ball I mean yeah have y'all seen Caddyshack oh yeah

2:00

once or twice or 700 I don't remember it a lot but yeah I've seen it okay that

2:06

that that's on the whole there you go see we kill all the goofers yeah well

2:11

the golfers there's a lot there's a lot of lines and

2:16

I know nothing when you like it right yeah um but I just thought maybe yeah no you

2:23

threw me a softball that's cool there you go appreciate it the other guys too they I knew they knew it I was like give

2:29

the old guy I didn't know that one oh okay I feel all right then all right

2:34

the next one is real easy but I hear it all the time what's in the box seven

2:40

yeah it's in a box yes I can't say it like that because that would

2:46

there you go all right and then this last one is

2:52

it's just a line I like I don't know that I don't know Philip you did know

2:58

this when I said it one time all right but it's been a long time so I don't

3:03

know if y'all will know this one or not but anyway I can't quote the very beginning of it

3:09

uh because he mentions the name he says I'm sorry and then mentions the name but then he says

3:14

I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought Ghostbusters yeah oh my

3:20

gosh who said it that would be Venkman no I'm

3:27

sorry Venkman Spindler yeah yeah and I thought that was appropriate because we are doing no that's true yeah

3:33

and I like that you brought that up because I'm gonna make a point about that later okay so yes and before we get

3:42

started on Ghostbusters I do think that we need to give a Sporter spoiler alert because

3:49

have talked about yeah it is:

3:55

21 yeah 21. so there may be people that haven't seen it and we talk about

4:01

everything yeah so it's been about a year a year and three or four months so

4:07

so watch it first but if you're a Ghostbusters fan and haven't seen this then so spoiler alert up front we're

4:14

gonna be talking about most everything so if you haven't seen it sure feel free to pause it and watch it or continue to

4:20

listen and enjoy it and watch it and enjoy it I don't know yeah there you go

4:25

thank you listener advisory so uh does someone have the yeah synopsis disorder

4:31

I have it okay it's short yeah I got one that's short but go ahead well it might it's probably the same thing well go

4:37

ahead well no I mean it's your movie but whatever uh in Ghostbusters afterlife when a single mom and her two kids

4:44

arrive in a small town they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and secret Legacy

4:50

their grandfather left behind that's pretty good yeah this uh uh has

4:57

some odd numbers in my opinion so according to I guess I knew a bumper but

5:03

yeah we'll we'll get into money critics fans [Music]

5:09

has some odd numbers okay so audience score is again uh like we talked about

5:14

with Star Trek 2. it has some what I'm calling aliens type numbers aliens is the highest scores I think maybe

5:19

Terminator two also 94 of the fans love the [ __ ] out of this movie 94 which is

5:27

basically everybody the six percent I can't even imagine but only 63 percent of the critics so there is this little

5:33

bit of a disparity between what the critics thought about this movie and what the fans did I don't know why the critics would call this 63 that seems

5:40

way low to me I don't know what they were wanting this delivers well we'll get into what I think about it at the end but yeah I don't understand those

5:46

scores why the critics would not be on board with the fans hmm yeah so I've

5:51

seen a lot of mixed reviews online as well uh how this is a good movie with a

5:57

lot of good fan service heartfelt fan service and then I've seen the other ones that are like they're squishy

6:03

points in it there's and of course we'll go into those things and I have a few squishy points myself so I would I'm not totally shocked by

6:11

that okay agreed oh wow who are you people all right all

6:16

right all right uh I mean I wrote them down in my notes if I had him here well I'm sure all that hate will bubble to

6:24

the service it will [Laughter] um this had a budget of I'm thinking yeah

6:30

75 75 million dollars budget and worldwide 204 million gross so

6:37

that's 129 million domestic 74 million uh International for a 204 million 334

6:45

455 dollar growth so it it killed it made his money back and then some

6:50

based on this 90 94 fan love critics don't fill the seats fans do so well I

6:57

think uh they're gonna make a sequel I know they're making uh I I think it goes back to the other sequel Ghostbusters

7:04

with Kristen Wiig yeah Melissa McCarthy I think that there was such a an opening

7:10

there was like people they wanted to fill a thing for Ghostbusters and they've put that movie out and kind of

7:16

missed hell yeah then this one got kind of revitalized let's use uh Ivan reitman's son yeah to direct it and put

7:24

some real effort into it I think they did a great job at that yes but I think that's why it was so successful is

7:29

because it hit those fan services really well uh it paid homage very well to the

7:35

original movie yes that's why it's successful I again I think to me this is

7:41

like a Terminator to me there are only two Ghostbusters movies the first one in this one I don't even like like I don't even like Ghostbusters too I like second

7:48

one yeah okay yeah I like the second one no up with that one no image homage is to the second one and nobody steps on a

7:54

church in my town sure yeah I think uh or is that the first one that's the first one first one yeah um I think

7:59

there you go is it this is that's right they're driving Liberty never mind yeah they're driving Liberty in the

8:05

second one sorry as you were James upcoming sequel is supposed to be Vigor uh what is Vigo I think yeah from the

8:13

second one yeah really yeah it feels like this well I mean I'll go see it I'll see it but that's just the rumors

8:20

that I had read online who knows yeah okay yeah uh because like I said no

8:26

homages to the second one at all no it's in the same universe they've confirmed that okay all right so the second one

8:32

did happen but they didn't really touch on it at all yeah because even I mean we'll get to this but even when they're

8:38

down in there in the in the the mine or whatever and they're looking at the Timeline they skip two I didn't even do

8:46

there because they referenced:

8:52

and there's no 89 granted I say they're skipping it but also like it's okay because Gozer wasn't involved in the

8:58

second one right so it's okay but yeah well but there's not a lot of references

9:04

the second one with two I didn't like how they brought any pots back with with

9:10

what's his name Louis Tully yeah yeah and um because she was crushing when he gone

9:15

pretty hard right yeah and then okay at the end of this one uh afterlife the

9:21

scene at after the credits with her with the coin was that in two because I don't

9:27

remember that scene at no that's either a cut scene from one or it was in two I don't remember damn my lucky coin you

9:33

forgot to watch all the uh all the stuff and oh we watched it yeah yeah when the credit score I think it's funny she says

9:38

my lucky coin well I can't take that well now I have another one you know I don't know yeah but I don't remember that scene but I've even seen that this

9:44

is with it with any parts it's in the ghost it's an afterlife as a yeah I saw the one with obviously with uh Bill

9:50

Murray and Sweeney Weaver and then I remember I just now we and that's where we cut it off yesterday but I know I

9:56

guess now I'm remembering I've seen one with Ernie Hudson where he's with the car yeah I missed the one with that much

10:01

yeah theater but I missed it now and it's Harold Ramis it's actually him back

10:07

in there okay no I've seen that yeah you're right okay yeah but I don't know this is a cut scene completely was it a

10:15

scene from one it feels right and it's a cut scene yeah it'd be a cut scene I've seen Ghostbusters the original one 70

10:21

times yeah because he died in:

10:27

but did they cut it from one I don't know we don't know if it's one or two I see what you're saying I mean I or was

10:33

it in two because I haven't watched two in Forever anyway anyway

10:40

yeah so that's money critics fans fans loved it critics uh but the box office uh it's slammed and they're gonna make a

10:45

sequel and I think that sequel is probably set up in into this with Ernie yeah very very end bringing the car back

10:51

to the fire station and I'm looking forward to it and the Box comes on yes the storage unit comes on yes that's

10:58

very cool all right we uh ready to do our beats sure sure [Music]

11:09

there you go all right so we can talk about this and I think this movie starts

11:15

off obviously with a prologue not an opening image because it's the car driving down the

11:20

road he's being chased yes Egon who we see in silhouette and Shadow I thought they did that very well the way they

11:26

agreed yeah they did a really good job by the hair you could tell the nose here you can tell that's him yeah without

11:31

being able to see his face very well so this is good and the music starts up too I noticed like the signature

11:36

Ghostbusters music as the Columbia uh Sony thing is coming on so before the movie even really begins you've got the

11:43

Ghostbusters music setting the mood already it was really good associate asked me I couldn't remember the one

11:48

with the the girls which I agree is way inferior did they use Ghostbuster music at all in that one don't know don't

11:54

recall I think I'm not sure what it helped but you know I don't know what that was all about it was a waste like when yeah Hemsworth's the best part of

12:01

that and he was the you know the Goofy character yeah even the car glasses

12:07

right I mean right if I remember even the car in the Ghostbuster movies with

12:13

Bill Murray is an ambulance isn't the one with the girls actually a

12:20

hearse yeah yeah I think so yeah because uh they changed well that's creative isn't it I thought it was always hers no

12:26

no no no it doesn't have ambulance yeah really yeah Oh I thought it was always and then this one too is an ambulance I

12:33

guess obviously because the same one why did I think it was a hers I always thought it was a hers I guess what I just thought it was funny

12:38

because they're chasing ghosts that car was what from the 50s yeah it's like a 50s ambulance yeah and then when

12:46

Rey gets it in the original Ghostbusters you know he pulls up needs shocks yeah transmission brakes 6 400 bucks

12:53

[Music] so this thing was a piece of junk then then Rey fixed it up I guess and now

13:00

he's stuck in a barn yes yeah which I thought the reveal I just thought it was very anyway yeah

13:05

we'll get into that yeah Egon attempts now now this was I didn't ever really think about it but Sherry pointed it out

13:12

so Egon has captured one of the minions of Gozer that like the gatekeeper or the or the key master one of them yeah

13:17

because they repeat the same Beats at the end yeah the kids where they're racing back to the farm it's it's all

13:23

the same yes which even holds out the the traps she did I am ashamed to admit I never even thought about it I don't

13:29

think I caught it till this time either and I've seen it a couple of times like realize okay yeah he's they're repeating they're doing it's just on board for the

13:34

ride oh go this is Ghostbusters and I didn't even think about the mechanics of it but yeah it he's got one of the and

13:40

he hides it so that the Gozer can't resurrect right well yeah I didn't catch it till last night because I was it

13:46

bothered me every time I watched it I'm like what is chasing him versus what's the other gatekeeper right yeah because

13:53

it's a dog and then when I saw it yeah yeah when I saw it I thought well that's what escaped but he's got it then it

14:00

occurred to me it was it's two of them I mean you know there are two what because she walks across the field okay yeah so

14:07

the so if he's got keymaster right for a sake of argument then it's the the gatekeeper is the one that knocks him

14:14

over into the cornfield and then goeser's the one that drop that steps onto the dirt yes Farm but the fog that

14:20

rolls in is that goes or is that a minion of Gozer one of the dogs because it looks like in the fog it looks like a

14:25

gatekeeper huh yeah [Music] yeah but she's clearly on the property

14:33

because it fails and then the dog or the fog rolls in and he dies having hidden

14:39

the yeah the Box the Box yeah yeah yeah because I'm I'm pretty sure why didn't

14:44

he just take him and turn him into it but they knew the other one anyways and he'd hidden it so yeah they need this the series just like we're fine [ __ ] you

14:50

I'm gonna kill you yeah yes all right yeah now very early on in this sequence so

14:55

the right and they talked about this the writers are the people who made this movie wanted to give the fans what they

15:01

wanted and so very early on you have all these almost stacked on top of each other all these homages right it's a

15:07

Nostalgia overload it is uh several callbacks to the original Ghostbusters you got shandor you got the ghost trap

15:13

you got the ghost detector Janine melnitz glasses the suits the proton packs the

15:19

Crunch bar spores molds and fungus and Who you gonna call no that's not all Twinkie in the glove box too Twinkie in

15:25

the glove box right so that's not all at once but a lot of those are in that opening sequence all these callbacks the

15:31

Crunch bar to me I had to remember that was such a deep I'm gonna take back everything I ever said about you he got

15:37

you deserved him a crush you deserved yeah uh yeah so when the trailer comes

15:43

you're going to call uh and the original commercial uh we're ready to believe you uh as well as footage of the final

15:49

scenes in the original you know she looks at the computer uh was it gruberson gives her the

15:55

history lesson oh yeah a teacher Paul Rudd yes uh yes so so I'm so no

16:01

references to the sequel and so like I said to me there are two movies Ghostbusters in this one I'll guess I'll

16:07

have to watch too if they're gonna make the next one based on two or whatever yeah maybe that was just the rumor I

16:13

read yeah no that makes sense uh since this prologue was was loaded and I I think they did Egon very well and it

16:19

sets everything up anything else about this opening sequence yeah I just I like the way it starts I mean look how it

16:25

starts you know just intense and oh yes you know that sets up the the level of

16:30

the villain and the yes you mean and then and something again I guess we're going to talk about stuff that we didn't maybe catch the first time Phil kind of

16:37

dumb wife made fun of me but after he I guess dies right yes he gone in the chair the the ghost detector I don't

16:44

know what you call it it's underneath the chair yeah it lights up after he's gone so the the gatekeeper whatever

16:49

comes he gets him kills him yeah and you see his hands they're not moving and then you see the thing light up that's I

16:55

guess the way I interpret it this time was that's detecting his ghost yeah yeah I completely missed that the first time

17:01

yeah no I thought no and that's when I first used throughout the whole movie to like find them and the mom used it too but completely missed until this time

17:07

I'll probably do it turns back on I'm like oh [ __ ] okay it's it's already registering that he's he's there as a ghost well that's what I had to resign

17:12

myself to thinking is because I was like man this ghost thing is over the top like he's you know involved with

17:19

manipulating objects around the room like the lamp and the whole thing yeah but then I had to remember this is Egon

17:25

he knows those instruments he knows what can be done he studied his whole life so

17:30

maybe that's the first thing he was doing was I know how to manipulate this stuff I'm gonna know how to use these

17:36

instruments basically so people can find me right I think well yeah I mean that's that's what that scene said to me is oh

17:42

okay he's lighting this stuff up he knows well and music right like in all these ghost shows she watches there's

17:48

this very much sense of that if a person has not finished what they need to do in

17:53

this life they can hang around or whatever the Egon clearly has unfinished business that he is desperate to take

17:59

care of and so yeah with the arrival of Phoebe who I absolutely I think she she's like a gem in this movie She Nails

18:06

it I disagree you're not a fan of Phoebe I love this character well anyway about her

18:15

um when I saw the the first preview and you slowly find out because they show

18:21

the little marshmallow yeah and you see the car when they showed her I said I know

18:27

exactly who that character is yeah just like no I thought well of course they

18:33

made her look like that yeah I was trying to say she doesn't like her hair is not like that no no but the dark hair the glasses the nerdy I mean she's

18:40

messing with when you at her opening image you see her messing with the wall outlet and turning in just her Mandarin like she nailed Egon Oh I thought so she

18:47

did a really good job I have that as her opening image as well for but I didn't I kind of like feel the same way to do

18:53

about her in the whole movie um like James you said you know you didn't I guess right she didn't know it for you she annoyed me the first time

18:59

you're not even annoyed I just didn't I didn't latch on to her I didn't I don't want to say I didn't like her just each

19:05

time I have seen this movie I enjoy it more yeah um and so I enjoyed her way more this

19:11

time than I did maybe the you know the first two times whatever I've seen it but well we'll get more into that as far

19:16

as the enjoying the movie but and she is one of the reasons or her character the

19:22

um the line I had that Egon said the way he says I'm terrified beyond the

19:28

capacity you know just he says it like that and that's how she is throughout the whole whatever stimulation calms me

19:34

yeah that kind of yeah yeah I didn't write a line down but I have a note just she nailed his mannerisms like yeah yeah

19:40

and but I think it was definitely dialogue that helped me you know as far as you know see that and write that note

19:46

down I don't remember what she said at the beginning but yeah so I have that as her opening image Phoebe granddaughter

19:51

highly intelligent mechanical resourceful science and learning driven Cali is the daughter she's bitter this

19:57

is her opening image bitter poor daddy issues with feelings of Abandonment yeah she's the one who got him on her yeah

20:03

her too yeah I mean I I kind of liked

20:09

some of her banter I mean I understand it if if her father left her and didn't have any contact with her I could

20:15

understand it but that's the because even the Ghostbusters are like uh you're gonna can rotten Hill you know I didn't

20:21

really have an opening image for what Trevor or whatever his name is the sun yeah he was uh he almost felt tacked on

20:28

at times but I guess I understand why he was there that's always a good movie I understand why that character is there

20:35

well I mean it's Finn wolfhard he's real big these days with stranger things and yeah and all that he's like he he

20:41

plugged right into that yeah no I mean he has to look I thought he had the the weakest Arc or whatever you know yeah

20:48

but he was the star power of this kid this this kid he's the assistant yeah like okay well

20:55

and he had which fan went to see this movie because of the kid in stranger things I mean this is a [ __ ] Goose

21:01

yeah so but because if you're your main protagonist of the story yeah it's

21:07

Ghostbusters but I mean I was gonna wait to get into this the Ghostbusters were in it in the last five [ __ ] minutes right right well yeah that's the whole

21:14

time so if kids are leading your movie you gotta well who's the fan base there you got to pull like James saying pool

21:20

from stranger things is the biggest kid thing going on right now yeah well I was thinking the same thing

21:25

you know like podcast way better than like forever okay but sure but

21:31

stranger things is really huge and even thinking back to Goonies you know having kids in the store the story oh

21:40

yeah okay all right well okay I just I didn't have an opening image for him or even a real Arc I mean it was Mom's

21:46

cutting his hair right in the first scene and then what's his what's his what's the last thing we see him doing

21:52

right he matured in some some way right he's no longer right I mean he's got a girlfriend yeah maybe he doesn't there

21:59

to fix the car yeah all of a sudden he's a mechanic at least we set up that that Phoebe is yeah

22:04

um you know Egon basically gifted and talented yes but he he starts to go to

22:10

work on uh Ecto one and like he knows somebody had to drive it right I mean

22:15

just story wise like if she's yes doing the proton pack and the podcast is doing the he puts Wheels on the trap to drive

22:21

it and they're chasing to go Somebody's gotta drive the car yes but there's no like yeah I'm not saying there's a great

22:27

Arc or anything I guess that all falls under the umbrella I can see why he's there

22:35

plus they add the other girl his lucky quote unquote girlfriend yeah yeah to be

22:41

the fourth later um I'm just saying yeah right the numbers are the same yeah she's right okay

22:48

so I think I think Cali and Phoebe both have arcs with opening images that are well met at the end but you know

22:54

whatever uh the setup he can obviously you can help me and you just ruined it so now like when Egon hugs him at the

23:00

end he's like I can see why you're here yeah that's pat on the back you know

23:06

Egon has gone okay like when you start working on the car I'm like okay he knows mechanics

23:12

that's cool I mean yeah how about whatever anyway Egon has died leaving everything to Cali Cali is poor and

23:18

being evicted this is their setup the dirt farm is all she now has left which is really just more debt and trouble

23:24

they go to Somerville which is a dump apparently you know the kids call it a dump but the only option left for egon's

23:30

Offspring The Town knew him as the dirt farmer and he will not be missed so right you know dirt farmer had a family

23:37

yeah all right I I told him not told Philip last night I had a problem with

23:42

the the whole dirt farmer because and watching it again you see corn you

23:49

see corn yeah but he never harvested it you see corn when the car's going

23:54

through something

24:06

I think I think it's corn That Grew and he just let it grow and then it probably dies and grows again you know I mean

24:11

because he's not harvesting he's not fertilizing what they're referencing in the dirt farm is where the traps are right you see all these rows and stuff

24:17

but it's everybody else it looks like well this guy's not [ __ ] around because all they ever see him doing is

24:23

working on the dirt for a while going over here he's in the dirt right yeah uh the family settles in for the Long

24:29

Haul Cali to fix a lot of bizarre [ __ ] he's a good customer though

24:34

uh Callie to fix up the house Phoebe to summer school Trevor to get a job and a girlfriend okay Phoebe meets and

24:41

befriends podcast and expresses akina so she's early set up as she disbelieves all things spiritual and ghost wise

24:48

we're we're just meat we're just Meat Puppets yeah very much science hard science driven there's some good

24:54

dialogue uh I feel like the dialogue is very Snappy oh yeah I like her jokes

25:00

no of course you like your jokes um no but the uh Trevor when they're driving

25:06

there and Trevor's got his [ __ ] phone out and he's like oh there's no bars in the moment because there better be able to better be some bars yeah what are you

25:12

embarrassed yeah right and the PBB adult and break into your grandfather's house um I don't know I like that the other

25:18

one don't be yourself and then she calls that back when he's at the moment when he's going on a date I love her Gary his

25:25

name is Gary Gary Gruber she just can't she's astounded okay you're going out with Gary gruberson

25:31

she's very very true and complete like shock yeah it's very Julia gulia

25:39

laughs meets podcast well I really thought I liked their whole banter and their

25:45

relationship uh encounters Gary gruberson and some relief I can't remember what she calls it uh I'm saying

25:51

the Wasteland of knowledge that surrounds her but she says basically it's a training a training camp for

25:56

talking about school yeah and the students that go there I wish I'd written that down the training camp for

26:02

serial killers and future felons she said something you know along those lines anyway uh there might there may be

26:10

there must be more than meets the eye going on though as someone wants to play chess with Phoebe she sees it and I

26:16

think she initially engages with it you know by moving her chest base but at this point I think she's still very rooted in science and well have they so

26:23

they're in summer school gruberson's there puts on a movie called Cujo yes and I found this gym in the basement

26:30

yeah I don't know if you know there's a pretty entertaining film going on over the next room there so he goes back there he's using summer school time to

26:37

figure out the earthquake yes he thinks something's going on so he's science yes he's awesome he doesn't like burden he

26:43

loves science yeah but he's thinking poops and neither does she uh yeah um so I'm calling the Catalyst

26:50

phoebec's the ghost detector go out because previous to this it had gone off in the background when the chess pieces

26:55

first moved she neither saw the chess piece move or the ghost detector so to her at this point she I think probably

27:02

still very clinical eye as to everything is an experiment subject to testing of

27:07

the scientific method to her apparently you know so she's neither sees the ghost detector or the

27:12

chess piece until what I'm calling the Catalyst when she actually sees it and Egon flips the piece across the room and

27:18

now she's off with the ghost detector being led down the hall with the lights right stuff which is okay this happened

27:24

or we're doing this yeah right yeah still because she will so this is the

27:29

Catalyst and she doesn't necessarily what I call debate it but she does spend a significant amount of time trying to

27:34

verify through experimentation what is exactly going on here gruberson schools Phoebe okay so

27:41

she finds the the ghost trap in I guess uh I thought initially this was where he

27:47

led her to the lab but it's not he leads her to the Trap that's buried in the floor and she takes it to school and is

27:53

trying to figure out what it is and gruberson immediately thinks it's a replica and quickly finds out it is not

27:58

and they release the second is this the second this is the minion that he had trapped right yeah right he trapped it

28:05

it was in the floor now Phoebe has it now they're gonna try to open it and so they release it now at that point

28:10

they're they're still only one right or is there two now this is what I couldn't remember Key Master whether when they

28:17

released that one or they're both yeah now they're yeah available okay so they can go possess some possess people yeah

28:22

all right hesitate to poke holes yeah why does he gone leave her to it right

28:28

it's it's in the floor if nobody knows about it stays there forever it goes or can never come back because you got to

28:33

have him right for well I think he once the Trap goes it permanently yeah okay and I'm dead now so let me get Phoebe to

28:39

do this yes he wants to finish I'm assuming because yes I mean that's the attraction yeah I guess that his full

28:44

plan was the plan that was executed at the end of the movie he was trying to do all by himself at the beginning of the

28:50

movie and failed yeah so he's [ __ ] douchebag friends were like he can go to hell yes well he took well he tried to

28:56

convince him according to what race dance is that yeah he tried to convince him and they wouldn't listen and he and he knew time was taking issue with that

29:03

so he stole he took all the stuff and says if you're not gonna help me I gotta do this myself that's the story they needed to tell right especially with him

29:08

being gone I guess but like I don't know that bothers me me too like [ __ ] you guys y'all went through like everything

29:14

it's Egon like after all the [ __ ] you all saw y'all didn't [ __ ] just willing to believe him yeah I know I

29:19

know I thought it was pretty shitty on their part yeah he made an analogy of a Twinkie being the size of a school bus and you guys were like we got to do

29:25

something about it and now he's over here

29:31

had gone off to make his fortune and and uh uh Bill Murray had gone off to teach

29:37

maybe they were in their lives and this is where they lost fate and Ghostbusters because they weren't making any money

29:43

Ghostbusters anymore I guess yeah yeah and and what he said went from 10 calls a week down to maybe one and right so

29:49

that I think they had moved on and just didn't want to get drawn back into it I guess yeah um but again that was another one of the

29:55

things me knowing what I know about the internet and YouTube videos if you put a Ghostbusters I'm sure there are still

30:01

people today calling that Ghostbusters number I bet you just see what happens yeah if it was on YouTube people would

30:06

be calling it more than once a day I guarantee you I'm surprised that and that was another one of the weird parts

30:12

of the movie is yeah the phone maybe rang once and you know who is this it's like no that phone should have been

30:17

ringing a thousand times a day from all over the world from people wanting to test out a video on YouTube right just

30:22

-:

30:29

they didn't even have the internet really I don't know how right well and the thing is is she watches a video on YouTube and this one's what he's saying

30:34

yes oh I got you yeah so there's still people like that video exists on the internet yes okay we're gonna call it

30:39

yeah because I've never heard of Ghostbusters like what and she's like yesen shows them the archival footage

30:46

and this kind of thing and of of Manhattan which I like that until you just ruined it so there you go James

30:52

sorry well because I mean even back when they released Ghostbusters originally the first one that number was a real

30:59

working number to a Ghostbusters that's cool I didn't realize that yeah well I didn't realize stranger things did that

31:04

too like in the last season there was the pizza guy the one of their friends that runs a pizza place oh I called it you can call the number eight yeah it's

31:11

kind of cool yeah they do that yeah so they get the Trap grouperson thinks it's

31:16

a replica then he finds out it's not and then I guess another point for me he so he knows Ghostbusters I get the kids not

31:22

knowing what it is but he knows what they are he wrote his replica in his decision is to open it open it yeah should we see what's in there you know

31:29

yeah no granted they gotta have it open so we have a movie as my wife said and I'm like I know that it had to happen so

31:34

the [ __ ] writer needs it to happen but well they they have this science is reckless science is uh chaotic science

31:40

is punk rock punk rock you know it makes him an idiot well he said it's

31:46

punk rock sometimes you lose I get the kids and I like this movie don't get me wrong like I like it more and more every time but yeah yeah no I like the

31:53

brothers meal now that you know like you said you like it more and more every time I feel the same way because when I

31:58

first started it I didn't like it and then I identified what I didn't like and I overcame that and I was able to enjoy

32:04

the movie that's what it is because yeah because when we saw it like I was the first time we saw it I think I was probably in the six percent and

32:10

everybody else I saw it was like oh I love this movie I was like okay like the Nostalgia is there that works but I was

32:16

just kind of like well I absolutely and I still haven't identified I'm hoping by the end of this I have to invite everything

32:21

why it bugs me what's for myself maybe it might be for you too I don't know but

32:26

I'll tell you later okay yeah well it's one I wouldn't put in like I wouldn't pick to watch it right all the time but

32:33

like every time I've watched it I'm like I get into it and I'm enjoying it so it's weird it bugs me that I can't figure out I was up like I don't like it

32:40

I was upset when they delayed it but I understood oh yeah I had to go I think I

32:45

think we went opening weekend and I think I had a great a grin on my face though oh yeah all the time yeah I am so

32:51

enamorative Ghostbusters they really could do no like they had me Oh I thought they did wrong with the female

32:57

one I'm talking about though because early on I was like oh yeah they're hitting it

33:02

man they're hitting all the stuff yeah because I mean I saw ghost the original one in the theater the summer

33:09

it came out and we had shirts made this with Ghostbusters and I mean that was

33:14

just the movie it was ginormous yes we loved it so when this came out I was

33:20

just like I was still who diapers when that was 80 something 84 84. all right so they

33:27

release them traveling company Trevor and his girlfriend and the rest of them go to the mine and hear the words Gozer

33:34

you know coming from the the bottom line shaft it's a question on that so when that happens right they're all hanging

33:40

out up there and then thing shoots out yeah right because they look down there and they can see like the orange glow and stuff right yeah well later on they

33:46

get in that same box and go down into the mine shaft so when it was glowing orange and stuff and like what the hell

33:51

is that was that like when ghosts are trying to come out in his the proton packs are holding it back yeah I think so it must have been because that's what

33:57

causes of the earthquakes that's what caused the earthquake I didn't remember there being an earthquake because it was like a demon was filling that chamber

34:03

yeah and coming up the pipe but then they go down the pipe into that chamber and there's nothing there yeah I was

34:09

confused by that too I was like there's like a thing moving around down there yeah I I don't think put together was

34:14

that it was trying to come out in his guns that we haven't seen yet at that point hold it back or whatever is that

34:20

what y'all got out of it I guess so yeah I I would have to assume that yeah okay not trying to poke a million holes I

34:26

promise because I don't remember there being an earthquake at that point like you said either yeah I remember I think there was because they were sitting in

34:31

that cage at the top of it they had to get out get out you know it starts it rattled a little bit or something which how the town hasn't fenced off that

34:38

exactly well let kids go up there I was like why did they step on oh that was

34:43

another thing sorry before we get too far up when they release uh when guberson and all them release uh the

34:51

spirit yeah you notice that Spirit takes the road and the bridge back to the mountain yeah yeah you can fly why don't

34:57

you just go straight to the mountains well followed the path and the road and

35:02

up in the why two two dimensional thinkings oh yeah good point

35:09

uh maybe it's retracing its steps that possibly Egon brought it out possibly

35:17

yeah I didn't think about that at all James yeah I'm like all right cool offer you got

35:23

Bridge it's rewinded yeah maybe yeah all right good gruberson discovers the

35:28

ancient map of the Somerville area which it's a map of Somerville but it's like ancient Sumerian you know yeah hundreds

35:35

thousands of years old this is so I guess I'm calling all this the Catalyst right that's what I said oh so

35:41

we're done with the we're about to head over to the second yeah nobody's broken it too yet you're right no no okay this

35:48

is all set and then so these are the things that sort of kick them off get them questioning um uh the debate

35:54

I'm not sure there's a proper debate Phoebe is still feeling out and investigating this whole ghost thing

35:59

finds egon's lab and gets the proton pack up and running watches the old commercial that makes a note of the

36:05

phone number and then tries out the proton packed with podcast this is all still debate I guess if I had to nail a

36:13

debate this would be it because she's well the the selenium Factory which

36:19

we'll get to in one just a second it's the next thing right so she doesn't really like refuse but she's not ready

36:25

to embrace what all this means yeah like she does not come to the conclusion here

36:31

that Egon was right and why didn't you tell me that you know Egon was a ghost no but podcast says to her and I think

36:37

it's after they because I guess my break into two is earlier because I feel like discovering the proton pack

36:43

repairing it and playing with it shooting bottles out in the field that's all fun and game stuff yeah when they

36:49

released the which bugs me is a breaking two but they released the the the gatekeeper whatever he flies off right

36:55

yeah um rape flies off uh broadcast says to her you know what this means right this

37:01

means your grandfather was a Ghostbuster you think that's the break in the two I just felt you were saying a second ago

37:06

you're saying that she hasn't embraced any of that but like there's literally a line in there about you know you know

37:11

what this means right and she goes yeah I'm not super I don't know what she says but yeah I feel like them yeah discovering the Trap and then doing

37:18

something with it it's kind of reverse of what you're always for you what you're always looking for going through a doorway but the the thing comes

37:24

through the you know right now crap that's good uh I could probably be convinced of that my only point is that

37:31

sort of triggered me yeah uh while testing the pro proton pack they discover muncher right they hear the

37:38

sound yeah she goes hunting but she's still not on board she does make some mention of the

37:44

selenium uh Factory and I'm not sure she says something about the apartment complex here I think she probably does factory behind them and she calls okay

37:52

she's in there and she calls muncher a ghost previously she had said she doesn't believe in ghosts right podcast

37:58

like what's that it's a ghost something she previously did not believe in and so I'm saying either here or when she

38:04

emerges from the selenium Factory is the break into two because I think before

38:09

going into the selenium Factory she's still very much testing out this stuff and not really sure what to make of it

38:16

yeah when she comes out it's a ghost and they're gonna go trap it so I think

38:24

but I like what you're saying because she comes to a realization there as well right and I don't have a lot of her

38:30

Journeys like finding her place like her mom says it later like I'm glad you found yourself out here or whatever right right yeah she doesn't know who

38:36

she is you know I guess yeah it doesn't fit in right right like in her Ordinary

38:41

World yes and then in a big part of that I guess to me one of the story the part of the story that works is if she if she

38:47

had known who her grandfather was the whole time yeah or even if they'd had a relationship she wouldn't struggle so much with fitting in because she would

38:53

know I'm just like him yeah you know like she probably would have gone down the path of being a Ghostbuster to begin

38:58

with sure you know later on in the car or whatever right

39:04

and correct me if I'm wrong I feel like you'll remember the the older ones more than I do but when the mom's like what is going on within the car after they

39:09

say and she goes I'm a scientist wouldn't that what Egon always said back off man well statement says I'm a side

39:14

back off man I'm a side okay all right so it's a callback to the gym but it's not necessarily yeah okay sorry you know

39:20

uh no no no um before before we get too far there was another thing that took me out of that and it's right there is when

39:25

they're testing out the proton pack yeah and she's blasting it and she says that cool line did I hit it no you didn't hit

39:32

you destroyed it um in the original movie wasn't weren't those proton packs super heavy weren't

39:38

they at least 80 pounds and I know during filming they weighed down Bill Murray's even more proton pack just to

39:44

piss him off but those things were heavy and now this 12 year old yeah he's a 12 year old girl maybe weighs 80 pounds

39:51

yeah oh yeah you know she's just whipping this thing around I see what you're saying but I guess I could let that go because Egon and his little

39:57

light ghost thing probably like somehow communicated her you gotta make this weight lighter so you can carry it so now she's a proton pack we saw her

40:04

repair it she's only an expert right and that's another one of the things that's kind of squishy is she's never she's

40:10

dealt with like amounts of electricity that go into a home well I know but she recognizes the parts now she's dealing

40:16

with a half-life kid bam got it I think she's just it's

40:21

like uh someone having the forest down the road that's related to Skywalker I'm cool but with Egon Egon has the you know

40:27

the doctor in front of his name he's gone to all these prestigious schools MIT and yeah but he's done all these research this is a 12 year old girl yeah

40:34

but he showed her literally like you know you got the needle nose pliers man point to the light and something was in the drawer I don't remember what it was

40:40

like he's there you got this guy who's got all these uh yeah but she recognizes the part You're missing two of these

40:45

blah blah blah she knew some of it and then he's walking her through the rest and she he the door opens and there they are so yeah but plus she she knows the

40:52

volcanic uh I'm not an idiot you know seismic stuff so while we're eating and drinking she's reading you know I mean

40:58

so I didn't even marks Trevor for it later would he kill you to read a book yeah yeah you just to tell me yeah and

41:04

see that's kind of bleeding into so more of I guess I can just go ahead and say it yeah because I'm almost there she

41:10

reminds me of young Sheldon yeah the Big Bang Theory Sheldon young Sheldon it was

41:16

that genius quippy thing and I don't like it no this wasn't gonna say I think that character works

41:22

and again I like her more this time but like there's a reason why egon's not the main guy in The Originals right yeah you

41:28

can't you make that kind of person a main character it doesn't necessarily work and that's the same point with

41:34

right exactly sure they have to have podcasts and the brother that nobody likes you

41:40

know yes because you can't have concentrated but then her mother says like uh science you know then it goes

41:45

back to you know uh wolf Finn wolfhard and podcasts and all these people are

41:51

not Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray no no Vinnie so they put that weight now on Paul Rudd to have that and he wasn't in

41:59

enough and he's you said it earlier in a few minutes or not like his name's gruberson right but you called him

42:04

gooberson which I like because he's a [ __ ] goober yeah not Ball Road I wanted to be in there

42:10

more like sure right yeah I cannot not like Paul Rudd I know I'm just gonna go off on a little bit of a tangent I guess

42:16

but they're at the end of the movie you see Bill Murray come up and just crush it with the just what's your name

42:22

Spangler huh good luck with that name yeah no it's absolute magic it is absolutely there's been five minutes he

42:28

was funnier than Paul Rudd was in this whole movie yeah sure not knocking Paul Rudd Bill Murray is God I like when you

42:34

know when uh uh stand still like are you a god instead like

42:40

Bill Murray was like come on come on man come on Ray yeah I've been waiting yeah how many years we've been through this

42:46

you know yeah no they're not they're not enough I mean in my opinion yeah you put

42:52

them in there it's it becomes them sure right and I think they needed this is the next Generation yeah no I

42:59

agree and like they I think they talked about it with the force awakens they had kind of the same problem is like I guess

43:04

earlier drafts had Han Luke and Leia together yeah um in addition to having the new

43:09

characters Ray and and uh Poe and Finn but the screenwriter had said that every time we put you know as soon as Han look

43:16

and lay come on the screen who gives a [ __ ] about these [ __ ] yeah so that's why they had to break it up so I agree with that it's just it's hard and as

43:22

fans you want to see the originals and back to I guess stranger things I felt like I like the stranger things kids

43:29

better than I liked these kids but I do like her yeah more and more every time I see her but I think it's because she's

43:34

awkward yeah right yeah it was intentional I'm just and that's just in

43:39

my brain that I don't like that young Sheldon type of delivery character that

43:45

character with that delivery yeah so it's not that she's bad she's not a bad actress this is a bad movie but once I

43:50

noticed that I was able to enjoy the movie more yeah because I was like I'll just look past that well the same thing

43:55

happened to take it back to a Star Trek real quick in the Next Generation Wesley Crusher Will Wheaton yeah absolutely

44:02

hate it because I know you watched the early episodes of Next Generation and he is an obnoxious little [ __ ] you know uh

44:10

really genius and and I don't know why the captain won't let me on the bridge I understand everything that goes on up

44:15

there you know you just want to rim his face into the wall and and that and that's why he became such a disgusting

44:21

character because they made him out to be like this young Sheldon genius know-it-all smarmy little [ __ ] that you

44:27

no wonder a car didn't who wants to get on the bridge I wouldn't want that kid around it takes a little bit of you know it's like brains are awesome but that

44:33

life experience that yeah that's what you need little shitty arrogance you know yeah but I don't feel like she

44:38

comes up no no she does I like her but that's what it reminds me of and that's why I was like oh I don't like it oh

44:43

wait that's what it is no it's not her fault it's not the movie fault it's me it's my fault so now Will Wheaton is not

44:50

anything like that I I watch Wil Wheaton doing his his shows about storage and he's just a solid guy okay but

44:58

fell victim to the character and he was very very young when he did it and he became this hated thing I don't know

45:04

anyway so now we're definitely into the fun and games they're chasing down that what was this metal eating

45:13

whether we go with Chris's play on Slimer yeah oh absolutely yeah so if we

45:18

go with Chris's we get more fun and games if we go with my break we only get really again hey fun in the game Phoebe is now on

45:24

board with her grandfather Trevor gets well I guess we get a couple Trevor gets Echo one running and then they're hunting and trapping

45:30

muncher yeah I feel like that's all fun and games to me and then when they when they trap him that's the midpoint the

45:37

the false Victory okay see the way I have it right uh I have a midpoint false

45:42

defeat okay uh funny so I'm very light on fun and games because I think

45:48

yeah anyway so I have a midpoint false defeat they're arrested and their gear is confiscated

45:54

and this this I and when I saw this I'm like is that the midpoint I stopped to stop

45:59

the video or whatever and it's it's at one hour and three minutes of a two hour and three minute movie so it's right at

46:05

the middle one hour mark of the two-hour movie so I'm like okay well maybe yeah I think I pause it too to check the time

46:10

and I'm like yeah we're halfway there I think I might have done that as well yeah because they just destroyed the town and

46:17

they're arrested and then they're arrested and their ships taken so I'm like yeah okay that's false Victory and we're on bad guys

46:23

because they trapped them they dropped a ghost here's these [ __ ] kids yeah like Ghostbusters trapping the gun they trapped a minor ghost but now they're

46:30

arrested and everything is put on hold but they don't know anything about Gozer and all that [ __ ] right I mean as far as

46:36

what they know it's hey the first ghost we saw and we trapped them we were able to use this [ __ ] finally and it was the

46:41

first time they try he throws it out there and he lands on its side in a you know the little comical beat right when they're in the factory yeah yeah

46:48

um and then later on so he upgrades it puts his thing on Wheels which I thought was very cool and then they get the kid who's driving the car and yeah they

46:54

chase it down and yeah they destroy the city but they that's that's yeah I mean it's a [ __ ] game and then it's they

47:00

trap the cruise it's false Victory okay all right false Victory because there's not the main guy and then you know they get all right well I hear you you can't

47:07

do all this [ __ ] so now you're [ __ ] grounded and you're arrested and all kinds of stuff okay and then more bad guys close in

47:13

when she calls you know Who you gonna call well she calls him and he doesn't [ __ ] eat a bag of dicks right well I

47:19

have he can rot in hell yeah using her one phone call then he mainly feels like an [ __ ] that's [ __ ] up move Egon

47:25

can rotten Hill yeah where he died and by the way I'm her I'm his

47:32

granddaughter it'll be really funny if they've been together uh fake minutes for you I I guess I still have this as a

47:38

philosophy using her one phone call she calls Ray stance at the Ghostbuster line and get some more history or whatever

47:44

yeah and then I have the bag I guess I have the bad guys closed and sort of where you do ray hates Egon he can rot

47:49

in hell their gear is gone and they can't get it mother is mad hates Egon too and the mine Evo shandor and the

47:56

Death Pit all sort of bad guys closed in for me yeah egon's not nuts but he's an [ __ ] welcome to the family yeah all

48:02

this is bad guys close into me when they're in jail and you know uh gruberson and their mom comes to pick him up

48:08

is Phoebe right yeah she she has a really dark turn there she points the protons

48:16

in a police station there's not just a gun like something that could vaporize you're right right which has basically

48:22

destroyed a lot of the Town yeah that was that was a little wild for me like

48:27

she went a little crazy there I didn't see that with him she's got no problems about shooting this thing because like when the because they first shoot it uh

48:34

muncher right then he spits out with the metal I thought that was cool she immediately pops up in mean faces

48:39

yeah so that's uh I didn't think it was a bit dark it was like What if she did yeah last thing now he's all melted and

48:47

you know I think yeah I think she's who are you gonna call buddy you know but who are you gonna call I love that so I

48:52

think and I guess to defend that she's she's when you find out maybe who you

48:58

are and you get jazzed about it maybe I don't you know when it goes too deep into it I see what he's saying as far as

49:04

like whoa she was trying to [ __ ] bless him I think it's funny but to your point this whole time she's looking for who she is yeah and she's finally found

49:11

it and now someone's trying to take it and now someone's trying to take it yeah and you know no we need the grandfathers for it yeah her grandfather does show

49:17

that anger remember when the the guy shuts down the power and he lurches at

49:24

the guy says your mother when they're arrested yo little uh that's right mother yeah he goes you're you're our

49:31

mothers yeah now I'm even better with it yeah to

49:37

eat on yeah she is yeah that's fine then because he he he was always calm until that scene when the guy shut down the

49:44

power yeah and they were you know man has no dick yes this is true yeah

49:52

all right so All Is Lost I have now okay so you're gonna have a foster feed I have a false Victory obviously right what is your false defeat at the All Is

49:59

Lost um when the mom's taken yeah they take Paul Rudd and then they take the mom and

50:05

turn them in yeah that is The Dark Knight of the Soul so we're we're just we're

50:10

I went a little later earlier yeah because that's where I have that next series because after the date

50:16

that gruberson goes on with the mother they go to the jails to pick up the kids now Gary guberson decides to go to the

50:24

emptiest Walmart the cleanest Walmart yeah well there's probably only one that's it that's what Steve said and

50:30

like where the hell are all the people no people no other cars employees no one in Austin supposedly there's lots

50:36

of Walmarts in Austin but the one uh sorry not Austin um oh my gosh

50:42

sorry Galveston um and there's probably more than one in Galveston but the the big one there is

50:47

supposedly haunted like the employees won't work nice really yeah so maybe that's what's going on here maybe and I

50:54

mean because Walmart would typically build in little towns that was one of their things because even in Lawrence

50:59

because you gotta have the [ __ ] and yeah come right here he's from it's a tiny little town and there's a Walmart you know well it was originally in a smaller

51:06

town than that near us yeah years and years ago before they even popped up everywhere it was in the that was their

51:13

model they would go to small towns instead of yeah but anyway so it's real

51:18

this pristine Walmart it looks like it just opened with no customers in it then he finds the marshmallow it doesn't seem

51:25

alarmed at first that that sort of Drew me out a little bit he makes a face right he's like he's playing with him

51:31

first I'll I'll start seeing this and I'm a Ghostbusters guy I'm like oh [ __ ] some evil is coming because the only

51:36

time these things appear is when shit's about to get real and he's right he doesn't really get alarmed until it bites him right they said they should

51:42

redo that and make it Ant-Man instead of a little Marshmallow guy that he's playing with you know playing with himself did you notice also he uh the

51:50

ice cream we grabs is Baskin Robbins and oh from Batman oh I didn't know I did he worked in Baskin Robbins afterwards

51:59

I've not seen that man no I haven't either that's not bad y'all love Paul rudge check out I mean you don't have to

52:05

watch the 4 000 other [ __ ] Marvel movies either just watch the ant-mans and you'll be fine all right

52:10

uh but yeah so he's attacked by what was it the key master the the dog how do you

52:16

tell them apart yeah I don't know I don't know I remember I don't even know which one yeah they are which one they become yeah so it's uh they get hit and

52:24

then it shows a scene with the kids going down into the tomb yeah so I okay so I have bad guys close in all what I

52:30

just said that's when they go down yeah they go there after breaking into the jail I

52:36

think so okay yeah because they have everything breaking the jail is breaking in three but yeah hold on yeah I think I

52:42

think you're right no no uh break into three muncher is released to get their gear that's I have that later yeah

52:48

that's later the jail is later so they go into the tune because they're out of jail their mother bails them out I think

52:54

they go into the tomb and then go into the tomb to figure out what's going on they're in the tomb where Paul wrote and Mom are getting turned into Gatekeepers

52:59

yes okay yeah that's all bad guys closing no one's lost to me yeah I have I was lost Egon was right all along they're the true love and sacrifice of

53:07

Egon as Cali discovers her father loves her deeply so uh I'm calling it a false

53:12

Victory because up to this point Cali is hate hates her father now she discovers that his whole life he really loved her

53:18

but yeah sacrificed all of that because he knew this was coming and Phoebe

53:23

saying Egon was right all along I have that as a false Victory because it's a definite change of mindset for both of

53:30

them uh and then the Dark Knight of the Soul Cali is taken as a minion of Gozer is what I have yeah all right honestly

53:36

that tracks and then and then it's breaking a three yeah yeah I have down the sliding pole into the third act they

53:41

slide down this isn't a farm it's a trap when she discovers so basically they come out of the house maybe that's when

53:47

the third act you know a door if you wanna because they suit up and everything yes Gathering the team arming up is what I have Trevor calian podcast

53:54

well lure Gozer back to the farm while lucky I guess meets them at the farm to flip the switch and and help trap them

54:01

so their job is to lead them back to the farm and lucky is there because they split up who's lucky lucky is the

54:07

Trevor's girlfriend though right the girl I didn't know her name I had to keep looking it up but yeah so your name

54:12

is lucky because when they when they're Sheriff's daughter yeah Sheriff's daughter like he calls her lucky I don't know why but when they when they are

54:19

suited up and and the three of them are in Ecto one she's in another car no beans there and when they get to the

54:26

farm she's there bust out with the proton pack ready to flip the switch right you know Gathering to you so yeah

54:32

Trevor Cali podcast Lord goes with the farm while lucky will wait for them to flip the switch muncher is released to get their gear storming the castle is

54:39

obviously the mountain uh they rescue mom and remove a minion of Gozer the key master pursues yeah they slide that

54:46

little car on Wheels after distracting Gozer let the jokes with the Jets yes

54:51

yes yeah and they suck the soul out of the or they suck the key master whichever end of the thing they saved

54:57

their mom yeah the mom is yeah uh go home man you're drunk just I'd like I guess I just

55:06

um I just dig her man I don't know why I feel like they set up the jokes well like because they're you know you know

55:12

she's like don't don't be afraid to start a conversation with somebody he's like what that's the terrible idea how are the jokes come in and then she tells

55:18

jokes and he's like see they make up everything that's brilliant yeah and then the so bad and then the jokes you

55:24

know they use them on Gozer while people yeah yeah I know I'm 12.

55:29

are you then she says are you like yeah which is awesome there's some steel in this girl yeah are

55:36

you and that's Olivia Wilde is the uh is Gozer now I right who was Olivia Wilde

55:44

um she was in Tron she was in uh she was married to Jason Sudeikis yeah that's

55:49

what she's probably known for lately married to him and okay Ted lasso and then they'll get a good look at her and

55:56

the first one I guess a little bit but in this one I was like man gooser's hot you know right I was digging girls yeah

56:02

look her up yeah she's definitely very attractive but uh yeah I thought they did a good job though I thought she was a good choice to to try to be the same

56:09

character didn't even realize that was her yeah no I didn't know who it was but I was like that's a good match for for the original yeah oh yeah yeah yeah okay

56:16

yeah she's all right and she's all right anyway Castle they

56:23

rescue mom and remove a minion of Gozer Key Master pursues Hightower surprise is what I'm calling but the Trap fails and

56:29

lucky has made the new minion so they they they're storming the castle they think it's gonna work it doesn't work and then one is taken lucky uh they have

56:36

to have a new plan I call it the band back together but they suffer a setback until everyone I'm glossing this over

56:42

it's able to so yeah the the new plan is hey hey babe you know we're back or whatever you the Ghostbusters have

56:48

gotten back together right but even that is sort of a setback and they all have to work together across the streams all of them and so

56:56

basically I'm saying every all loose ends are tied up family issue solved Ghostbusters realize what that Egon was

57:01

trying to do they actually apologized to him uh I basically have all Old Wounds healed that issue is resolved everything

57:08

wrapped up neat uh the the actor that played uh Egon the the actual actor the

57:15

stand-in yeah it was uh I forget his name but he was the warden in Shawshank Redemption is it Bob gunton uh maybe it

57:24

was the warden and Felton you know him if he saw him but like he is a notable actor yeah that's him let me see that's

57:31

who they got to you because I didn't realize that that does not look like no I mean obviously the cgis ship yeah like

57:38

that's the actor they used for that performance and CGI to face I'm like why use him I couldn't use anybody could use

57:45

a broomstick but he's fantastic no no he is he's fantastic in everything but they covered his face yeah I didn't realize

57:51

that it was a person until I I was going through the list just now and he it says he's the the ghost yeah easy ghost the

57:59

ghost it doesn't tell me the whole thing because that is up that was farmer you're talking about how they

58:04

superimposed the young Schwarzenegger on but this was incredible yeah absolutely

58:09

incredible how they yeah no yeah they did a really good job with that yeah yeah yeah it just blows my mind that

58:15

they use that actor for that yeah and then old footage old footage of from the

58:20

previous movies of Egon yeah and put it in there and then no but they couldn't just leave it like that obviously they had to age him yes

58:26

absolutely yeah they know they did a good job oh there he is with this straw shank sure yeah and then you know as he

58:33

disappears into the Stars they say foreign

58:46

it they it's like playing minor chords you know you're gonna spread your emotions and stuff you know

58:54

uh and if you love like like I'm so enamored of Ghostbusters the first one that this is like I keep calling it a

59:01

love letter to Ghostbusters this movie I get yeah I think it is and I also think it's interesting um I just read a little

59:07

bit about it but like with uh Ivan Reitman director the first one right and he had some issues with his father right

59:13

and then Jason did this had some issues with his father so it's almost like it feels like to me like he was getting his

59:18

own you know closure and yeah and you know resolving his own issues with his dad by coming back and making a

59:25

Christmas movie what's what's the guy that plays Egon what's his name Harold Ramis yeah he was big on Cache right he

59:30

I think he wrote kind of shocker right he wrote him and act where he wrote the first Ghostbusters yeah okay yeah and I

59:35

think he wrote and directed Caddyshack or at least wrote it yeah yeah yeah and he did uh he I think he directed

59:41

Groundhog Day too yeah that sounds right that's when him and Bill Murray really broke apart for the first time I

59:46

remember seeing him was in the what was the uh Army movie they were oh well Stripes yeah

59:56

that's good stuff yeah so any other I guess that's my breakdown any other

::

thoughts or hmm I no I think I I think I've vented as much as I could well I

::

think uh hugged me I think I seriously think that I can't see any flaws in this movie I'm

::

sure they're there I'm sure you're right it's got to be but uh there's such a an

::

attachment I think for a lot of the fans that they were so grateful to finally get what they wanted I mean I don't even

::

like really try to I don't know I just I mean yeah I don't know I still like you

::

want to see more of the because yeah because game is right as soon as they come on the screen at the end you're like [ __ ] yeah no no you enjoy every

::

minute of it yeah Bill Murray in his what five minutes ten minutes of screen time [ __ ] Nails it like it's it's

::

[ __ ] take me back and I don't give a [ __ ] that he's way older now like he's no no [ __ ] and he's nailing it like 100

::

but if you put them in there like you said yeah it's them you struggle with it yeah uh I don't know maybe I would have

::

been happier with that or you know some sort of if you're if you're trying to pass the torch right have you know the

::

Phoebe character being an adult right and then that teams up instead of a kid and teams up with the Aging Ghostbusters

::

I thought that would have been the only way that this movie could have been better was to yeah age up all all of

::

them no instead of being 12 14 16 whatever they are yeah make them in their mid-20s you're making college

::

students yeah something like that because you're making they said they're making a sequel so it's still going to be kids fighting Ghostbusters or these

::

more guys are coming back now one into the fire station yeah and

::

saying something uh I'll get you back girl or whatever you know lovingly talk that leads you to believe that it's gonna be the original guys right yes now

::

now there was some articles Ernie the guy who played uh Ernie Hudson Ernie Hudson the guy who played Winston

::

zedmore yeah I I like him in Ghostbusters but but apparently like in

::

Ghostbusters 2 or like like okay so original I guess in the original script he was brought on very early like with

::

the others but then that was changed to where he was brought on as a Hired Hand and he he loves Ghostbusters and he's

::

not charging racism or anything but he does feel a little miffed that he wasn't on the poster and he's considered like

::

an add-on by the by the studio in the writing of the script he was parked for review used

::

and he said if I'm gonna do Ghostbusters he's this character's got to be a full part of it or I'm not doing it and I saw

::

him I'm thinking that he's going to be a right on there if not probably the star I don't know how much longer Bill Murray

::

and Dan actually can do him or whatever if they even want it I mean obviously Dan Aykroyd owns the IP and the story so

::

he's down for a Ghostbuster movie every year yeah he can pay the bills but like Bill Murray he doesn't even answer his

::

phone like I'm sure no this is interesting Bill Murray doesn't have an agent he has a phone number right that you can call and Pitch an idea and if he

::

likes it he'll call you back doesn't matter who you are really yes I don't know that number I don't know where you'd find it but that I've I've heard

::

him say that and other people say that I know where he lives Charleston yeah but doesn't have a does not have an agent If

::

he if he likes your idea he'll do it it's a good number so send in your Bill Murray scripts huh and but people people that have worked

::

with him even says like the day of production we weren't sure he was going to show it yeah that is true that is

::

true but he did but he did but he but he's very uh at that point he was very but then he just get in trouble for some

::

some movies that they shut down he said something his reputation being a dick right well

::

at some point in his at some point because he made a movie you know this Zen movie or whatever it was at some

::

point in his life he was involved in a very Zen kind of Life uh view uh like um

::

because we watched this documentary like in meatballs there's a scene it just doesn't matter it just doesn't matter well that was his whole philosophy of

::

life that not that nothing matters but you can't let little things hang you up you just gotta act like it doesn't matter move on

::

so he was very he had this very spiritual kind of uh Zen outlook on life

::

for a while right and so if he was told to show up at noon he would get this

::

attitude from him like well you know it just doesn't matter but he would be there since then I don't know if he's gotten

::

they're not older and you know more cantankerous and cranky or whatever but he's Bill Murray he mostly gets away

::

with showing up to people's parties and no he would enjoy nothing all day stories washing dishes at somebody's

::

partying and playing drums for yeah anyway um but it looked like uh Winston zedmore

::

Ernie is going to have a major Rook because he was the one showcased at the end with fixing up right and I'm fine

::

with that I think that would be awesome yeah that would be cool still paying for race dances uh occult

::

Bookshop you know he'll make a profit one day you know right raise a cult raise a cult yeah that's it

::

inequerade really into that stuff oh yeah yeah he's got some stories his

::

parents or his dad was a Ghost Hunter what any really yeah like his family family lineage they were all

::

into that stuff and you know I'll be honest when when Ghostbusters came out

::

back in 84 yeah all the little instruments they used and then the

::

scientists doing I was sitting there going this is this is not real this is just no this is a comedy

::

but now that I watch all these ghost shows they have their own little instruments and and even before these

::

ghost shows uh the people back I don't know what year the holtzer holder yeah

::

and and the what's the two The Conjuring um Ed and Lorraine Warren oh yeah the

::

Warrens yeah I mean I guess they weren't too far off maybe well yeah of the using the

::

instruments to track things and well it's like this science fiction is science fiction before it's science fact

::

like even in Star Trek they were using you know things oh yeah no imaginary

::

things that would actually come to pass there's a whole documentary about yeah scientists and physicists who were

::

inspired by Star Trek and then a lot of that Star Trek stuff is you know he had that flip phone in that movie right well

::

the communicator yeah yeah but it was this like a flip it it always did that I always wanted one of those and now I

::

have one and I love forgot it at home today anything not only under a replicator you

::

could just go get you another I am saying right you know good stuff yes pass right oh yeah

::

anything else about this movie no all right let's do our pass consider

::

[Music]

::

all right this was Sherry's pick you start off oh you want me to sure okay

::

um like I said when I saw the previews I could not wait could not wait and it was

::

a added plus that Paul Rudd was part of it I know y'all have issues but um

::

I know but still you said more of them they wanted more of it oh they want more of them yeah Gary gruberson you're

::

dating Gary groupers sorry but uh

::

um now you made me lose some storage you like this movie Paul wrote and we hate him

::

no um I the reason I picked it is because like you said we were doing

::

sequels and this is the sequel that you you

::

expect to see 30 years later sure from a movie I mean basically uh yes I I agree

::

I think they make a good point that they would have liked to have seen more of the originals but as soon as that's like

::

you know as soon as you put them in there that becomes the thing so it it is very much and I I was fine I was fine

::

with not seeing them there's so many homages I think it I think they did get them just not I think physically this

::

movie I think the first one it it was more of a comedy to me with scary parts

::

this was more dramatic with funny parts yeah and with with a lot of the same

::

music I mean everything it was totally like I said a love letter I think yes and I think it was I think it was done I

::

think I think it was done really well yeah but that's why I picked it yeah no I I highly recommend I

::

I probably do not see this movie as clearly as some because I I love it and

::

I love it because it's such a call back to the original and so I I absolutely recommend it but probably over love this

::

movie maybe you know it's a good point yeah I think I'd consider this movie uh

::

because I just love the first one so much that if I'm gonna invest because this afterlife is two

::

hours it's a two hour movie it is two hours Ghostbusters is an hour and a half yeah why invest two hours in something

::

I'm kind of gonna enjoy I can invest an hour and a half in something I know I'm gonna right sure so I'd rather just

::

watch the original one this one's not bad yeah I'd watch it again but if it's

::

nowhere near as good as the first one in my opinion sure and again I think if they had aged up the characters instead

::

of being young teens to Young 20-somethings I think it might have been even better but this isn't bad no no

::

I'll be very interested to see because I think they're probably gonna lean more towards what you're saying in the next one than what almost have to really

::

right yeah even if they use the same kids yeah they're gonna be older older yeah um yeah it's consider for me

::

um because yeah I mean I I obviously I like the first Ghostbuster movies and if you like those and you gotta check this one out for sure don't check out the one

::

with [ __ ] Christmas wig that's so terrible um that was really disappointed in that

::

oh my God I was so mad it doesn't count to me um it's worse than rocky five probably even

::

um just a steaming pop but they were saying uh sorry like I can pinpoint specifically they were saying that in

::

Ghostbusters afterlife there's a scene where the proton pack turns on yeah and it's just like the original one it kind

::

of sings and it's like oh yeah it's a proton pack and the other Ghostbusters with uh all the the ladies in it as soon

::

as a proton pack goes on you hear Melissa McCarthy go oh listen to that thing per it's amazing it's like well no

::

we want to hear the proton pack yeah we don't want to hear you yeah all things about that baby

::

they just over did it I don't know why they even agreed to do like if if I'm any of those actresses or actors I'm

::

like no this is right there's that's almost toxic because you're touching something that is so

::

beloved sure that if you screwed up you're gonna be hated right memories in it but he's not even himself he's a

::

different guy yeah a cab driver of some kind exactly I don't know well that was acroyd yeah I forgot he was in it yeah

::

it's like blown out the window or something yeah he's not but he's not but neither one of them are their their characters yeah what I don't understand

::

any of that I don't understand let's make a Terminator Sequel and have Arnold in it but he's not a Terminator you know that's that's what they did there he's a

::

hot dog vendor he's a hot dog vendor yeah yeah um give me the tread on your stuff I don't know just consider

::

um I agreed with almost everything you said James um I guess we're gonna feel very similar to the movie

::

um and I agree it's not a bad movie like it bugs me that like I said earlier it bugs me that like I feel like Muslim I

::

can pinpoint why yeah I don't like a movie or don't wanna sometimes I don't like it it's just there's parts to the

::

things that bugged me about it but then when I watch it I'm into it I'm enjoying it all right it's not like it's stuff that pulls me out where I'm like well so

::

but it's not one I would pick like he said James said he's watch it again of thinking would I watch it again yeah I

::

guess if somebody said hey let's watch it I'm not going to necessarily pick it I don't guess but well so yeah I'm the

::

opposite I can't really tell you why I like it except it's Ghostbusters and they talk about the first one it's a homage and although homage is in the

::

Nostalgia it's it all works it's all done really well so I don't know yeah they have me for reasons maybe I can't

::

articulate as well as I'd like yeah I think that just didn't connect to the main characters as much as I would have

::

liked yeah sure sure it's never going to be as good as the original sure that's and that's fine but this I think with

::

this director these writers I think they knew that they're just like let's put out the best thing we could and this is

::

the best type of oh yeah I think they knew what then here's the red meat the fans want to see they want to see actor

::

they want to see the packs they want to see you know uh egon's suit they want us

::

you know but also a story that is entertaining yeah okay yeah I think passing the the you

::

know baton or the torch stories are are probably hard to do absolutely do well

::

but like 30 years later but I felt like I was just thinking about that like so they did them with the Star Wars movies right like I would go see another Star

::

Wars movie that doesn't have Han Luke and Leia in it like they make another one with Ray Po and finna I'm down I'm gonna go see it I love Star Wars so

::

maybe back to where you're seeing some of that clouds my my view of it but and I like Rocky too but like I'm down for

::

Creed Three like super excited and he's the one's not in that at all yeah and I'm just as equally excited about it so

::

I feel like if you I don't know maybe you just connected to those I connected to Creed and in the the new Star Wars

::

characters more than I did these kids maybe I don't know yeah well like like so I was always an original series Star Trek and when the next Generation came

::

out ah what the hell is this yeah why would I watch that you know yeah but then are you warm to it now I love it

::

and I watched all the rest of the series now but I was I can remember initially not being that interested in even seeing

::

it you know yeah and maybe like you said they make a sequel and I see these again in the second one and completely changed

::

I don't know maybe they would almost I think they almost have to go back to New York the way this one ends okay can I

::

add something to um you know with Harold Ramis passing

::

yeah yeah um I appreciate them addressing it because every time I watch this and I've

::

watched it several times and I've listened to it put it on in the background every time the original Ghostbusters

::

start talking to the ghost of of um Egon yeah I start crying because I'm like are

::

they really saying goodbye to their friends I think so yeah I think so I really think they are I think that it's

::

not just the character saying goodbye but I think it's the the people saying you know sure yeah this is oh do that

::

again this is one of these I know nine dollars can be whatever you know this is

::

this is a love letter to oh absolutely not just Ghostbusters but to him yeah yeah yeah I agree

::

about it I mean no Stacy got Tyrion every time I think and yeah yes and all

::

that works like I don't disagree I just I don't know like I guess I

::

wanted more of that that's like one of my favorite part of the show but you don't like the whole movies like that

::

the whole movie like that but when Harold Ramis passed away I remember just

::

all I could think of was thank you for the laughs because of everything he's written or or been a part of yeah it's

::

just like well I can remember when you know watch even the watching it the first time and

::

hearing uh Bill Murray in the back you know he speaks before you see him and but you know the Ghostbusters has shown

::

up and Bill Murray's like hey babe and I I can I don't know if the crowd cheered I think inside I was just like yeah

::

right here they are you know well because in the the new characters we're getting we're losing yeah we're getting

::

the rest is kicked and you didn't think they were going to show up because then after I blew her off yeah yes yes but

::

obviously a little bit from a story standpoint works very well yeah no yeah but yeah James is like interesting he

::

comes in and Nails it it's he's [ __ ] making it after 30 years we've talked about this before like if you don't you can not have an

::

audience for the first 90 minutes but if you can nail them at the end you've got them and I think that they do that yeah

::

I think by the end when they show up and everything whatever happened before I Love It I Don't Remember Loving it but I love it

::

because here's the end you know and that's anyway yeah well try try listening to it without watching it

::

because I like I said I have put it on and just worked yeah I'm listening to it

::

the music sure just just the whole they're hitting it all stops yes the

::

whole the whole vibe I mean the whole thing of it yeah just yeah it does and there's more stuff that works and

::

doesn't for me for sure even we didn't talk about a whole lot even a little marshmallow guys like the one gets run over with a [ __ ] uh Roomba

::

chopped up in the blender that's good [ __ ] I enjoy everything in the Walmart they annoyed me but as a you know kind

::

of set decoration later of something for podcast I have to fight it totally made sense I did it yeah and it's nice

::

because it worked as an homage to the first one of him coming out all covered yeah the marshmallows somebody's gonna

::

walk out of here cover the mushrooms yeah I got my own problems

::

I liked podcast I liked him a lot I really like why do people call you podcasts well I call myself podcast

::

I see a lot of you in that character oh yeah yeah do you have all of this on a thumb drive that you can just readily

::

yeah MP3 saved I can put it on Thunder I've started talking to my people

::

all right anyway so uh all right so we good I think so all right well that is

::

Ghostbusters afterlife we are out why do people call you podcast well I call

::

myself podcast yeah Gary gruberson you're dating Gary gruber's

::

she's like a geminism which I like that until you just ruined

::

it sorry well there's been five minutes he was funnier than Paul Rudd was in

::

this whole movie yeah sure but once I noticed that I was able to enjoy the movie more yeah because I was like I'll

::

just look past that then she says are you like yeah which is awesome there's some steel in this girl yeah are

::

you that would have been the only [Music]

::

by the end when they show up and everything whatever happened before I Love It I Don't Remember Loving it but I love it

::

a lot of bizarre [ __ ] yeah he's a good customer though uh

About your hosts

Philip McClimon

Profile picture for Philip McClimon
Philip A. McClimon is an author who likes to write about the end of the world (post apocalyptic, Sci/Fi), mostly because he thinks the shopping would be awesome (No crowds, everything free). He likes heroes that are the strong, silent type and not necessarily male. By silent he means up until the time there is something snarky to say, usually before, during, and after doing something cool.

He writes Urban Fantasy under the name Billy Baltimore for no other reason than that he likes the name. Many of the same rules for his other stories apply to Billy’s, strong silent types, smart mouth, does cool stuff, but these stories take place in a made up town called Hemisphere and involve stuff you only ever hear about on late night conspiracy talk show podcasts, which are, if you think about it, pretty awesome too.

So, that's Phil. He's not strong, rarely silent, and isn't known for doing a lot of cool things.

But his characters are.

Sherry McClimon

The wife of Philip McClimon. Probably all that needs to be said. She is responsible for his bad behavior not being worse than it is. She is concerned that her mother might listen.

James Harris

Profile picture for James Harris
James Harris is a tech guru and musician extraordinaire; he also loves movies. A pretty decent guy all around.

Chris Sapp

Profile picture for Chris Sapp
Chris Sapp has been a friend for a lot of years and a writer for a lot more. An encyclopedic knowledge of story and movies, he can take you on a deep dive into script and screen. Another pretty decent guy, which are the only kind allowed around here.
