0:38
show at this point in the movie I'm like okay well here's here's what you should have
0:44
done and I'm thinking yeah right it's one of my favorite openings ever and I've watched that alternate ending
0:51
and it is garbage it doesn't go where you think it's going to go there's a
0:56
monster I am I'm ready for it to be over well I'm not sure I can even fully uh
1:02
explain why I love this movie so much [Music]
1:07
my feelings on it have not changed I fell asleep until the screaming this
1:14
is actually where I started enjoying the movie is one of my favorite scenes in all of Cinema
1:19
I thought that should have been cut completely oh come on well I'm sure it's artistic and you just don't get it uh
1:26
Fellowship of the real four friends in a movie here we are been a while we are uh gonna start off with shares what do we
1:32
what are we calling us we can uh share uh Sherry's queries right well we started upstairs queries and then we was uh notable quotables right yeah you know
1:39
what you decided on nice notable quotables yeah there is notable quotables quotable notables quotable
1:44
noodles all right all right are you ready are you ready I think so okay bring it
1:51
[Music] thank you
1:58
okay here we go all right hit us well all right first one you can't handle the truth that's true oh yeah A Few Good Men
2:04
yeah yeah Nicholson you can't say oh yeah you had to say the time yeah I couldn't think of the time
2:10
yeah he goes oh yeah and I'm like yeah [ __ ] what is it yeah you want me on that
2:16
wall you know okay all right the next one this is I just looked up the movie and I said what quotes are in this movie
2:23
and I've seen the movie you're probably not going to know this I didn't know it but anyway let's see who knows it if I
2:30
don't know something you don't know it that's for sure I know sticking feathers up your butt
2:38
does not make you a chicken I have no idea like I've heard it but I can't think of
2:44
what I don't think I've ever even heard that you've seen the movie Once because I'm I ask you to watch it with me I'd already seen it did you like the movie
2:50
yeah I did did he like the movie no did we
2:55
I think it's not Steel Magnolias is it now when you keep threatening all right
3:01
you want to know sure it was Fight Club oh man oh that yeah bread bread yeah I
3:08
know who said it was it was uh Brad Pitt oh wasn't it I just said the line yeah you
3:14
got us on that one no I've seen I've seen Fight Club once or whatever I don't know I just thought it was funny I I guess I like that movie all right not
3:21
enough to we had it for a while I thought maybe we still do but I think we may have bought it like when Blockbuster
3:27
was going out of business for cheap yeah but even having it I've never watched it a second time man no I've only watched
3:33
it twice once while you were probably on deployment and then yeah Chuck palahnik is the is the author um I've got more
3:40
like your stuff quite a bit like yeah he wrote one called pygmy and it's about this uh uh someone from uh another
3:46
country like he he's very he never says what country like it could be Russia it could be China it's that kind of thing and the guy it's a he's a teenager but
3:53
he comes over to infiltrate like America and to like you know be be a terrorist or whatever return from his point of
3:59
view but it the whole thing's broken English and it's his reports oh yeah it's operated me but like it's just the
4:05
challenge of having to write something yeah in English like because you're reading along or whatever and like I don't know I really enjoy it's probably my favorite book just because I guess I
4:12
appreciate the effort it probably took to yeah to write it that way and then because when you're first reading it
4:17
it's kind of off-putting but you you catch on to where yeah yeah you get the original pretty smoothly by the end
4:22
right all right last one yeah look when I get home now whoever says it first
4:28
because everybody's gonna know this one as you wish oh for [ __ ] sake yeah
4:34
yeah it's right here on the wall Wesley yeah yep all right well good deal I got
4:41
a couple of those he crushed us with the little one that wasn't a very obscure which you know you don't want them all
4:47
to be as you wishes so I just found it an interesting line and I thought well it it it's kind of I don't know it yeah
4:54
it is not a a famous quote no no but it kind of sticks out yeah but the famous
5:00
ones are easy so you gotta if you if you know you know if you're an expert you're gonna get the more obscure ones you know
5:05
well there's some movies that I've seen over and over y'all may not have seen that I know every little yeah sure every
5:12
little line so yeah all right well good deal all right so we're doing uh a Demolition Man first yes yeah yeah
5:19
Demolition Man all right I guess we'll get into this and then not you know because I I have yeah we all have
5:25
something about this so we'll get into this all right so let's start off with money critics fans foreign
5:30
[Music] does anybody have this stuff they want
5:36
to go with or I think you're the only one with the printer okay yeah man I've got the internet I've got the internet yeah so so I think we all just like I
5:43
feel good yeah no well hey yeah I mean when someone else is moving I
5:49
don't want to like set on their time or on their parade yeah yeah so you know but that's cool money critics fans
5:55
initially when I first watched this I thought these scores were high uh watching it two or three times I
6:02
appreciate the movie more uh as I watched it I remember when it first came out really liking it watching it with a
6:09
more critical eye the first time you know a couple last week or whatever uh you know and then watching it twice more
6:17
I started warming back up to it but I I think it's it is what it is so the the
6:22
Tomato Meter is 62 and 66 62 percent of fans uh 62 of critics gave it three and
6:29
a half stars or above and 66 of the audience gave it three and a half stars
6:34
and above we'll get into the money in a second I struggled with this movie because well we'll get into that I don't
6:41
want to shoot it all at once but I thought the movie was unduly praised initially and so I looked up well did It
6:48
win any awards well and this I think is entirely unfair uh went some razzies well one one Rousey Sandra Bullock won a
6:55
Razzie for best supported we're supporting actress okay this was right before speed I think yeah
7:01
um yeah yeah yeah Street was 94 this is 93. yeah yeah that's the first one I
7:06
remember seeing her in but I thought she was real cute in this movie no no well I
7:11
I we're going to get into that yeah so she won the whole section well
7:17
anyway when I say cute I don't mean I mean just her misquoting all the No No
7:23
Yeah the little things she said her role well well yes so for the Academy The Academy of Science Fiction fantasy and
7:29
horror films gave it uh so that's the only award it won it was nominated for six other Awards it was nominated for
7:35
best science fiction film a Saturn award by The Academy of Science Fiction and Fantasy and horror films best costumes
7:41
best special effects ASCAP film and television Music Awards it won an award I guess so it won two awards for bet for
7:48
top box office films you know we'll get into that in a second made some money anyway best villain nominee Wesley
7:54
Snipes anyway so it it got some attention and I just I think anyway the
7:59
the to the box office domestic box office was 58 million now I found two
8:04
figures on this one only listed uh domestic and it said it didn't have an
8:10
international so Rotten Tomatoes says it made 58 million with no worldwide release at all other sites numbers.com
8:18
said that it made to 58 million but it also International made 101 million for a total of
8:23
159 million on a 57 million budget so depending on which good and I found several that said 159 so I suspect that
8:30
Rotten Tomatoes just didn't have those numbers so it made its money considered a success I read somewhere in looking
8:35
or:8:42
so I don't know if that's ever going to happen so it made us money and I think
8:47
it was more warmly received at its release than over the course of its life based on the box office 66 should be
8:54
higher based on how it holds up over time maybe 66 is more appropriate yeah I
9:00
definitely see that 66 is kind of where I would Peg it it doesn't hold up as uh
9:05
well as it did when I was 10 years old when this thing was released yeah I just looked it up I didn't realize this was
9:11
rated R I mean it makes sense that it's rated R but I think I went to this on uh one of my birthdays yeah well we watched
9:20
it there is I mean I saw it in the theater as well yeah I saw it in theaters I don't know I don't think we saw for some reason I think of this is a
9:26
kids movie but well it's absolutely not it's to me it's so all right to me it's
9:32
it's it's uh and all in how you go in what expectations you have going in and we'll get to that in the the Beats yeah
9:39
so that like at the top of my notes we'll get to the beats in a second but the top of my notes just for my own because I wanted to mention this and
9:46
just for my own so I didn't lend too much to this movie or try to look for too much in this movie I put warning do
9:51
not engage your brain at any time absolutely during this movie absolutely right yeah so uh I guess uh well I have
9:59
genre here I don't know what genre y'all picked and we'll get into the Beats after this I I said it wants to be buddy
10:04
love I think it winds up being a dude with a problem anyway I think as we get into the Beats I think there's a I think
10:09
it wants to be buddy love and I think there's problems with that all right so it made its money and I think fans and
10:15
critics over time have have sort of said that it's not as not holding up as well as maybe it did when it first came out
10:22
any other thoughts on made a [ __ ] ton of money though right you know it's all about yeah I'm similar to James I guess
10:29
I I enjoyed it a lot when I was a kid yeah so I remember loving this movie but like if I go back like because
10:34
Cliffhanger came out the same year yeah um I've rewatched both of those I guess you know in the last year or whatever
10:40
Cliffhanger is more enjoyable than Demolition Man to me yeah as a re-watch like it held up more I remember being
10:45
very disturbed by the Cliffhanger opening because that girl falls right yeah that's exactly all I remember I think that's the Geniuses of that is uh
10:53
Stallone that's rainbow he's not gonna drop that girl you're right right holy [ __ ] he did no no and then we're off
10:58
that's actually the I mean like I can remember that scene I'm not sure I could recall any other scenes so yeah it was
11:04
it was that one we may have seen in the theater but but this one for some reason think we just rented it I remember the
11:10
posters for the seeing this the poster this him and Wesley Snipe staring at each other and I'm never being excited like yeah Dad I want to go see that sure
11:17
yeah all right so let's get into the Beats because uh that way we can start talking about this yeah and then we'll unpack this because I've been very
11:24
interested to see how y'all broke this down if you were able to all right so let's let's do the beat
11:29
[Music] foreign [Music]
11:37
so again like I said I think it wants to be a buddy love I think it's I think the
11:42
buddies are Spartan and Huxley okay but I think at some point that goes off the rails I think it winds up being a dude
11:49
with a problem maybe but my instinct was dude with a problem but I think there could be an argument made for
11:55
institutionalized yeah yeah because of the prison and stuff that's what I was thinking is it the new society that he
12:00
wakes up to oh that's true ends up destroying it right but he's the the I
12:05
can't remember the terms now the Catalyst for change yeah he's the one uh raging against the the system and stuff
12:11
he's not the uh the mar the Brando the Marlin Brando oh my God that's you know because that's what I was the innocent
12:17
one that is willing to join the the institution right but he's the other one that's asking all the questions yeah
12:24
Randall Roy that's what I thought was at the end of it with the the institutionalized was it was you burned
12:31
it down you join it you burn it down commit suicide and he learned it down yeah yeah you get a little bit dirty you
12:38
get it yeah you get a lot cleaner yeah I mean I'm not saying it's a perfect and solution
12:44
could be argued that way yeah because yeah if you I mean I'm interested I'm interested to see what you say about Buddy love because I was like yeah well
12:50
all right so I'm gonna start off with this and then you can tell me if I'm wrong and then show me how I'm wrong I
12:56
think I I called this initially a two-hander with two sets of Beats that United the fun and game so I think you
13:01
o set up with with Spartan in:13:07
then you have this extensive setup of modern Los Angeles essentially focusing on uh Huxley Sandra Bullock's character
13:14
and and her setup and I think I think her setup has a set of Beats and I think his setup setup has a set of Beats and
13:21
they meet at the Fun and Games part so at that point I'm like okay this is a two-hander so these two characters are
13:26
going to be paired it's you know Mark it's it's Riggs and murtal and and all that and so so I was disappointed about
13:33
how they actually wound that up yeah because it doesn't work as well was Riggs and Myrtle and well I think it
13:39
could have but she's not on the poster and and there's the ending it's true anyway so I have initially a two-handed
13:45
with two sets of Beats that United the fun of games okay now and I said essentially there are only the following beats in this story two sets of opening
13:52
images one for Spartan one for Huxley two sets of setup one for Spartan one for Oxley a theme that we'll talk about
13:58
that in a second two sets of catalysts Spartan and Huxley uh two sets of break into two Spartan Huxley and then the fun
14:05
and games I said absent are the following beats and I could not identify any of these beats and so that's why I'm
14:12
very interested as we go through this to see if you were able to I couldn't locate a b story a midpoint a bad guys
14:17
close in all his lost Dark Knight breaking the three or final image that mirrors the opening image couldn't find any of that essentially this movie to me
14:24
is the breaking of two and the next because that it breaks into two for both of them or the fun and games for both of
14:31
them start at 48 minutes the rest of the movie is to me fun and games was not able to identify any clear demarcations
14:38
there for instance well we'll get into it I don't think there's ever a time when Spartan has a a setback that he has
14:45
to dig deep down I don't think there's ever a time when he suffers a loss that that causes him to get introspective uh
14:52
anyway but I'd be very interested to see what you all think about that if it was a if it was a different kind of movie
14:59
then what you're what were you calling it a buddy love yes if it was a
15:04
different movie like institutionalized would you've been able to find those plot points do you think
15:09
institutionalizes the genre but you're still gonna have you're 15 being okay so there's not a different little set of
15:15
rules for one versus the other no the way Blake Center reviews it is like all movies can be broken into one of these
15:22
10 categories right so the monster in the house institutional attitude with the problem all that and then you have your 15 beats but your 15 beats are in
15:29
present and every single one of those uh genres okay that makes sense yes you
15:34
always have a b story and you know you know that kind of thing and I think she's if we're looking here I think
15:40
Huxley is his Beast Boy well if it's a buddy love and institutionalized makes a lot of sense but theoretically Huxley
15:46
and Spartan should be the B stories for each other yeah yeah they should help each other yeah because you know like
15:51
the classic example is Lethal Weapon yeah Briggs and Murtaugh murtal is feeling old uh Riggs is feeling Crazy by
15:59
the end of the movie he doesn't feel so old uh he's not as crazy yeah but she's already like halfway there because of
16:05
her um her love for Nostalgia and she's already halfway there like especially
16:10
for institutionalized it's it's a it's an and it is Brando like the guy was thinking of it's called they call it Brando baseball brand yeah the the
16:17
Brando role is uh versus the system right versus the company man yeah well
16:22
like Benjamin uh brat would be almost be the more company man right I mean he's silly and he's not you know what I mean
16:29
like because she's already halfway there he's fully accompanied man and yeah she enjoys the Oscar Meyer hot dog song too
16:34
but she likes the the stuff from the she would have to have she would be has to be she's unhappy with her world or
16:41
whatever yes she'd have to be completely rooted in that world and go no this is the way Society needs to be this is an
16:46
improvement over what you what you lived in Spartan and she's not that way she's she's bored and I mean we're opening
16:51
images the calling the calling the warden or whatever asking about make sure everything's safe and man I want to
16:56
kill for somebody sure yes no uh so yeah kind of yeah I guess doesn't work maybe
17:01
it's to do with the problem but well I feel like there's more going on than just I do with the problem too at least
17:07
they tried to make more guns yes no I think I think it's it's smart sci-fi on some levels in terms of maybe a
17:13
commentary on society but I think for sure that it's more and I don't know if it was trying to be goofy or trying to
17:19
be a comedy because it is very enjoyable to watch in terms of comedy and and that kind of thing but one of the the earlier
17:26
drafts were more serious yeah one of the writers that came in later yeah sure well that was the other thing yeah because it's it's written by and and
17:33
yeah so there's three separate guys who never really talked sure yeah there's no writing they're punching it all up yeah
17:39
they didn't write together yeah all right so this is my take at no point of Spartan ever in any real trouble there
17:45
is no team he assembles the storm the castle and break into three this is the ending and and and we can talk about
17:50
when we get there but the two-hander becomes a one-hander when Spartan removes Huxley from the action by running her unconscious for which she
17:56
thanks him I want us to talk about that either when we get to it yeah yeah
18:01
oh my God Society is rendered corrected by Spartan who says the scraps the underground and the residents of San
18:07
Angelos should meet somewhere in the middle and you'll figure it out so I think it this is I think a symptom of
18:13
the entire movie Very simplistic almost in a lot of its choices like really overly simplistic yeah yeah sure and
18:19
it's choices and then of course you know uh Harrison Ford's words always come back it's not that kind of movie kid and
18:25
I don't think it is uh I think it's a fun popcorn movie and and that's what it
18:31
is oh yeah I'd agree with that just popcorn movie because I was thinking the same thing is is this the whole world or
18:37
is this just San Angeles yeah like is it his own little pocket cult area everywhere else is yeah
18:44
start asking questions and then yeah you can't ask questions in this the man that was the who that was his creation or
18:52
whatever oh the Dr Raymond cocktail cocktail which I the name I absolutely
18:57
could not get over I looked up how to spell it and it's spelled you know t-e-a-u as a character but my God anyway
19:03
all right so we any other thoughts about this movie before we get into you know the opening images and beats and all
19:09
that hopefully you guys have some that I don't because I like I said was a little bit of a loss any other thoughts no all
19:15
un and games opening image is:19:22
his first words Spartans are you know we're here to do good deeds so he is Action Hero just you know saving lives
19:29
doing good deeds is so it was the helicopter pilot that he's talking to that ends up being the older man it's
19:35
later so I yeah that's when we see him for the first time as the helicopter pilot yeah yes
19:41
wish they'd set that up a little bit more like have give us a little bit more with him being younger right and
19:46
established like helicopter palette yeah like give us his name at least as the younger guy like if they did I missed it
19:51
but I feel like yeah like except they're gonna have this relationship kind of later on grenad the the older guy kind
19:56
of disappears you know sending Rob Schneider if we'll get to that later where he completely disappears for the third you know for the third third act
20:02
but um uh yeah I guess uh but yes James Roy That's the older guy that knows about Spartan yes and and there's it's
20:08
revealed in some comment you know they finally grounded me and right when I met you you know when I knew you or just not
20:14
knows that whatever yeah uh they now I think I think it becomes overly
20:20
simplistic in a lot of places but I think it consciously addresses issues that it knows you're going to have by by
20:26
these throwaway lines sure there's this whole like so there's they well I guess we'll get in we'll get into the Catalyst
20:32
uh opening image for Huxley I deal like almost childlike somewhat dissatisfied with her life and job uh no action
20:38
nothing to do and then literally saying what I wouldn't do for some action uh contrast with Spartans Maniac comment
20:44
below she's in:20:50
dystopian La I guess is uh the way to have it yeah you know so her Ordinary World her setup her opening images she's
20:57
bored and wants some action contrasting uh Spartan's opening image which is you
21:02
know do good deeds and and action so I I thought up until the fun and games I
21:08
think it was working yeah in terms of of being a good buddy love partner you know
21:14
rig zimmerta situation yeah I like the the setup of the movie a lot like it's you know it's 96 right the dystopian he
21:21
you know is trying to he's the only guy that can bring down this you know this criminal this crazy criminal you know Simon Phoenix
21:27
um and he brings him down but he uh you know I guess ends up going to jail too because of the the kids the the busload
21:34
of uh I don't know if they were kids or Just well tourists involuntary manslaughter like yeah because Phoenix has already killed him but he set it up
21:40
and he's like yeah I told him he didn't care you know right now we've done more with that like you can see that he rushes in right like Stallone rushes in
21:47
but his first thing as soon as he sees Phoenix is where are the passengers right like he's clearly concerned about them and he even says he did a thermal
21:53
scan you know I did thermal Scan they weren't there but I wish they were already does that mean they were dead already yeah
21:59
okay later on the movie said that Phoenix tells Spartan yeah during the
22:04
car chase and the police car and he's holding him outside the window he's like yeah he reveals to him Phoenix had said well he's talking to
22:12
him the police department got the message not to come down here the post office got the message does come to here
22:17
but the bus drivers did right but I figured I figured the bus drivers would be the first ones
22:23
so the setup so yeah those are the opening images that they contrast I thought that worked uh set up Spartan
22:29
dystopian La violent dark gritty copper catches Maniacs Phoenix the current Maniac he says Maniac send a maniac to
22:36
catch one yes yeah I actually uh okay so in in absence of any other that's I'm
22:42
I'm calling that the theme do you need a maniac to catch a maniac because you have the and so that's the point you
22:48
want to argue and then of course you have utopian LA and these cops Schneider even says police officers we're not
22:54
trained for this level yeah so violence yeah which is good
23:09
yes so so they didn't argue do you need a maniac
23:14
to catch a maniac well here's people who aren't maniacs and they're not doing so good so maybe you do so that
23:19
that's that is all I can figure out for the theme I'd sure yeah now this movie is a lot of fun the
23:27
the yelling Captain is the actual captain from Lethal Weapon yes yes Captain Healy uh in 96 yes yeah yes
23:35
right yes in 96 yes I'm tired of this Demolition Man crap yeah there's the
23:41
name I know yeah that's the uh yeah that's that's the standard action 80s 90s action beat the yelling
23:48
Captain tired of your antics you know yeah it wouldn't you know lots of property damage by the hero yes
23:54
things get demolished uh he has spent two years chasing Phoenix and his MO is he gets his man but things get
24:00
demolished this is the setup for Spartan and then the theme like I said send a maniac to catch a maniac lots of uh
24:06
throwaway action lines you know yelling Phoenix as he's jumping out of the cops sure slow-mo runs with explosions that's
24:14
what Jerry said of course he has to run with an explosion I don't think so slow that Heroes that's blown up behind him
24:20
t up for Huxley uh utopian La:24:27
known as the scraps led by Mr friendly his people are starving Huxley obsessed with 80s
24:33
uh height of the action error you know anybody bad anything bad for you is deemed illegal what I don't think it's
24:38
necessarily just 80s it's like hitting in the 20th century yeah because yeah well that's true yeah because uh at
24:43
least what she has the least lethal weapons three poster yeah it was the same year I think 92 or 93 years yeah yeah okay yeah I thought three was the
24:50
odd Choice like well because I think it Richard Donner oh is that right yeah that's true yeah
24:56
silver Joseph yeah they produced those and and this yeah yeah anything bad for you is deemed
25:03
illegal now this I was a big fan of her in this movie her character uh I I wrote she is actually
25:11
in the setup I wrote she is actually the smartest person in the room she is tough can fight as well as Spartan and
25:16
resourceful the only one who thinks to find a way back uh who thinks to and finds a way to track the escaped Phoenix
25:22
which makes what Spartan does to her in the end a real missed opportunity and baffling but then I wrote but shut up
25:27
and eat your popcorn so in a lot of ways Huxley is the smartest most capable person in
25:34
the room at any given time yeah and she's trying to do stuff like before they thaw Stallone out yeah she's the
25:40
one that you know he takes out the cameras so she thinks to go further out get the cameras and zoom in and then yeah she knows a lot of I mean it she's
25:47
setting up the rules of the world for the audience right but a lot of the stuff she's saying in that scene but it's hidden very well yes no
25:52
yeah that scene works a lot absolutely I don't think we talk about Phoenix enough Wesley Snipes as Simon Phoenix is a lot
25:58
of fun like yeah you could tell he was having a [ __ ] ton of fun in this movie yes they had to block around him because
26:05
he would never sit down and stop moving in this movie like when they were filming he there was never a time like
26:10
he was just I don't know that it was required but he was just so amped up that he it was always movement never
26:16
sitting down so they just started having to block around him and try to shoot him nice Jackie Chan was offered this movie
26:22
as Phoenix but he was like my fans don't want to see me as bad guy and I still can't see that no I I can't picture that
26:28
in my head I'm having a really hard time not that Jackie Chan can't play a bad guy just right read that too and I'm like really Jackie Chan is something I
26:34
just I can't pick no I I think I think Snipes was the guy now Jackie Chan's in a movie where his daughter gets killed I
26:40
haven't seen it but before yeah and it looks actually dark and gray you know Revenge flake so he's not the bad guy in
26:47
that but he's definitely capable of you know dark and gritty yeah in the setup Phoenix we learn is a
26:54
is a tool of cocktail to eliminate his own Nemesis Mr friendly for messing up his pretty city so this is the setup
27:00
essentially for hustle Huxley the world she lives in yeah because he uh he breaks out um uh he knows passwords and stuff that
27:08
he shouldn't know breaks out of the crowd of prison and then he goes down to the street and he finds like almost like this I don't know
27:14
ATM with internet type thing right just weird like kiosk that he's at and I don't know it's those some of my
27:20
favorite lines is when he starts typing oh damn I'm possessed yeah it's like he's surprised too that he you know he has to play the accordion too yeah
27:26
that's right damn can I play the accordion right yeah he's surprised to have these abilities I showed that scene to lathe because they're
27:33
because there's a citizen that's there talking to his kiosk at first and he's like I just don't feel well today right
27:39
right yeah and he throws him out of there or whatever but like because I told like this is this is where we're
27:44
headed oh yeah you know yeah I'm ready to get into that or not but well that's definitely we're headed you know Sherry
27:51
mentioned anybody for anything so it's all going to be be well citizen sure and and
27:56
it's I understand why the the that it was up for some Saturn awards for like best because sci-fi at its best should
28:03
be prophetic and it should be your commentary yeah and I think I think I
28:08
think the screenplay is smart in in that sense uh you have back in 93 there there wasn't Alexa
28:15
right that no you know everything is voice activated self-driving cars uh this whole notion of because this was
28:24
the second time when I was watching with Sherry that it it caught my ear they're singing the armor Hot Dog Song and uh
28:29
you know all kids like this even [ __ ] kids did you catch this line in the armor Hot Dog Song in [ __ ] kids Smart
28:35
Kids Tough kids even [ __ ] kids like armor I'm like I guess I did yeah this is funny and I think I hear it now that
28:41
you said that yeah and I think that's the real commercial like I don't think that's yeah and that's funny that this
28:46
world wouldn't bleep it out though right you know that's true yeah because we didn't bleep it out in 93 yeah wouldn't
28:52
that be something if now in:28:58
demolitions because that's what they're doing man you know right that's funny I meant like a demolition world like the
29:04
:29:12
it was only the second time I heard him like why you can't say that you know it's just so wild yeah so wild yes but
29:18
but there are it is it almost prophetic like you were saying right in that sense uh so I think I think on its core level
29:26
it it was a fairly intelligent swear machines getting fun yeah swearing anywhere in public yeah that running gag
29:32
was because because even like in the distant background you can yeah I always laughed at that
29:46
Phoenix Phoenix is a response that's probably like my favorite when he you know because he's there same scene he's at the kiosk what [ __ ] you and then uh
29:54
you know I don't remember how many times he does it but then the police are coming like as soon as he says this place have been notified and then he
30:00
immediately hears the sirens because they're already on their way yeah oh [ __ ] are fast too you hear it and go
30:05
off again yeah just the way he did it I loved Stallone up there just cussing it whispering Whispering so that he could
30:13
have so he can wipe his ass did you catch up genius did you catch all these at some point uh he calls the machine a
30:20
duck [ __ ] no I didn't hear that no here he goes he goes thanks a lot you [ __ ] brain [ __ ] face ball breaking duck
30:26
[ __ ] pain in the ass yeah okay John Spartan you were fined five
30:32
credits for repeated violation I was like okay I get all those others but
30:41
I guess oh my God yeah so that's what I'm saying I think
30:49
the movie starts to fall apart structurally but I enjoyed the whole movie you have to go in realizing what
30:56
you're getting and not expect something else all right so that's the setup for both of them any other thoughts on their
31:03
worlds and yeah just uh his uh Spartan his name being Spartan you could tell though oh yeah the Spartans are the
31:09
toughest Fighters and this kind of thing well that and just like the if you're Spartan about your life like you you
31:15
don't know oh yeah yeah right and he was against all the luxury and all the easiness of the new Society sure sure
31:21
yeah I feel like that was well the other one was Huxley yes
31:26
Brave New World Brave New World okay I actually I didn't get as far as Brave
31:32
New World because I'm like Huxley okay does that mean something so I I asked uh Alex about you know Aldous Huxley and
31:39
first I thought did he write:31:45
that was uh Orwell Orwell uh said well Huxley could that be a reference to Aldous Huxley and then when it just gave
31:51
me his bomb like yeah probably not uh but Brave New World yeah no that Nails it that's absolutely yeah then you got
31:56
Edgar friendly who yeah who's the beggar yeah yes they're built as the because
32:03
cocktail obviously wants to take control of this I don't know how you could have more control than he already has he but
32:10
he his game is to get rid of friendly yeah so that he can really take control friendly Zoo stealing stuff yeah and and
32:16
so they're building these terrorists and I think the reveal is that they're just they're hungry and they're just stealing food well I like that I don't look for
32:22
something to eat I don't know if I read too deep into it but cocktail releasing Simon Phoenix is it just like hey I've
32:29
got this little problem we can release one of these criminals and have him just handle it and then we can take care of
32:35
the criminal did he not realize who Simon Phoenix was well like just this
32:40
madman now he's released Frankenstein's monster yeah um yeah I don't know what cocktail's
32:46
plan was to get rid of this he had to put Phoenix back you know it's like you know you get a snake to take care of the
32:52
rats now you got a snake problem you know yeah I guess he thought he was good because well this guy can't ever hurt me
32:57
you know like he's a program where he could shoot him or whatever almost like a like a Robocop type thing
33:04
I laughed so hard when I said uh you didn't expect him to recruit other
33:09
people and someone else see the Ventura sure yeah
33:14
and then uh the chief uh Bob gunton uh Chief George Earl he's the guy that played in uh Ghostbusters afterlife he
33:23
was oh yeah yeah the guy that played the chief was oh what's his name held Ramos
33:29
yeah which blows my mind that actor they they used that actor to do Egon yeah it blows my mind away yeah
33:36
just it's awesome yeah anyways I'm sorry Phil no no well yeah because because he raised he raises Phoenix to take care of
33:43
friendly and it kind of bites him in the ass because then they raise Spartan to take care of Phoenix which he yeah I
33:49
don't think he anticipated this no I don't think that I don't think so either yeah yeah it's like he grabbed a flamethrower to take care of some ants
33:56
and now everything's on fire right yes Spartans so that's the setup for huckling Spartan the Catalyst for
34:02
Spartan uh initially I thought it was probably around the time that he was getting out of cryo but as I watched it
34:09
a second time I'm picking this Catalyst for Spartan as uh the missing hostages are all dead killed by Phoenix but
34:16
Spartan is charged uh with involuntary manslaughter sentenced to 70 years in cryo so I think that's really where his
34:22
call to action begins I I'm picking it as him being charged with involuntary
34:28
manslaughter kicking him into his heading towards the uh you sound really
34:33
confident about that well I I I the way that you're saying it and looking at it because I'm waiting for Chris to say no
34:39
no it's this okay I I like I said I'm being thought out you put Phoenix away now you're being I
34:45
think yeah well I think that's your cows because it's it's yeah let's go back in the fridge that's his
34:51
choice and so he breaks into two but sure but but it's choosing to embrace this you know try to survive in this
34:58
weird new world and stop Phoenix yeah yes but but I think the catalyst is the hostage is not necessarily him no I
35:04
think it's him being thought out because he was he was frozen not doing [ __ ] you know yeah I think that's just part of the
35:09
setup is the right well I'm just getting both these guys in the future well we got to freeze them or something right something you know yeah because you're
35:16
you're opening and closing images you got the building on fire and then you have everything Frozen well that's true
35:22
yeah that's a good point I didn't think about the fire of the ice thing yeah yeah
35:28
all right people because because the debate is going to be another mummy situation here Phil well yeah because
35:34
like his because his opening all right so his opening is being a rogue and above the law and being hauled away
35:40
right being arrested for a crime you can't commit closing him when she gets to kiss the girl and he's walk away being celebrated
35:46
um right even though he's just messed up Society yeah right well yes but his ordinary world is catch back guys and
35:52
this except for him being charged with involuntary manslaughter he never would have been froze it's a Super Saiyan okay
36:00
um I think I think his debate yeah you're fine being frozen is this Catalyst yeah all right and then uh
36:07
ing frozen and thought out in:36:13
that's your callus because his breaking two has got to be yeah when he finds back in the fridge I'm going to I'm
36:19
going after Phoenix yeah when he finds out cocktail is behind it like once he sees the Phoenix and cocktailers
36:24
together I think that's your break into two area okay that that again I don't
36:29
know [ __ ] about [ __ ] well this I think this movie it's essentially a setup with fun and games so that's why I guess I
36:35
struggled that's why I was hoping you guys were able to nail it and and I have him finding out about cocktail like
36:40
that's bad guys closing like that's oh my God okay all right yeah I never got that far yeah that's when he he uh sorry
36:46
we haven't got there yet but I'm thinking the defrosting his crew okay yeah that's all bad guys close in yeah
36:53
okay okay to me yeah no no I'm not saying they were Rock Solid it
36:59
was just you just take it beat by beat and tear down what Philip thought right well the second act and then I'm off the
37:05
rails all right so James goes again [Laughter] all right uh not one lesson pop
37:14
all right that's the countless part countless for Huxley I have Phoenix with some assistance from Cocktail escapes
37:19
and commits 11 murder death kills with no other capable resources it is suggested by Spartans old helicopter
37:26
pilot that Spartan may be the answer so I'm picking this is huxley's catalyst because it Spurs her to recommend that
37:34
they they get this guy yeah because they ask like what did you do back in the 20th to to catch Simon Phoenix oh we
37:41
release you know yeah so that's what I'm picking is huxley's
37:47
catalyst that gets her thinking uh debate for Spartan now there's I think
37:52
there's precious little okay so he's being marched into cryo and obviously he doesn't want to go to cryo but he
37:59
marches fairly briskly and willingly to his sentence I don't know that there was ever
38:05
I I guess and so if the movie was more at the beginning when it's being frozen yes uh because
38:11
like I said I'm putting these together but there's a whole set of Beats you know opening image debate for Spartan
38:17
and then there's a whole opening image debate blah blah blah for Huxley so I'm I guess I'm comparing these two he
38:23
submits to his sentence uh understandably not happy about it uh I said it lacks any real dark dig deep
38:30
down introspective beats so there is none here there like in a more serious sci-fi I think
38:36
you would have seen even just a montage of the trial and him protesting and struggling against this and demanding
38:42
you know his innocence and and being found guilty and marched off to CR I
38:48
mean I see what you're saying but I think that only works if that's the Catalyst right because like think about like yeah sure yeah Tango and cash right
38:54
when their catalyst is for sure getting framed and going to jail okay yeah yeah so you see the trial you see all the
39:01
stuff and you know we have the great moment we're not reviewing this movie but we had a great moment with uh Kurt
39:06
Russell's character we think he's gonna say something elegant and he's like yeah this whole thing [ __ ] sucks you know right I mean so it's yes that's their
39:13
cow so I don't think this is their like this is just set up man we got to freeze this guy so we can throw them out in the future yeah it's it's a catalyst for the
39:20
writer to figure out you know what I mean it's just uh yes how do we get this guy in the future yeah we we as the
39:26
audience know that Simon Phoenix played a game on him in French yes very quickly
39:31
it's not I think he's pissed because he's [ __ ] that stupid
39:38
like he's just pissed and yeah I guess I'm sure he did do everything he could to try to you know I'm sure he said all
39:43
kinds of stuff during the trial maybe maybe this world Spartan is the one saying this whole thing [ __ ] sucks and yeah because that institution that
39:50
he was in sucked it obviously crumbled after the the big one or whatever yeah
39:55
the society after that sucked yeah so now huxley's bringing back the guy that
40:00
thought the other thing sucked and yeah I don't know so so at various points I had to remind myself it's not
40:06
that kind of movie in a movie uh I have no interest in adding any real Humanity to these characters so no trial scenes
40:12
no egg scenes marches rather quickly to his punishment his only final words are skip it and in my mind I'm I'm saying
40:19
the movie is saying hurry up this is a slow scene we need to get to the action kind of thing which is yes yes we're
40:25
f the setup to get to the the:40:31
all that stuff right yeah like it's gonna be three hours long well it was two hours I mean
40:36
yeah let's do her okay we've been doing a half you know like that's really long well to take a play from Costa Costa
40:43
don't give a flying [ __ ] how long a movie is he's going to tell the movie to make a good story I don't know that because I think at the end of this movie
40:50
you wind up thinking man that was some good popcorn and a lot of flashy stuff I'm feeling gassy
40:55
which is fine but uh and and I don't want to review a movie they didn't make
41:01
but you know sure you could have made something substantial here it didn't have to be yeah but if you're making
41:06
bubble gum they did a damn good job so I feel like we have that beat that you're talking about right him him right you
41:12
know raising against the the circumstances and in the trial and this is [ __ ] Roblox yeah when he wakes up
41:17
like it's a brief when he wakes up he's all pissed off hold on y'all I don't remember his exactly he's like y'all
41:23
thought me out to put away a guy that already [ __ ] did for you yes right and my family everything I knew is [ __ ] gone yeah that's I mean that is
41:30
his moment of what you're well it's not even a full moment okay half a moment yeah
41:35
um anyway I said which is fine Marlboro uh a cigarette any cigarette I said if you want to see things blow up here cool
41:41
lines and eat your popcorn this is the movie for you and and what I was never bored and I never didn't enjoy myself
41:48
but you wanted more I I I I I yes I I thought you could have made this yeah I
41:53
mean anyway uh so this is what I'm talking about the debate I think carries over into his Awakening so you have the
41:59
I think crosses the line from:42:05
now you got me rewriting this thing because yeah it would have been cool to have a moment after he wakes up everything's gone yes right and I think
42:12
they should just kill the daughter off because they established she's alive because there was nothing ever happened to me too yeah they never yeah kill them
42:18
both off if you're not gonna have him ever reunite with her but yeah for his debate he stalled out he goes I mean we
42:24
could have had a scene of him in the graveyard looking at both there yes they're tombstones but in the extended scene she is alive yeah they had scenes
42:30
they cut them no I know that right but you you [ __ ] that up then take the line out that she even exists you know yeah the scene where they're underground
42:38
or whatever the lady that when the shooting starts and he grabs and pulls down the lady with the long hair that's
42:44
his daughter oh really yeah excuse me she was in there yeah yeah I read that yeah thank you for the reminder James
42:49
yeah yeah so yeah they put it kind of cool they could have taken it out missed opportunities but when I was a kid the
42:54
whole time I was like oh his daughter is Sandra Bullock like that's gonna be the big reveal at the end yeah and then they
43:01
have their sex and the thing I'm like okay that's gonna be real weird if they find out yeah well no that would have
43:07
that would have fit it because she would she would have been cut from the same cloth I mean yeah that would have been cool but then you had the sexual tension
43:13
and then you sure well I think that was put in there because we got bombs and explosions we gotta have
43:20
yeah so it was kind of Sylvester Stallone Sandra Bullock love story or father daughter story well we'd rather
43:26
see the love story with explosions yeah love yeah anyway
43:31
the debate carries over into his Awakening which is in what is probably the second act I'm saying he wakes up in
43:37
the second act is what I'm saying tells them forget it but accepts the call because it's better than going back in
43:42
the cross so his whole debate is is a sentence or two yeah that's right because they tell him like you either do
43:49
it or you go back right yes um so there's not much of a debate right and for Huxley there is no debate you
43:55
could reinstate him the only real debate is on the part of Chief Earl who calls him animal caveman primate Savage and
44:02
the Android I don't think he ever calls him right Spartan or John but what caveman you know wouldn't that Captain
44:07
have been alive possibly in the service of some point in his life because the
44:14
captain's what in his 56. he's probably just a little younger than the pilot right that's only if he was been on the
44:19
force that whole time so that he was an accountant or some [ __ ] that means he's he's at least my age now sure which
44:25
means he would have been 10 or 15. he would have remembered John Spartan in La doing all those Demolition Man there
44:30
there are some story
44:53
it's not that kind of movie because when 187 code one and I mean even Sherry said
44:58
in that murder like everybody knows what what 87 is it's murder yeah uh nobody no uh
45:03
Huxley had to look it up yeah last time somebody was killed was like 15 years ago sure but [ __ ] look it up which is
45:09
fine but then you got the helicopter pilot who was around he doesn't say oh 187 is a murder you know he just sort of
45:14
smiles and lets her look it up he's not like oh [ __ ] yeah we hadn't had one of those because we had to see Huxley doing
45:21
her thing on the computer so right it's not that kind of movie I'm fine with that but you can't praise the fact that
45:26
she was doing all the cool things and then knocking at the same time because yeah it's just right but story logic wise yeah the old dudes in the room
45:32
should have [ __ ] known what it was and been like oh that's a you know it should have been him starting it you know yes and and but you still hurt
45:39
Thunder if you're a cop you should know all the codes regardless of
45:47
it would have been more credit to her if she was like 187 nobody else knows 187
45:53
that's a murder because she's done all this research you know you did you read my study and this kind of thing so anyway uh I still think she was probably
46:01
the smartest most capable person in the room how about Rob Schneider he doesn't know about the seashells
46:07
yeah uh breaking the two Huxley Spartan is
46:13
thought out and she has partnered with him okay so I wrote here we have what could be a progressive and fun two-hander uh that I think is completely
46:20
gutted in the end in my opinion breaking the two for Spartan lamenting his wife I said for about 90 seconds he learns the
46:27
Phoenix and accepts the call because you know anyway and despite his daughter still being alive he refuses any
46:34
inclination to see her again she undoubted now this against not that kind of movie but it did pull me out
46:40
his daughter is alive Spartan made the news had to yeah res renting a cop from the 90s all the
46:46
action his daughter never comes to the station and slaps his face I don't know anything
46:52
well James answered that because she's down in the gutters yeah she's not part of the new Society but it was we don't
46:58
know that right no we don't and it was it was cut out that's what I'm saying never either do something with that storyline or cut it entirely well then
47:05
they it was sensitive words they should have skipped it they're in the car and she was like it might be a minor uh
47:12
misuse of police power but I can find her address or whatever and he stops they turned it into a moment about
47:17
contact you know as opposed to yeah moment about his daughter yeah uh makes
47:22
no effort so yeah they're clearly they were estranged you know because yeah he didn't uh want to reach out to her and
47:27
she didn't care that he made it well he thought that yeah we don't know that there was ever a riff but he just says I
47:33
don't know that she'd want to have me be part you know a throwaway line because they knew they had to address it
47:39
anyway yeah but not that kind of movie I'm so dumb I should have killed her right yeah absolutely they both died in
47:45
the big one yeah seemingly next of kin would I I again block the daughter which is not the way
47:51
they wanted to go but yeah right but if if Spartan is being released I mean living next to a kid I thought
47:57
would have been notified as well right I mean this yeah you know in a room this is summarily ruled out by Chief Earl
48:04
saying we did not wake you up for a family reunion and I wrote shut up and eat my popcorn got it uh yeah that's
48:09
definitely what that line was for sure yes all right so we're coming to the end of my tracks and then I'm hoping what
48:16
about Phoenix's mom man what about his wife what about his brother sure were they notified uh I I don't know uh B
48:23
story The I think in any two-hander obviously the characters should be each other's Agent of Change uh here I think
48:30
the beat is fuzzy and gutted by the unexplicable ending it ain't Huxley on the yeah bro it ain't actually on the
48:36
poster that's why anyway we'll get to that it's Spartan and Phoenix on the poster not Huxley uh and so I wrote it
48:43
was like it was like oh [ __ ] we developed what could possibly be a character with some depth quick Spartan knock her out yeah you know yeah we got
48:50
this problem there's a character who's got some depth and capability what do we what do we do with her oh just take her out of the whole third act or whatever
48:57
yeah um it was even worse than that to me it was oh you know a female that
49:03
can't handle it nope knock her out make sure she's safe [ __ ] that's after she'd just proven that she had just literally
49:13
yeah I don't get it it's Ruby like we've had females kicking ass in cinema since the 70s right and all through the 80s so
49:20
but in this one Zac Brown you know what's her name exactly so after she after she kicks ass oh nope dude's gonna
49:25
go yeah and save it let's put your own good yeah it's never been so much better if he knocks her out because especially
49:31
if they're gonna try to show change right he knocks her out and then she wakes up and ends up saving his ass the
49:37
whole time in the final battle was with with uh Phoenix the whole time I'm thinking you dumb mother you know if you
49:44
had a partner yeah that would have been better anyway which I shouldn't be saying you shouldn't be thinking those
49:49
but yeah the action scenes were good and I enjoyed that he doesn't change so is he is flat art I don't think he changes
49:55
yeah but he doesn't change he changed the world yeah I guess yeah okay but
50:01
yeah that's what I was thinking too he's I mean it's all other than he can knit and all that which we've never seen him
50:08
well no he doesn't he does he does yeah yeah and licked a lot of ass I mean kick blood ass right so that I mean yeah that
50:15
that always very fun job and shoveling yeah close enough I enjoyed her character and it was set up I think to
50:23
be this two-handed partner deal because she yells at the thing you know I wanted 90 seconds to go and yeah you know I
50:30
don't know I I anyway I thought that I think that they realized oh my God we
50:36
got her but it's a Stallone movie so we gotta take her out she was new at the
50:41
time he's the draw right sure sure I mean I'm not saying there's any shoes for what they did it was just trying to understand yeah maybe that would make
50:48
sense maybe she wasn't big enough to handle Sandra Bullock wasn't the big enough
50:53
star power well no I'm sure that's a third pack yeah uh like I said her face was not on the poster you know so that's
50:59
interesting though because a year later yeah speed like she very much helps him every so he no point does he go hey let
51:06
me knock you out I got no right like they do it together I would be willing to baseball you know yeah I'd be willing
51:12
to bet no one would know about Keanu Reeves if that was the script he'd be like no no no no we're not that's not
51:17
you know I don't think that I think that it was I don't want to say smarter running because I think the writing was good here they just I think were forced
51:24
by other agencies to Sure sort of yeah maybe there was more to it and the producers like no no no no three writers
51:30
I would like to have read that script by the first guy yeah just to see uh because it could have been and I and I
51:37
think that's probably not what they were going for but it could have been a darker edgier piece of sci-fi sure uh
51:45
Minority Report yes uh could have been very much but I don't think that's what they wanted Stallone didn't want that I
51:52
think he wanted but I got Muslims to blow up man you know I mean anyway damn uh but but but
51:59
that's not to say that Sloan can't do weighty stuff because he has you want an Oscar for a freaking Rocky right anyway
52:04
we're reviewing the movie they made not the movie we wish they made anyway that's the B story of the fun and games
52:10
with both characters joined at around the 48 minute Mark they move together into the fun games which is the last beat in this movie in my opinion
52:16
covering the rest of the movie all 72 minutes of it so every other scene all I guess 23 of them I wrote down so I think
52:23
it's all fun and games I cannot figure out a time Taco Bell's fun and games yes because the friendlies attack right
52:29
yeah toilet paper shells armor hot dogs fight at the Museum No Kiss Kiss Bang Bang I thought was cool did that come
52:36
out before or after was that before Kiss Kiss Bang Bang yes after I think it's an old saying but the movie yeah
52:42
sorry no Kiss Kiss Bang Bang I'm like it's an old saying like I think it references the 40s or 30s
52:49
I don't know if it was reference to the movie I thought that that's yeah yeah talking about Robert Downey Jr and Val
52:54
Kilmer yes so Shane black yeah that was way later matched his beat looked his ass
52:59
uh Taco Bell Schwarzenegger joke Mr friendly comes dinner Phoenix talks with cocktail would you like to have sex
53:06
Spartan learns about cocktail all these are the the movies Spartan Hooks and Garcia visits the underground rat Burger
53:11
Spartan meets friendly Phoenix staff at the staff meeting you know so basically the rest of the movie I'm listening is
53:17
as set pieces in fun and games so I now I need to be corrected about this because I would like to know if there
53:22
was yeah yeah go ahead Chris it was never a setback never dig deep
53:29
down never uh I'm not even sure there wasn't a really good like always lost and and uh I looked Dark Knight or
53:36
whatever to me but like I definitely had midpoint like I have him being invited by cocktail to to Taco Bell as a as a
53:43
midpoint is a false Victory he's in this he's just in Neanderthal right yeah in the society he's the outcast and it's a
53:50
he's being invited by the mayor to the to the restaurant well yes right like he's being now it quickly gets turned
53:56
upside down and he realizes you know that the the the conversation is [ __ ] or whatever and he doesn't like
54:01
he's not I don't know thank you and then you know uh the friendly and
54:07
the the people show up or whatever and he goes out there beats them all up and then and learns and learns that they're just looking for some needs so now he's
54:12
that's because right after midpoint his bad guys close in right he's realizing okay these even in this world these
54:17
homeless people that are not terrorists are not they're not they're supposed to be the bad guys but they're not they're just a bunch of people looking for
54:23
something to eat and then and then from then on it's more bad guys goes into me yeah okay all right and then for those
54:29
last they kill cocktail the savior of society or whatever even though he was a douchebag and then Phoenix escaping
54:36
um right yeah and then going to the the Crowder prison to let out the Hummer and more people what about
54:42
um what'd you have James school let me get my notes what about the uh the first
54:48
place he's gonna go is the to get a weapon to get a gun yeah that's funny at
54:53
the Museum yeah absolutely yeah uh and then as soon as that happens he jumps out and finds cocktail points a gun at
55:00
him and kill him because he's been you know programmed so that would be a false
55:05
defeat for Phoenix sure but I guess I was mapping it from Sports
55:10
Martin sees that later on no yes Spartan chases him and loses oh yeah yeah I
55:16
think that's just back and forth yeah yes no in front and game stuff I don't think that's necessarily like a I think
55:22
it's too early for like okay but to me I mean it could be I guess but because I wasn't I for some reason on my TV when I
55:29
pause it I don't get to see time stamps yeah I don't know why so I don't know where it's at well I was very interested
55:36
to know because because almost an hour in I thought okay well now we've got everything set up and the breaking the
55:43
two which was late way late it should have been at 48 minutes you should be hitting the midpoint yeah there's a little bit of set up there well I'm just
55:49
thinking I'm fine with as far as the two-hander but then I'm thinking that break into two is them going to the museum to try to stop him so yeah that's
55:56
that's where I had uh the the break into two I guess is them going to the museum he's going to get a gun we got to stop
56:03
him here a clear break and then the fun and games he's accepted okay I'm
56:09
in this world now what do you mean you don't have guns I'm driving oh wait no I can't drive because it's a car seat
56:15
thing and that's thawed out and he didn't go back in the fridge he's embracing this yeah that's where I'm having the time how do I catch Phoenix
56:21
in this weird-ass world yeah okay you drive yeah and they listen to someone because yeah because the Oscar
56:27
Meyer songs and [ __ ] and he's in the back someone put me back in the fridge right and then you have the battle right
56:33
he escapes because it seems like they are storming a castle because I wanted to say okay well they're going yeah the
56:39
Big Show down to cry I was definitely breaking the three and like I have he goes in breaks into three alone because he knocks her out yes yes which is
56:45
ridiculous well no that would be the Hightower surprise guys oh okay because they they're he got the team
56:52
together they're going to stop everybody I guess that was another because I tried to map out the Five Points like we
56:58
didn't have a team yeah finally in them show up and then they do absolutely nothing right and and his one team
57:03
member he knocks out yeah as the Hightower surprise I guess I'm just I'm just put it
57:09
yeah I'm throwing [ __ ] because yeah it's a surprise to me why
57:15
the [ __ ] would he do that yeah and that wouldn't even work that would work even better if like I would buy him knocking
57:20
her out if he's got a partner at the beginning and Phoenix kills the partner right that he that he yes so then he
57:27
dropped because he just because he says I did to protect you right yes so then I can see him
57:38
oh I took him in another man's life maybe she he's protecting her from feeling bad about having to kill more
57:44
people but yeah she seems fine I mean even that would have been better he doesn't knock her out and she can't go
57:50
on she's sitting there so upset about it because right I've committed a murder death killer whatever you get her all
57:56
upset and he's gotta leave her hey I gotta go you know I gotta go chase Phoenix she gets her [ __ ] together and
58:01
comes and saves him later on yes but again you're rewriting this movie yeah and she's not on the poster and we came
58:07
to see this was like her first movie it should have been a poster sure uh
58:13
release the Sandra Bullock cut that's right the mistake is that they that they
58:19
created this character that was capable and was smart and but it's 93 nope it
58:25
might have been I don't know it might have been and then to like now this is looking at it from Modern Eyes I don't
58:31
know that we made but how it's sexist cringy is it that that was
58:37
my first take on it was whoa whoa you know that's what I'm saying we had we've had women kicking us since the 70s so
58:43
why in 93 they decided I'm the man I'm the guy on the poster you set this one
58:48
out and then because at the end you know she says uh but the first time I watched
58:53
it for review I remember her saying and then thank you for running me unconscious which I thought okay well
58:59
but but she and that's sarcastic about it yes and the second time I watched it she says we were a team I did it for
59:05
your own good right you know so she does utter some little bit of a protest that that we were supposed to be a team ever
59:11
since you said that it didn't run in my head now I'm hearing Stallone going because I'm the one on the poster Huxley yeah
59:18
and to me I thought that detracted from from what could have been an even better movies but they didn't want to make a a
59:24
serious piece I don't think not certainly with the gags and stuff in it which made it fun I don't put you on the
59:30
spot Sherry but did you did that bother you at all did you did you think about it I guess the way we're I think that
59:36
we're going too deep here and thinking too much about it no well the the funny thing is for some reason I had looked
59:42
down at that point in the movie and then I looked up and I was like what'd you just do yeah and I I totally missed it
59:48
and and then we got into the discussion about it then yeah yeah I was like yeah I don't understand but well you know
59:55
anyway it's not that kind of movie all right well maybe he didn't they knew
::how they were ending it with everything freezing what are you doing they
::it was the case that they had a character that they didn't know what to do with so that we we can't have her in
::the final scenes right yeah maybe the the final fight scene was already written
::and it's Stallone and Snipes going at it and sure big freezing thing and then
::it's like all right we're storming the castle Sandra Bullock's here [ __ ] she's not in the fight yeah no knock her out
::absolutely they had to have some way to get her out yeah out of all the other guys that he had right did Sloan take
::them all out like the other guys he had taken out right like because friendly shows up yeah yeah we're here to do something man and then they do nothing
::right there's this whole other like battle they're gonna have like this big huge battle against all these guys like
::the friendly and the the outcast people right yes because uh Benjamin uh brat
::right yeah yeah he joins up with him and then hey and then [ __ ] ain't what and that transition we never see that was
::you never see that again yeah you know it was cut out I don't know yeah it had
::to have been one bump on the head and you and they explained it with these one-liners yeah so they know right uh
::they're intelligent enough to know that okay well we've got to address this that's because I think James right I think they had this awesome third act
::they love like the the finale of Stallone and Snipes going at it yeah well [ __ ] we had all this stuff oh my
::God okay knock her out uh bump on the headline yeah that's the thing you gather the team
::storm the castle one guy yeah well yeah well and it would have been so it needs to be one-on-one
::there is this sense that he released 80 inmates so there was enough to go around right if you had this God damn I love
::that guy yeah I mean but he died like in 94 right yeah
::but you could have had the 80 inmates and and Snipes going against Stallone
::and his team in a battle royale I mean it it didn't have to be the monoamato except on the poster you have right
::these two faces and that's where yeah and you show all the cops like Rob Schneider and the rest of them yeah
::that's just a guy in the face and went oh man my hand or you have a freaking uh um Braveheart moment you know the or you
::know the Magnificent Seven where you rally The Peasant actually could have made like a big speech and sure swept the lines you know yes
::what was that one book that you sent me a long time ago is the rousing speech
::and we're gonna go up there and we're gonna take the hill and it's like take an excerpt right before the slaughter
::yeah I forgot what book that was oh my God actually up there we're gonna go up there we're gonna take it back back and
::they're all dead but I mean I think that could have worked as a except now it's
::the lone end and well we don't want that no right anyway yeah so that's I'm I mean I think you guys hell even having
::her get like hurt where she couldn't go on is better than him taking her out of these well she did get hurt
::him not doing it yeah having Phoenix you know heard her or something I mean it's still shitty but having her jump in
::front of a guy that's gonna take a swing at Stallone and get knocked in the head right crumbled to the ground and he
::takes well that guy that moves on that also would have accomplished okay so now you're gonna have this new Society where the cops are going to have to be a
::little more capable and now they would have been had gone through this Crucible right they would have been prepared for
::sure you not as clean you not as dirty kind of situation yeah and I guess I just like how do we know like the way it
::ends that the society is not going to end up right back or it wasn't 96. sure it's a power vacuum yeah I'm sure
::the cartels in Mexico are gonna sneak up and yeah take over all right well I
::think I I enjoyed it as a popcorn movie um but I kept wanting it to be more and
::I kept seeing well because then he walks on he'd never never mentions his
::daughter again like they're he's just gonna go on and got a living daughter I'm just not even gonna think about her
::again no you're gonna trade fluids with Huxley yeah exactly yes yeah a woman who
::is younger than his daughter I believe probably oh yeah something was funny and there's uh at one point uh Sandra
::Bullock has a line about how old he would have been like how old he looks for his age right you'd be 74 he's
::actually 76 like now yeah well that's what [ __ ] because she's 76 now in 23 and that was supposed to be 2036 so he was
::definitely like yeah she said something like not bad for a 72 year old or something you know yeah and Sherry was like well how old is we looked it up in
::the United States 76 yeah yeah but I mean your meeting wasn't even playing the age like John Spartan is much younger than than Saloon is you know
::yeah and what made me think of it was his hair is all white now yeah it's
::great yeah yeah and and that um well he said it on that first episode of the uh Family Stone he said I just got tired of
::dining under whatever yeah with Chino what are you saying me if Jesus you already saying I dye my
::hair yeah yeah all right I did notice that him and went from like you know no greater just
::gray yeah yeah I haven't watched that Stallone
::thing on Netflix have you seen any of it yet the food bar I have it yeah I haven't seen the documentary either I need one I
::think that's June 7th oh okay all right I'll be honest um some of these men
::when they reach a certain age uh like uh y'all know I love Tom Selleck okay but
::his hair was so dark there for a while and now he's gone salt and pepper and that's nice yeah I like the the gray in
::there because he's in his 70s I mean right yeah so running around like you
::used to yeah yeah embrace your age a little bit yeah yeah yeah no or never never never
::yeah it's not good you're not gonna call me into that good night somebody asked me did I frost my hair no that's the
::white coming out yeah we all have our things you know what
::happens I just happen to be so strikingly good looking all the time right with a little effort good jeans
::it's awesome yeah yeah they fit at least uh any other thoughts
::we got we got it covered yeah this Demolition Man is this one and this was my pick yeah because I love it I love
::this movie uh loved it since I was a little kid it came out when I was 10 years old saw it in the theater it was just
::one of those popcorn no and it's still enjoyable I mean I enjoyed it
::um but it just it may be under scrutiny it's not that you have to
::you have to know what you're getting and if you know what you're getting and and you're happy with that it's a I think it's a good movie you know it's not that
::kind of movie kid so right stop asking questions and enjoy it and yeah you know all right we ready for I think so all
::right yeah are we gonna go around and do this yeah that's what I'm saying oh yeah he's gonna hit them I'm gonna hit my
::button I'm like you know if we can speak are you ready for work sometimes we
::have a little bit of time between recording that you know we lose our sharpness or whatever we're
::gonna do the beat uh pass to consider record the next one will be even better
::[Music]
::all right James you want to kick us off this is your pick uh yeah I would definitely recommend it but that's
::obviously just because it's my movie and I enjoy it I thoroughly enjoy it it's
::quotable it's funny you laugh you you cry you pat your friends on the back at
::the end of it okay really no it's awesome it's just it's just a good movie I got
::it on all the platforms yeah I've got it on Amazon DVD Blu-ray right so it's you know it's good Wesley Snipes is a whole
::lot of fun in this yeah I think uh Dennis Rodman got his style based off
::Simon definitely there yeah you know just that yeah I read that I read that I assumed it was the other way around but
::yeah I read that and I'm glad I forgot to say that earlier yeah oh my God yeah I've been started dying his hair because
::of some Phoenix's you know blunt here really and then Simon Phoenix got the crazy eyes and the yeah the two color I
::thought was cool the clown pants they didn't come to my mind when I was watching yeah Dennis Rodman and then his uh you know his his Wesley Snipes
::performance and the the karate the fight scenes they were saying that he had to slow down so the camera could catch up
::obviously like Bruce Lee yeah uh yeah the key is very fun in this movie no no
::he's a very good um villain yeah to Stallone they're very well matched and that's the best part
::about good movies like that is the villain is every bit of as good as the protagonist is yeah it has to be almost
::more powerful than the protagonist the almost you know yeah make it definitely a challenge to overcome and then the
::kind of limits that cocktail put on Simon Phoenix of you can't kill me you can't do this you know the way that he
::created his team and overcame that like kill this guy and then Jesse The Body Ventura of course yeah he's the one that
::pulled that trigger but oh is that was that him yeah because I was like Jesse ventures in this where is he and then
::he's in there yeah and uh Jack block is in this for about four seconds and yeah we had to she already said she saw him I
::guess I wasn't paying attention at the time or whatever but I found the screenshot on and of course you've
::always got the rat Burger scene yes I thought Stallone's
::Taco Bell was awesome Taco Bell what the restaurant of wars or whatever
::yeah I saved your life and you want to take
::me to Taco Bell I'm not going to be in polite okay Taco Bell I guess I could use a burrito I thought his whole face
::and reaction his processing was that's one of my favorite scenes actually right yeah that rap Burger when it says rat
::Burger pretty good best burger I've had in years it quickly it quickly adapts to
::circumstances so yeah yeah it's just and then obviously the car chase with the 442 that is an awesome car show it was
::broken hard when they started shooting it up like no no oh my goodness yeah well anyway so lots of cool lots of cool
::bits but it's a recommend for me just because of the Nostalgia Factor um yeah no I should I think you should
::skip it for sure skip it like a total pass no it's like a a consider for me not a
::recommender to consider like yeah if you consider it if you like Stallone and you haven't seen it consider it if you like
::you know dystopian uh you know Sci-Fi movies right um yeah or even utopian I guess for that
::matter um yeah it's got too many I guess issues for me for me I guess I've decided that
::I'm gonna try to save my recommends for just stuff that's just you know I guess hits on all cylinders yeah as we talked
::about the beats are all over the place right yeah even though it was written you know before uh you know Blake Center's beats and all that stuff um so
::yeah I mean it's fun yeah popcorn movie fun movie yeah but yeah it's just to consider for me yeah I'm I am torn
::between consider and recommend because I enjoyed it and if I enjoy it why wouldn't I recommend it right and I
::think if you go in thinking you know disengage and and you know and and like
::if you were having a bad day and and just did not want to think and you wanted something that you knew you're
::going to have a good time watching this is going to be one of them yes you know and and so at that point I think it it
::serves its purpose so if you go in thinking this is going to be a lot of fun I recommend it uh if you find
::yourself starting ask questions about plot holes and character then you know maybe this isn't the movie for you and
::wait you know wait to see it or don't see it but uh it's not like you know
::Pulp Fiction is not literature this is not the cinema but it you're gonna have fun watching it and so it's it's either
::a strong consider or a recommended I'm I'm kind of leaning towards because it's a lot of fun you know if you have in in
::the movies and expectations I think the movie takes uh the right amount of care and basically telling you is the
::audience don't think too hard about this no I I think it's sensitive enough to know where those plot holes are and it
::and it puts a Band-Aid on him and says keep it and we're walking we're walking yeah exactly so yeah in that case I it
::wasn't unaware of where those weak points are because it did address them sometimes with the veneer of one line
::but it did so if you have those expectations I think you can have a lot of fun watching this into it so being intelligent enough
::to realize your story is flawed and well let's just cover it up with a line of
::dialogue as opposed to maybe you wrote the best story you can full of holes and you're just ignorant to those holes yeah
::that's that's worse or that's that's worse than having the and the I guess
::the the foresight and the intelligence to cover it up it's good if you can come up with a line of dialogue that kind of
::covers it up how about go a couple extra steps and [ __ ] fix your story man I I always would like sure we basically we
::wrote a lot of this movie and I thought I think I mean yeah I'm biased but I think it's better it would have been I
::came up with that sitting right here you know we pulled it out of our ass but we deviated three months darker sci-fi
::piece I didn't think about the company you know yeah we talked about her storm in the castle let's select their asses
::or whatever the problem is is this is a futuristic
::sci-fi type com there's gonna it's like a time travel movie I was watching uh Austin Powers the second one there's
::nothing wrong with the other day and you know he goes back in time and they basically look at the camera and go it's
::not that kind of movie just sit back and enjoy it yeah Demolition Man didn't go
::that hard maybe they should have maybe it'd be okay but it's basically it's like this is a movie about a dystopian
::utopian fight in the future it's not like don't yeah get your expectations up
::too much those lines like uh and and other places where they just
::sort of they are saying just keep moving you know I mean they literally are telling the audience yeah we know we're
::gonna move on because we got to get to the you know suspension of disbelief sure like yeah really like cartoon or
::cartoon jingle commercial Jingles yes or on the radio really yeah just keep moving right yeah it's almost a goofy
::farce kind of feeling uh it was almost farcical yeah so you
::know you can forgive it for that it just it does seem a little illogical but we're moving and we're moving you know
::so true and if I didn't have a good time watching it I probably would have been like uh you know you're right I had fun
::watching it which I have to reckon argue that either I mean yeah I enjoy enjoyed it and yeah laughed at the parts don't
::worry about this part there's an explosion coming yeah there's a funny line we're walking explosion yeah yeah
